  1. I would go to watch a crappy team with Yuri on it- he was one of the most entertaining basketball players I've ever seen.  Going to watch  this team doesn't even cross my mind at this point- I'm completely checked out.  I'd much rather watch paint dry.  I'm only checking the board hoping we fired Ford today- no luck so far.

  2. All I'm saying is the next time a Larry Hughes/ Jayson Tatum level recruit comes along that we have a we're not taking no for an answer amount of money set aside for it.  Would it be a one year joy ride- probably,  but it would certainly be fun.  St. Louis is a big enough basketball hotbed that you're going to get that player once a decade at least.

  3. I think  we might all be looking at nil the wrong way- that is we need to play the long game instead of gnashing our teeth year to year.  The Billiken victory fund, or whatever the hell it is called, should be saving and investing it's money so that the next time a real superstar player emerges from St. Louis we have the money to pay him and fill in around him.  That's the best chance we have to make our mark on the national scene.  Sort of a Houston Astros  approach as compared to a Cardinals approach. We might need to live in the desert for awhile and experience pain as a fan base- lord knows we've done it before.

Not that it’s any of your business, but I would imagine I spent the first 18 years of my life at a level similar to Yuri Collins. I was also not gifted his natural athletic ability.

Hey, maybe I was a bit flippant with my prior post, and your circumstances are none of my business, but I can't remember any billiken great that has suffered more slings and arrows on this board than Yuri.  Has he made some bad decisions- I'm sure he has, but for pure entertainment value he wildly exceeded my expectations. He just happened to play for us at a time when college basketball became the wild west, and I can't blame him for trying to squeeze every penny out of his talents.

This will be unpopular and frowned upon but like I’m done with this Yuri insanity. He’s completely scuffed his Billiken legacy. The numbers are great and all but he d*cked around the program last spring essentially holding it hostage for NIL money allowing this B*g G*ard d0ucher to be his business manager, or so it appears. He withdraws from the portal as if he never planned on exploring other options, BS. He comes back, and can’t lead this team to the tournament(you wanna blame Ford too, fine but we played our best game at GW without Yuri. Mid season his “manager” goes after Rich Chaifetz on Twitter saying that they haven’t paid him the NIL that was promised, which is a complete lie. This behavior continued throughout the season with BG continuously saying SLU was shorting Yuri on $$. Then he enters the draft saying he wouldn’t want to wear any other jersey in college, now he’s apparently going to enter the portal again, and wear another jersey. Numbers are great, he’s a great passer, incredibly fun to watch. But man I have trouble believing anything the dude says. Players asked to be paid, asked for NIL, well now you get the criticism for acting a fool. When you were just on scholarship, fine you don’t get the heavy criticism. However you start bringing cash into the equation, now you’re a full blown adult pro worthy of whatever scrutiny comes your way.

You can criticize him all you want- that's part of his job description, but did you grow up dirt poor?  It might affect your decision-making a little bit.

The band is an institution at SLU.

Why Pestello and May are ruining it is beyond me.

@Band Legend do you have any insight into the group of band members who performed and competed against Ekkers scab band during games in the late 70s early 80s?

Too early for me- I graduated in 1986, and played at games from 1984 to 1990 approximately.  I can't stress enough that we started out with what was really a pretty top notch jazz band with a bunch of people who either became professional musicians or could have if they wanted to live that lifestyle.  We also had a great time; there was a trap case we rolled in that was filled with cold beer- something tells me you couldn't get away with that these days.  The Kiel auditorium was an awesome place to play and watch basketball as I'm sure all of the Olds on this board will agree.
