  1. I hope you can replay the "Barry Brown" feature to start half time. The kid had 4 points. They sold him as a freshman savior of the team. He did make a steal or two but nothing Davel Roby couldn't do as a freshman. I have never seen SLU or its announcers "sell" our program hard like this. Just think if you have history of introducing newcomers on TV broadcast games how many recruits would notice?

  3. Thanks for spellings
  4. Romar was the luckiest hands off let them play coach we ever had. The year we won the tournament I said only chance we have is if Cincy starting five get knocked out on opening jump ball. Instead Kenyon Martin breaks leg and we ran the table. This year only lacks drama of Grawer and Winfield playing their kids instead of the more naturally talented kids on the team. For sure if we don't win another game this season Crews will end up an athletic director in Junior High school if he has to work again.
  5. Is there a feeling that they have moved further away from Crews in games? Tanner seems less active and Cheaney seems to work one on one with bigger players meaning other than guards. My hope is that they keep trying.
  6. My concern is that RA and more so AY will play up and not melt when there are tall fast men on them. I loved Douglas and Gray tandem of years ago but Monroe who was a leaper but not a giant would melt down in fierce competition and anihilate the weak. I often thought he was the most talent freshman outside of Hughes but he played the same all 4 years that freshman talent did not take him higher with more experience. Austin Mc Broom had talent but too short and slow to play in the A10. My hope is that once we get into league players we have 5-8 players who can rise to the occasion
  7. This game we are going to need everyone to play up. Let us hope BJ gets in the flow of the game
  8. Had two names garbled knew something was wrong. Getting on here directly from Saturday afternoon, rainy day nap is only partially effective. My point referred to Marquis Perry. Although both would be welcome additions to any Billikem team. Junior year- a good player but explosive and team leader his senior year. It would be great if the guards on this team gave us that old confidence we had over the years where we felt on our offensive turn we could score every time- it was just a matter of shooting percentages. Right now we seem to still be a little tentative.
  9. Exactly, "as much as I was not for hiring him I hope for the best" Last season did that to us: I like scoring more points. I know 70 vs 58 that makes recruiting easier: however, if this is motion offense I just don't see the Majerus style bump and run or is that football? I think MR has the best speed on the floor since Marquis Jeffers Sp? MJ had the best senior year of any Billiken in the sense that prior to that it seemed no one gave him permission to be great
  10. Mostly I did not see him or his team win games that were not givens and especially in league he seemed out coached at then end of many games. He just may be an odd duck. Who knows? I hated the fact that he was good with Evansville years ago when we struggled on the floor in spite of having a bigger school and larger teams. I think the North Florida game he was most prepared. Instead of looking at his notes to remind him what he wanted to do he actually was writing stuff done to say later. He appears to have a barking attitude toward some players like ML where they won't come court side and others seem to be working on their own games with assistant coach CC The North Florida game gives me hope for Crews and this team as I think it was his or their best win in his history. Can you think of a better game?
  11. Bash is good name for it; it was a high school all star shoot out style with plays and passes to bigs something they will save for games. This did not look like a team with three weeks of practice and three games under their belt. The good news despite running off Lancona and McBroom we did not lose Tanner or Calvert on the coaching staff.
  12. For lower expenses and/ or because we have played these teams in the past: I would like to see on the schedule Illinois Bradley Minnesota De Paul Xavier New Mexico New Mexico State Air Force Purdue W. Kentucky Drake Creighton San Francisco Bowling Green Ball State Boise State South Dakota you can add to the list
  13. Spoon had an aura that reached the Saint Louis market and beyond and used pretty much the same style x and o as Grawer and usually competed very well against our somewhat favored teams. Many of us really benefitted from what Grawer was able to do with local recruiting and re creating a fan base; but there was no downside to the Spoon hire in the face of Grawer/Winfield melt down in their final season. The cupboard may have been closer to bare when Shaka opted for Texas and he was probably a good judge of what he faced the next few years. He was pretty much the program. But even the loss of Diamonte Weber brought him down a rung. Even a big name coach would be considered a let down after Shaka Smart. The real question will be: will Texas start competiting in the BIG 8-12?
  14. in my opinion Romar could recruit but pretty much let the team play and they won some games they should not have. Recruiting less important if you have a Kwamain point guard or a team enforcer like Conklin or ball thief like Bonner or Jet-someone has to instill the permission to win. Over the years we have seen some well regarded recruits never get that permission and that leaves everyone flat
  15. TL has talent but the little he was used; here is why he won't be missed. He was buried on depth chart; the team would have slowed down considerably with Crawford and Gillman and Lancona. When Lancona was in he brought control and pace of game that was not the running game we seemed to be aimed at to start the season. Not a situation of playing down to his level at all. Ash, Roby, MY had to be the nucleus and they were almost out of control-you could not build two cores with different speeds. I was a fan of TL not of AM because AM was not able to get his shot off against the A-10
  16. If Crews had a plan that AM and TL did not have what it takes it was certainly different than the treatment Majerus gave Relphord and Knollmeyer; he worked their butts off to give them a fighting chance before running them off. Majerus knew the fit problem was his- same with the big kid from So Illinois that left for Lindenwood (grade rumors aside) but he did put them in position to fail or succeed not get bench sores. Crews may be ok if we stop comparing him to the ghost of RM-
  17. Jolly did play a lot for a freshman big. I had forgot about his falling away shots that added a surprise by going in. I think we have a coach who teaches the bigs to retreat instead of rebound. Maybe if we get a board banger that will change the nature of this team. For freshman some did well. I hope Crews and company can win with sophomores.
  18. Since we lost Alex Jensen I have never felt we had someome really great to help the Bigs. We have at least two coming next year. I did feel Gillman improved, as did Roby, Yarborough, Crawford and even Miles Reynolds toward the very end. Cheaney seemed to work with Agbeko and Yarborough almost exclusively. Will Cheaney stay? It would be nice to bring in a new Bigs coach like maybe Justin Tatum. Majerus had the best assistants SLU had ever seen. Some of the current ones seem like U of Indiana croanies-we are not Indiana. I hope we get a player that can work the Alley Oop and a coach that can coach postioning for rebounding-we were weak
  19. We need guards that can handle: the best feeder on the team was TL and Crews and company couldn't figure out to use him. McBroom was shut down against better competition the kid should have stayed at his first choice Central Michigan he would have made more money playing in Europe averaging 15-20 points a game. TL won't be missed all bean counters know actions that are not allowed never get accumulated-in my book Crews through this kid under the bus for the sake of giving all freshman a shot at playing time. The fans got to watch a changing scenery of unproven kids struggle against coached teams that played to win. I can't remember ever seeing a team that I wished the season was over half way through. Crews did a very poor job. You could see certain coaches sidelined themselves looking unaffiliated during time outs.
  20. Jolly could leave but Reynolds has the best speed on the team-small and skinny but time will take care of that> The things wrong with Jolly's game are pretty much Manning year 1 and 2
  21. this year we could not catch a break, a cold, a basketball. early on I thought the new coaches would coach these young men up in a hurry. grandly glaze was certainly missed because he had no quit in him. however, if gg was with us would agbeko have had two, three four chances to get out of the doghouse? cheaney may have landed yarbrough; however, if he leaves will he take him with him? yarbrough wanted to bond with yacoubou. did anyone else show signs of wanting to play with his teammates? my take on this season compared to the majerus ball we were used to: steals down, assists down, passing down, play making down, defense down, scoring down, rebounding down, setting picks down, shooting behind a pick down, ball control down, inbound plays down, substitutions down, time outs down, selection of starters best suited to play against opponents down, getting team ready to play down, half time adjustments down, fan appreciation down, results down, scheduling down. did i leave something out? if there was a surprisingly good thing that happened i think i missed it. not wow, not woah, just woe.
  22. Claggett was that good as a freshman he "sat" behind Julian Winfield and Grawer's son as the grand experiment failed as Winfield could not protect the ball and barely dribbled and apparently was promised the point guard spot.
  23. There is no reason for any freshman to leave they all got more chances than they would have elsewhere
  24. I am surprised no one thought we should hire a former SLU player that now coaches high school. Grawer and Winfield had their sons play
  25. This year was handled badly. Without Tanner Bronson Crews was dysfunctional. If Cheaney is not the new head coach I worry he would take ML with him TL and AM were not handled correctly for the talent they showed last year. The guards were not taught how to pass to the Bigs this exacerbated the not so good hands of Manning and Agbeko. It is possible to throw quickly without knocking someone over. TL can see the court and pass from high post possession as well as AG maybe better due to upper body strength. AM is a shooting guard. MC is a shooting guard. AY got tons of minutes and has a very low field goal percentage considering it was mostly lay ups. The team lacked leadership on the court and on the bench. AM and TL could have provided a lot of that.
