It's a competitive world, just like someone on an academic scholarship has to keep his grades at a certain level to avoid losing his scholarship, someone on an athletic scholarship has to keep his skills at a certain level to retain his scholarship. I get sick of hearing about how these are just kids. Please then lets have a world where no 18 or 19 year old gets to vote, can have a full time job, get married, have a kid, join the military etc ...... Not only that .... here is the kicker. They are told when they sign up that it's a 1 year deal. What's so hard to understand? my wife's niece had an academic scholarship to Ariz St U. She had to maintain a 3.5 to keep it for her soph year. she pulled a 3.3 her frosh year. she lost her scholarship. life can be cruel but the niece understood the rules going in. The only major school and coach that I know of that allows you to keep your athletic scholarship for 4 years once in the program is joe paterno, assuming of course that you don't lose it because of academics or bad behavior. i'm sure there are others, but ever wonder how some football programs, especially in the south, sign 25 or 28 every year when the scholarship limit is 85?

SLU at the time Grawer was hired
Dungeon Yankee replied to BLIKNS's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Moving to the MCC allowed Coach Grawer to restore the SLU Basketball Program, which he did. Grawer saved the program when it was headed down. he was rather unceremoniously fired by debbie yow. spoon was a good hire, but grawer deserved better. he came in when nobody wanted the job and saved the program -
i heard he was going iowa state, unless there was a coaching change. but isn't mcdermott still the coach?

thanks. i wonder if buying the grandview apts is in the future for slu. they seem to have a greater demand for student housing than ever before -

please disregard -
1) we did not match up well against them. they had too much athleticism and quickness in the 2, 3, and 4 slots. we only matched up well with Mitchell, Reed and Remekun when he was in the game 2) because of problem #1, they were able to beat us to the basket for some easy shots, especially in the second half . 3) We need at least one more good ball handler. i held my breath everytime someone other than KM brought the ball up court against their press. 4) from what i've read about mccall and evans, they would have been able to match up well against vcu 5) we got worn down in the secondhalf. as the half progressed, you could see the game slipping away 6) give vcu credit, i can see how they won 26? games. they had some guys coming off the bench who were as athletic and talented as the starters

who is clyburn?

just my opinion, but reed shoots his foul shots too high, too high of an arc. if he put a more natural arc (lower) on the ball. he would be more successful. with his high arc, the ball has to be shot perfectly for it to have any chance of going in. so a softer shot with a more natural (lower) arc would increase his percentages. he is too tall to be shooting with such a hi arc.

they are impressive. hope the students and the public continue to support them like they did last saturday

not only did the psu players love the environment, so did their assistant coach. I spoke to her yesterday, as well as someone from the slu volleyball department, and encouraged them to continue the series. Being both a slu and psu aum, I would love to see this series become an annual thing. Time will tell. secondly, you did an outstanding job chris. you brought a lot of excitement to the arena. my wife, a slu alum, loved it also and we intend to attend more slu wvlb games in the future.

congrats to the slu and psu women's volleyball teams for quite a show last night. the atmosphere was electric and the first set was probably the most exciting i have ever seen. i am a slu and psu alum and my wife is a slu alum. we go to both psu and slu sporting events, and i am a big fan of both schools and have been for a long time. i hope that the 2 schools continue their series in volleyball. if you didn't attend last night's match, you missed something special. Thanks to the ladies of slu for their great effort.

that may be true. but from my vantage point, the defender was overplaying KM to KM's right. i thnk we will see more of that to try to neutralize his explosiveness.

had the same feeling walking up toward the laclede garage. some of the students were even singing the billiken fight song and chanting s-a-i-n-t- l-o-u-i-s. don't ever remember that sort of thing before. an on campus stadium/arena can do wonderful things for student/fan enthusiasm.

a couple of more observations 1) mitchell is quick as lightning. however if you overplay him to his right, you can neutralize some of that speed. he has to learn to be just as explosive to his left. also he gets careless with the ball at times 2) cassity has the potential to be a great shooter. he seemed tenuous at times when he had an open shot 3) cotto looked awful. i'm sure he is bertter than that. i got the impression he had the first game jitters 4) reed should play more. his presence on defense will be awesome. and he is as good as the rest of the bigs on offense 5) thompson has a lot of work to do, but I think he will be fine with time
