  1. If Crews had a plan that AM and TL did not have what it takes it was certainly different than the treatment Majerus gave Relphord and Knollmeyer; he worked their butts off to give them a fighting chance before running them off. Majerus knew the fit problem was his- same with the big kid from So Illinois that left for Lindenwood (grade rumors aside) but he did put them in position to fail or succeed not get bench sores. Crews may be ok if we stop comparing him to the ghost of RM-
  2. Jolly did play a lot for a freshman big. I had forgot about his falling away shots that added a surprise by going in. I think we have a coach who teaches the bigs to retreat instead of rebound. Maybe if we get a board banger that will change the nature of this team. For freshman some did well. I hope Crews and company can win with sophomores.
  3. Since we lost Alex Jensen I have never felt we had someome really great to help the Bigs. We have at least two coming next year. I did feel Gillman improved, as did Roby, Yarborough, Crawford and even Miles Reynolds toward the very end. Cheaney seemed to work with Agbeko and Yarborough almost exclusively. Will Cheaney stay? It would be nice to bring in a new Bigs coach like maybe Justin Tatum. Majerus had the best assistants SLU had ever seen. Some of the current ones seem like U of Indiana croanies-we are not Indiana. I hope we get a player that can work the Alley Oop and a coach that can coach postioning for rebounding-we were weak
  4. We need guards that can handle: the best feeder on the team was TL and Crews and company couldn't figure out to use him. McBroom was shut down against better competition the kid should have stayed at his first choice Central Michigan he would have made more money playing in Europe averaging 15-20 points a game. TL won't be missed all bean counters know actions that are not allowed never get accumulated-in my book Crews through this kid under the bus for the sake of giving all freshman a shot at playing time. The fans got to watch a changing scenery of unproven kids struggle against coached teams that played to win. I can't remember ever seeing a team that I wished the season was over half way through. Crews did a very poor job. You could see certain coaches sidelined themselves looking unaffiliated during time outs.
  5. Jolly could leave but Reynolds has the best speed on the team-small and skinny but time will take care of that> The things wrong with Jolly's game are pretty much Manning year 1 and 2
  6. this year we could not catch a break, a cold, a basketball. early on I thought the new coaches would coach these young men up in a hurry. grandly glaze was certainly missed because he had no quit in him. however, if gg was with us would agbeko have had two, three four chances to get out of the doghouse? cheaney may have landed yarbrough; however, if he leaves will he take him with him? yarbrough wanted to bond with yacoubou. did anyone else show signs of wanting to play with his teammates? my take on this season compared to the majerus ball we were used to: steals down, assists down, passing down, play making down, defense down, scoring down, rebounding down, setting picks down, shooting behind a pick down, ball control down, inbound plays down, substitutions down, time outs down, selection of starters best suited to play against opponents down, getting team ready to play down, half time adjustments down, fan appreciation down, results down, scheduling down. did i leave something out? if there was a surprisingly good thing that happened i think i missed it. not wow, not woah, just woe.
  7. Claggett was that good as a freshman he "sat" behind Julian Winfield and Grawer's son as the grand experiment failed as Winfield could not protect the ball and barely dribbled and apparently was promised the point guard spot.
  8. There is no reason for any freshman to leave they all got more chances than they would have elsewhere
  9. I am surprised no one thought we should hire a former SLU player that now coaches high school. Grawer and Winfield had their sons play
  10. This year was handled badly. Without Tanner Bronson Crews was dysfunctional. If Cheaney is not the new head coach I worry he would take ML with him TL and AM were not handled correctly for the talent they showed last year. The guards were not taught how to pass to the Bigs this exacerbated the not so good hands of Manning and Agbeko. It is possible to throw quickly without knocking someone over. TL can see the court and pass from high post possession as well as AG maybe better due to upper body strength. AM is a shooting guard. MC is a shooting guard. AY got tons of minutes and has a very low field goal percentage considering it was mostly lay ups. The team lacked leadership on the court and on the bench. AM and TL could have provided a lot of that.
  11. Crews has lost this team. He did not build on the athletic ability and speed of this team. It will be surprising if they all stay. The team has guards that make bad passes and can't dribble and can't see the floor to pass. Davel Roby was the 2 guard without a jump shot in high school. His point guard and center had 50 percent of the teams opportunities. Roby is a keeper. We have two tall recruits coming in. We need guards Crews ignored the two players who helped last year when our players were tired from the long season. TL and AM were the only players with experience who could lead the team.. Doghouse or broken spirits they were the only ones who new the system. Crawford kept trying and got better but Crews took the ball out of his hands early in the season. The team needed speed and Reynolds sat for 20 games. Bartley can shoot but the coaches never taught him high school cross court passes do not work and they also could not teach him how to run the motion offense and see opportunities and he picks up his dribble but Crews loves this skinny guard be cause he is tall. John Manning and TL, Jolly, AG, RA all set picks at beginning of season-some better but few picks were set or used as this season progressed. Crews appears to keep written notes during the game as if he can't Remember what he should do or what is important after the game Crews never developed a feeling in this team that players could trust each other or have plays. The in bound play lack of players on free throw line are just ridiculous for this team. His rotations have been predictable to the minute He looks like the coaches like Cheaney talk to Tanner Bronson while Crews and his old coaching buddy take turns belittling and yelling at players. Everyone in stands could see SLU was collapsing and giving 44 a free look from the sideline repeatedly. Davel Roby had two steal attempts but looked like he tried to get taken out for a breather more than once. The pregame shoot around second half was lack luster. There has been very little coaching up under Crews. Porter and Whitesell may not have been the answer but I don't buy Majerus bringing in Crews because he expected to die. I think Majerus tried to save coaches who had lost their jobs. Crews lost the last two head coaching jobs he had. Let's see if we can hire Jensen as head coach. Cheaney would be better than Crews but I doubt after a year under Crews he is ready to be a head coach.
  12. If you recall Brad liked to always have one to three available just in case a miracle would happen
  13. Best speed and separation at guard. Change my starters to MR, RA, MY, DR, and AG for the tip off. Anyone but Jolly on tip off. I like AY, too. Going small I give him a lot of minutes. I can't use AG for more than 10 each half and I would give RA ten each half and TL 7 or 8 each half. I have given up on JM for the season except at tip off. He is our best chance at tip off. I thought everyone but Jolly, Manning and MB had decent games today. Take that back Crawford was weak today.
  14. Crews will put you in his dog house the MCB and your five picks
  15. What brought it to mind is TL and AG actually look optimistic about having the ball passed back to them. After seeing Manning and others pass with no pick set afterwards they seem to hurry to disappear. Our ball awareness after those two and MC an AMcB drops off sharply. Ever wonder why McB and Crawford get rebounds despite being short they look for the ball. They don't turn and run away. I am disappointed with all of our coaches-this performance reflects on them
  16. Coach Grawer mistrusted talent because of Kevin Footes- who wants a 6-8 guy who blocks shots, catches the block, dribbles full length of the court and dunks the ball-that is not the way the game is meant to be played. I do remember Shabazz he was quick but would have been better off red shirting for all the time he got. Did he play somewhere after leaving the Bills?
  17. Bob Huggins should have adopted those at Cincy or at least when he was at Manhattan Kansas (K-state just minutes to the west of the Leavenworth pen)
  18. I am concerned that Crews can remember the few times Majerus denied scoring on fast breaks by sending rebounders down court instead of letting them take the traditional places at the line. Further he can't remember how ardently Majerus taught the pick and roll so shooters were shielded from defenders this is a key to the motion offense. But most of all I have a hard time thinking Bobby Knight (Crews coach and boss for 14 years) did not have an inbound pass from end, side, and under basket situations. To take time out before MB crossed time line only to inbound more deeply on the same path and seemingly not have a shooter freed up by setting a pick just frightens me that Crews can't remember and Tanner Bronson's real job is to remind Crews what the game plan might be. We have a bright young man prompting a man with 35 years of D1 ball and they have no inbound plan. There I have said what we have all been to shocked to say. They have a game plan and rigidly play it out and better coaches adjust during the game-we seem to have no second half plans and we don't know how to use our time outs to adjust to what is happening
  19. Fordham was a lights out hot team against us. We need 20 points from an unexpected source. I would rather have 5 guys with 12 points but we need a kick of enthusiasm. The Te team seems to be playing to avoid the whip or being benched. Maybe an in bound play from sidelines that worked or a shot behind a screen that falls 4 or five times in one game. Could MB shoot over Gilman, Manning or Jolly?
  20. When we play defense we are better but even with a 12 man rotation these players play as if they were exhausted on offense. You would think they would be pumped to make 2-4 points instead sometimes our bigs look like they are guarding their opponents when we are trying to score. I thought it was about getting separation.
  21. Oh and I would like to see Crews calm down: he is like biserk and rabid all game long. If we are teaching they have to feel he is over reacting.
  22. I would like to see the following people shoot more: I would like to see the following people rebound more: I would like to see the following people steal the ball more: I would like to see the following people bring the ball up: I would like to see the following people look for the ball instead of running head down:
