I just find this legitimately baffling.

He would never be on my all-Billiken team either; (Marquee Perry and KM take the cake at the PG slot hands down, no question, MUCH better individual scorers and stone cold killers late game)

He was much better than the kind of PG play we are seeing this year.

I still blame the "Ford Weave" for our offensive ills. I legitimately think slufanskip's school kids can run a more complicated offense than the Bills do.

Agree.  I would add that Yuri was doing 100% what CTF asked him to do.  Why else would CTF dub Yuri "the best PG in the nation" multiple times.

Muted the TV announcers before the under 16 media timeout, might be a record.  They were talking about excuses we have cause of injuries

The national broadcasters assume that SLU fans don't want to hear we have a bad team, so they talk up the injuries to try to keep it positive.

His contract is just that - sunk money.  If someone is not willing to accept that then the matter is closed - stick with him until the contract runs out.  My use of sunk money is not simply a business school term but a business practice.  Companies do it all the time - abandon a previous plan/direction without regard for what has been already spent because not to do so simply means you will continue to dump money into a situation that is not productive.  Anybody who thinks you are going to get out of this mess without spending more money simply doesn't have a realistic view.  When you screw up you always will be penalized for it monetarily.  You can strategize all you want and trying to lessen the financial impact is smart but you aren't going to do it without more money being spent.

    Yep.

Time is money. Surely revenues are dwindling with all the ticket give-aways and less "spur-of-the-moment" ticket sales.

What if Lindenwood MBB makes an unbelievable coaching hire and leapfrogs the Billikens in local relevance?  On second thought, if that happens it will at least spur some major actions at SLU.  Competition is good.

  4. SLU's MBB preview for tomorrow's game says this in red below:

    • This is SLU's 19th season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Billikens have a 163-136 mark in A-10 regular-season games. SLU has won two A-10 regular-season crowns (2013 and 2014) and two A-10 tournament titles (2013 and 2019). SLU head coach Travis Ford is 98-69 in A-10 regular-season games – 31-17 in three years at UMass (2005-08) and 67-52 in eight years at SLU (2016-24).

Why would any Billiken fan care what his record was 15+ years ago in the A10 while coaching UMass?  That record is totally irrelevant to me.

Majerus did it. How can we forget Gary.

The problem with CTF doing it, who would bother tuning in.

I kinda remember a "Gary" would call almost every show but I have forgotten the details. What was the story...strange questions?

I believe it's actually a little higher than that.

I bet SLU's power boosters know the amount of our NIL pot.  Whether the boosters deem the NIL pot sufficient or not for the team to succeed will affect their support for AD May and CTF after this season.   Certainly facilities and coaching/staff salaries are more than sufficient for success.

if they ran curls and used the oncomingdefenders as self screens, or faked a hand off and went to the basket.   hey might be a play.  but they dont.   more times than not 4 or 5 handoffs then they set up a half court offense.  imo it is worthless waste of time.

The weave can be effective against a man defense but I agree we rarely use any of the options presented by the weave.  it's strange.

We still played last game without two starters. When they come back, there might be more watchable basketball on the way. A starting lineup of Brad, TJ, Parker, Gibby and Meadows WITH a bench of Dalger, Bruce, Cian, LH and Thames figures to be a lot more watchable. Gotta get healthy. Thames is the one player who I think is potentially a pretty exciting X-factor. He shows some flashes of being a dynamic role player, unfortunately he often seems hobbled.

Although Cian had a strong game and LHJ is healing, we still need Meadows back because it is a long season and PG's can wear out.

Agree that Ezewiro scoring inside is a good thing.  A player knowing the plays so the whole team is on the same page is also a good thing.  There is no conflict here.

Brad is explosive off the floor, even more so than TJ or Thames. I saw him make at least 1 mid-range jumper as well.  I'm looking forward to seeing his growth this year, and hopefully next year as well.

The foul was not planned.  Everyone was walking around with their hands on their head like they couldn't believe it including Gibby.  Ford was stunned.  I agree that the foul worked out because it stopped the clock which turned out to be essential.  What I wondered was why La Tech did not miss the second shot.  That would have created a situation where we would have had to get the rebound and then it would have been a bit helter skelter and getting a shot off would have been more difficult.  If we did not get the rebound then we would have had to foul again.  More valuable time off the clock and a chance for them to go up by 3.

agree it wasn't planned but kinda glad it happened!   you can't dream these things up.  Glad we made the trek to the game because I've never seen anything like it.

Foul. If the shooter makes both. A 2 point basket ties,  a 3 wins. If shooter makes 1, a 2 wins. If he misses the second shot, must get rebound and up the floor in 5 sec.

What were the odds of them scoring in 5 sec. We had Ez and Dalger out.

Then there is the specifics on the odds of winning in overtime. We were at home. On the other hand Ez and Dalger had fouled out and they had everyone, including  their bigs.

i said the same thing right when the foul was called.   It seemed almost certain L Tech would get at least 1 point in a 6 second possession.   The foul wasn't textbook procedure but it sure worked out.

I'm not advocating for a free-for-all. My point is simply that the NCAA is reaping what it sowed.

In a free market economy, the NCAA had rules in place preventing people from earning their market value. That created a relatively small black market that grew and grew over time until it was obvious to most people that the NCAA's system had no justification behind it. So the market opened and it's chaotic, and it didn't have to be that way because the NCAA could've shaped a fairer system all along and chose not to in order to enrich itself and its member programs. That's the NIL side.

On the transfer side, it's another case of the NCAA being unable to get out of its own way, and It's another case of having rules with no legal or ethical justification behind them. Instead of having a clear system that could actually serve its student-athletes well, it's an opaque case-by-case system that infuriates fans and screws over players.

Zac and I for quite a while now have been advocating for very clear transfer rules:

    1. Everyone gets one free transfer at any time for any reason.
    2. When a coach leaves, you get a waiver for immediate eligibility at a new school.
    3. If your school changes conferences or divisions or shuts down your sport, you you get a waiver for immediate eligibility at a new school.
    4. The grad transfer rule stays in place.
    5. Waivers may be granted on an individual case basis for extraordinary circumstances, such as personal safety or termination of an academic program.
    6. As always, eligibility is subject to meeting admission requirements and ongoing academic standards at your institution.

These guidelines are simple, clear, and would eliminate the free-for-all that is the current transfer market. Players would really have to be thoughtful about their next steps, knowing that they can't move around every year.

on #2, do you mean Head Coach or any coach (a la Forte)?

#5 "personal safety" could get arbitrary but agree there needs to be some outlet for extraordinary circumstances. it's just hard to define.
