As @almaman alluded to, these guys may be the most "famous" (or infamous) of the Jett era players and may make the most money (McBroom anyways, I'm not sure how much Grady pulls in showing off his hole).  However, I do not consider being a YouTube star who exploits his child for clicks nor a guy showing off his hole on OnlyFans to be "successful".  Those are certainly careers you can choose today and perhaps those guys are doing the best they can.  Good for them I guess.

Mitchell, Ellis, Evans, McCall, Loe, etc. all have successful overseas basketball careers.  Mike Crawford has his law degree and a prestigious job as a lawyer at big firm.  Jake Barnett has a wonderful family with 3(?) kids.  Any of those guys are more successful in my book.

Couldn't agree more.  I hate that success is assumed to be how much coin you have.  I wouldn't say I'm 'jealous' of McBroom, but sure it'd be nice to have his money.  He might be 'famous', but I'm proud of the successes of your above-mentioned alums of the program.

Indiana Farmers Coliseum (State Fairgrounds; IUPUI's home court) - 6,800

@HoosierPaland others have mentioned before that Indiana has some of the largest HS gyms in the country. I think most are outside of the Indy area, but I'm guessing a few are within or close to the metro.

With limited or no fans, this is definitely doable.

Not to mention, If the NBA finals can take place on the same courts I played intramural volleyball on, they'd be willing to play NCAA Tournament games in high school gyms.  Great research Pistol.

Coach was on with Frank and Rammer on the Press Box this morning:  https://590thefan.com/radio-shows/press-box/

They had an intraquad scrimmage on Monday, FG 42%, 3pt 29%, (won't say what the FT% was-I assume it was bad).  French is nailing FT's in practice, but it isn't translating over to the last scrimmage.  He has a new routine.  He hit 3 of 4 in the second of three intrasquad, but the other two intrasquads, "nowhere near that".

Starting lineup so far is Collins, French, Perkins and Goodwin.  The other spot has been Jimerson one day and Thatch the next.  Coach doesn't care who the 5th starter is.  He is rotating starters every practice.  In the last scrimmage Monday, he started moving into his top 8 or 9.  Mentioned Linssen in for French, Hargrove in for Perkins, Jordan to point and Jacobs in for Collins.  Bell is still out, expecting him back in a week to 10 days.  Coach said he won't go back to starting Bell along with French just yet.  Bell will be w a y back when he gets back.  He will have to get into shape to get into the rotation and flow.

Coach "Depth is only an advantage if there is not much of a drop off."  "We have a lot of guys that can play, but we have to get them playing better."   "Goodwin and French have been off the charts in practice.  We need consistency from our depth, that we aren't getting at this time."

Trend of going smaller - started in the NBA and is trickling down to college.  "There is no such thing as a true power forward anymore."  Bottom line, it's becoming a position-less game.  We are really one of the smaller teams, in height.  French is really only 6'6".   We make for it with our toughness and physicality.  Colleges are going away from 'you are a one, a two'.  College kids don't want to hear that anymore.  They are making up position names to conform, "You are the Rocket".

Hargrove, "I talked to him, all I need him to do is fly up and down the court, get rebounds, deflections, don't worry about what position you are playing, just make things happen on the court."

Coach, "It looks like Northern Iowa is our first opponent in Nebraska."  Hope to get three games in NE.  Schedule still changes almost daily.  Hope the first home game is Dec 5.  Four to five home games in Dec, still under flux.  Minnesota may be the only true away game, closer to Christmas.

    Great recap HP. Thanks.

-what was the highest ranking in this SLU has had? I thought 75 or so, I don't like to see the other schools passing us, especially other Catholic and Jesuit institutions

-BAB, what is going on at Santa Clara? they get a boatload of tech money?

I thought we had been in the 50s or 60s at one point.  In the 1990s, I watched the SLU recruitment video in my guidance counselors office in Chicago (Featuring Bob Costas), and I could've sworn he mentioned a higher ranking and my counselor being surprised SLU was that high.  I could be wrong.  Wouldn't be the first time.  But IT WILL be the last.

Agreed this was one of the most dissapointing losses. However, just wanted to clarify that wasn't exactly how the gane ended. We never tied the game, and Polk and Lisch both missed 3s to tie it (Lisch wouldve sent it into OT at the buzzer). Morrison hat a huge second half, but there was no buzzer beater.

Thanks for the clarification NH.  I guess my memory isn't what it once was.  For some reason, in my head I remember the dirty stache draining a deep three right by the sidelines; must've been an end of the shotclock heave or something earlier in the game.  Still ticked about that one.

And agreed Box and Won.  That Arizona ending was tough.

If i remember correctly, that was the same weekend SLU soccer got ousted in overtime by Maryland with a trip to the Elite 8 on the line.  Something about Hutton kicking the ball right to the defender who had an open net for the winner.  Think it was the only goal of the game too.  That was a bad weekend.

***Edit*** - The Hutton giveaway was the year before.

The day after Bryant's toe-shot, Maryland beat SLU 4-2 to go to the final four.  Even worse.

I got that on deck to convert. I’ve had the game on DVD for quite awhile but was having tech difficulties for the last couple months that wouldn’t allow me to rip the game. Now with this hardware I can make it happen.  Just did Iowa and I need to edit the commercials out. I’m also working on a little special addition to the replay of both those games.

Awesome!  That will cure my quarantine blues for quite a while.

I am now fully capable of converting them to digital. If you have a VHS game recording I’m happy to put them on DVDs for you or put them in he Vault on Youtube

I would pay if someone has the 2003 upset of #2 Louisville. (I know I sound like a broken record with that game.)  Saw it in person, and have never seen the replay.

  8. I've been trying to find the Louisville game from ~Feb, 2003 forever.  Lived it, loved it, and have been dying to watch the TV broadcast of it.  I rode back to Humphreys from Kiel on top of my friends GMC Jimmy after that win.

is it one continuous story, or like Fargo different story per season?

So far halfway into season 2, it's one continuous story.  I believe all 4 are about the same group.

Most mystery/heist shows feature unrealistic plot lines; but these justify them pretty well.  It seems pretty realistic thus far.

there is no reason/scenario i can think of that makes sense for obi to go back to dayton for his junior year.   take the money and run obi.   has anyone been college player of the year multiple times?   alcindor?  walton?  oscar?   i dont know. but one has to believe obi's value will never be higher.

    Archie Griffin.  Oh wait...😀

  11. Army, previously the only team in the nation worse than us shooting free throws, went 13-14 from the stripe the other night.  Go figure.

That now puts us dead last, and by a decent margin.  We need to weather these injuries, and hope not to drop another game because of our inability to connect from the line.  Here's hoping we can fine tune things.  At large still alive.

  12. Willie Reed was released from Olympiacos for 'disciplinary reasons' after only 11 games.  Really curious to see where he ends up next.

To this day, I always think about what could've been with him.  Passing up on that ~$15M contract is something I can't even fathom.

    Also, check out the Uni.

You are right.......the good news is that our FT shooting has improved  recently...60.4% (last 3 games) vs 53.5% (overall)....we were down around 50%...so while I can't see the F yet....we are are at least battling Winthrop (53.9%) for spot 352.

I'm curious why you don't include Mississippi Valley St (and 353 teams for that matter)?  Not a criticism; just curious if there is a reason they are not considered.

I'm been bragging to my friends that we're NOT last.

-Hasahn French is now the program's all-time blocked shots leader, with 148 and counting. The junior record for blocks would only be 4th on the sophomore list, so I expect him to shatter the junior record (55, Ian Vouyoukas) this season. 73 (Willie Reed's sophomore year) remains the all-time all-class record, and anything above 44 gets him in the all-class top 10, where he owns the 3rd and 5th place marks. He currently has 23, just 2 shy of the junior top 10. He will likely tie or bump Dwayne Evans in the next game and climb the list rapidly. His 7 blocks against Belmont are tied for the second most in a single game (Kelvin Henderson had 8 against Siena in 1979 and Willie Reed had 7 against Dayton in 2009), and his 5 against Seton Hall are also among the 19 times in SLU history that a player has registered 5 or more blocks in a game. He has 83 rebounds and needs 244 to reach the top 10; his 10.4 RPG would put him 7th all-time among juniors. He is currently tied with Goodwin in both rebounding statistics this season, so they're chasing those marks together.

Also of note, French and Goodwin are both top 20 in the nation in rebounding.  Collins top 30 in assists.

When is the last time (if ever) we had two players in the top 20 nationally in rebounding?...and one is a guard.

    As always, great posts Pistol.
