  1. This. Of all the kick-in-the-nads moments that long-time Billiken fans are waaaay too familiar with, this one tops my list. The mere mention of his name causes me to reflexively curl into a defensive position and fight off waves of nausea. Damn.
  2. That would be me. I read - and am thoroughly entertained by - this board every day, but rarely post. As different as those first two posts were stylistically, they are both spot-on. It is an incredibly fun and fulfilling experience to be a part of. I know that Jim has been working his tail off for months securing food donations to keep all of us players going for 60+ hours. Kudos to him for the huge investment of time he's made. When he says that this is near and dear to him, he's not blowing smoke. I'm fairly certain that Jim and I are playing on the same squad again this year. If you do stop by and say hello, I would love to meet you.
  3. Man, I was so excited when Mia Sorella opened because it's close to where we live and we are huge fans of Trattoria Marcella. Alas, we were incredibly under-whelmed during our visit. I'll give it another try since it could have just been "one of those nights," but it was a major let-down. Now, the new Niche location in Clayton....Wow! Knee-buckling good. Hey Skip - let me know if you need any help on the food front for the baseball game.
  4. Skip has already won a national title. For those on this board who don't already know, "skip" is a nom de plume used by former Villanova coach Rollie Massimino.
  5. Again, every word posted by Skip was right on the money. You bond amazingly quickly with your teammates in conditions like this and the mix of personalities on our squad was just awesome. I could type a hundred different things right now that no one else on the planet would understand but would have the twelve residents of our dugout in tears. THAT will be the true lasting memory for me. As tired, sore, and brain-dead as I was by the end, I would have kept going just to have a few more hours with that particular group of guys. In addition to helping raise a lot of money for a tremendous cause, I had the priviledge of being behind the plate to catch Skip's inning of Goose Gossage-like relief work. Well done, my friend!
  6. I, too, am playing in this game and second every word that Jim wrote. Watching Chief Battelle (Executive Director of The BackStoppers) choke up while introducing the family of a slain officer and then hearing their words about what The BackStoppers has meant to their family was incredibly moving. This promises to be a fun and entertaining event for a tremendously worthy cause. If you can help out in any way, please do so. Thanks!
  7. It's been a few years since I've been there but I always found the food to be quite good.
  8. Completely agree. They certainly "let them play" last night. On one hand, that helps us because we don't have the depth to withstand a game where lots of guys get in some form of foul trouble. On the other hand, it hurts us because it allow the bigger/stronger team to push us around a bit. Based on what I've come to expect from these atrocious a-10 crews, there is no doubt in my mind that last night was as "good as it gets" from an officiating standpoint.
  9. No, but we were subjected to at least 17 "correction"s. I'm literally going to start tracking these as an official statistic at future home games.
  10. It was mentioned in the "Majerus Recap" thread that they were going to be hosting a recruit for a vist this week. Anybody know who that might be?
  11. I LOVE the glaring photo of Coach on the "cover."
  12. This has to be the first time in history that we've heard another school's fanbase (much less our own) be in awe of anything PR/media-related done by the SLU athletic dept.
  13. True. But why? What does the staff seemingly now know that we don't?
  14. Nashville - I agree completely. We have a shot, which in and of itself says a lot about how far we have come. That being said, given the quantity AND quality of programs after Suggs, our shot (and anyone else's for that matter) is still a longshot.
  15. >what will the MU morons say then???? > >http://www.tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-...message=4613457 > > >FIGHT ON! For the lunatic-fringe faction of Mizzou fans who try to convince the rest of the world that they consider SLU on the same level as UMSL or SEMO (i.e., they doth protest too much), the degree of absolute unbridled mass hysteria that will overcome them if that were to happen is utterly immeasurable!
  16. I, too, think that Josh is shaping up as a nice fit. With Thompson having some outside game and Reed being the athlietic, jumping-jack big, a good strong on-the-block player would be a great complement to have.
  17. Everyone is assuming that the Reed verbal is what you were hinting at. Is that it, or is there perhaps still more imminent good news awaiting us?
  18. > I sense some >growing frustration in tigerland. I think if SLU lands >Suggs, all hell will break loose. > You can say that again. You seem to be one of the many level-headed fans of both programs that actually do exist, in spite of what many on this board want to believe. However, the faction of Mizzou fans that are condescending toward SLU and are spending WAY too much time talking about how much Majerus' presence won't impact them will go absolutely APE**** if Suggs chooses the Bills.
  19. Yeah, what a novel concept. I generally don't think that the post is as horrible as a lot of people do, but THAT is one thing that REALLY pizzes me off on a consistent basis! It's almost as if they do it out of spite. Nice to see that an out-of-town paper can actually respect the wishes of the entity it is reporting on.
  20. Awesome. Those are the type of connections/relationships that can and will pay the most dividends.
  21. I think that particular topic was the Eckerle news.
  22. > Or >change the dot in Billikens dot com to a little billiken >head. That sounds pretty cool!
  23. It does look nice, but I agree that the actual Billiken would put it over the top.
  24. > Mizzou fans that think SLU’s hiring of Majerus >and SLU's new commitment to basketball won't mean anything >is wishful thinking on their part just like SLU fans >actually believing Mizzou is history is wishful thinking on >their part. Mizzou plays in one of the big six conferences, >has good TV exposure, they have very good facilities, have >decent history, and most importantly they finally have a >good coach. > >I’m happy with the current direction of both programs. Very well stated, MUTGR. This is a realistic and sensible take. I, like many SLU fans am irritated by the superior attitude of many Mizzou fans over the years. While I disagree, I understand the mentality of "screw-em." However, to cloak those feelings by declaring a mis-guided attitude of superiority towards the MU program right now is simply foolish in my opinion.
