I don't know if Porter needs the leverage really. He has a job with a healthy contract already and isn't in danger of being fired this cycle. He apparently has some sort of potential offer at DePaul as well. SLU is a much better job than DePaul in basically every category except conference affiliation. But DePaul is at 'home' for the family.

Porter was choice #1 around these parts too, but the word on the street is that his wife wants to move back home.

I agree. Opponents and referees should see Chaifetz Arena on their schedules and immediately say “fuok.” Fans can change the outcome of games. Whether it’s bullying the refs into home calls, getting behind the home team, or getting into the head of an opponent - it’s all worth something.

No, they didn't. The 18 season they went 9-9 in conference for a mid-pack finish. The 19 season they finished bottom 4 in conference with a few key injuries. Here is the kicker. Those two years the minutes were dominated by freshmen and sophomores. The core of that group went on to be 24-7 in 2020 and projected as an 11 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Mooney is definitely a 'floor' guy. His program will never totally bottom out like a Travis Ford program. But floor guys get fired because fans get apathetic after a bunch of mid level finishes.

The amounts some of these guys got this year is astonishingly terrible scouting. Thats on the coaching staff for blowing donors NIL money.

I'm having a hard time finding 10 better jobs outside of Big Ten, SEC, Big East, ACC, Big 12. SLU pays better than every school in the Mountain West currently. SLU pays better (by double) than every MVC job. I am doing this quick so might miss a couple. Gonzaga is an easy #1. St Mary's has a solid track record, but Bennett is making a lot less than Ford there. Memphis in the AAC might be better. Nothing else in the AAC really comes close to SLU - maybe Wichita before the one Koch brother died. In the A10, Dayton or VCU might be viewed as better jobs. No one else is close. No one in the MVC is close. That is 5?

Mack should have always, and may have always been, candidate #1 on any list. The guy has a winning record in 9 NCAA tournament appearances. He's coached very successfully at a very similar institution. Ford should have been canned by now and Mack should have been named head coach by now if this program had any semblance of leadership. The only "negative" I can see with Mack is that he doesn't have a rebuild on his resume. He came into a successful program that had been in the Elite 8 the year prior, but under his assistant-ship.

With boosters like that, who needs enemies! Talk about small time thinking.

In fairness to Crean, he won 2 Big Ten championships there and went to 3 S16s. He's done better there than anyone not named Robert Knight. He still wouldn't be a good fit for what SLU needs now.
