  1. We sucked in 2001 because our coach was terrible.
  2. If you want to eat somewhere downtown there is an area called "5 points". In 5 points there are some restaurants you might want to check out. Pregame--Mellow Mushroom (great pizza, sub sandwiches, etc) Postgame--Surin West (upscale Asian restaurant) Jim & Nick's 11th Ave Grill (popular among celebrities in town, not expensive...great atmosphere and food) The 5 points area is down University Blvd pass the medical schools. It's very easy to find. If you want good shopping then I recommend the Summit or The Galleria. The Summitt also has very nice restaurants and upscale shopping. The Lakeview District is further down University Blvd and also has some very nice restaurants. Let me know if you need more help w/ directions or anything else.
  3. The keys to you beating them this week will be to stop Curtis Withers and contain Brown and Plavich. Plavich is the most one-dimensional player in CUSA and probably in the nation. 99% of his shots are 3pters and right now he has been shooting poorly. 20% of the 3pters that he made came in the Syracuse game and then I think he had another night with 8 made. He doesn't rebound, doesn't pass, and doesn't play great defense. All you have to do is stick a body on him at all times and force him to take bad shots, which he will, because he rarely sees a shot he doesn't like. D. Brown is almost one-dimensional but he brings more to the table than just scoring. Curtis Withers is a monster and will destroy you if your big men are not up for the challenge. Had it not been for his huge game, we would've blown Charlotte out...BIG TIME. If your coach is smart and has a good game plan you guys will stand a good chance at winning. Your team has played well lately while Charlotte has not, probably because they are "buying into" all the hype that Gay Jay Bilas is feeding them about them being a "lock" for the NCAA tourney. Good luck until Saturday.
  4. that's an understatement for us. We are the biggest underachievers this season. I am VERY disappointed in how we have played. We have the talent but our players are playing stupid and inconsistent. It's tough work being a UAB fan this year.
  5. SMU doesn't join CUSA for another two years but USM is currently in CUSA. I don't see them having any chance.
  6. They are too cocky and arrogant. I also think that they are overrated.
  7. I was able to get a room earlier this year when UAB played Memphis in football. It was close to everything, including Beale St, and I think I only spent $60.00.
  8. Wow, Mizzou knows how to waste talent. Maybe they should stop giving slots to their big donor's kids.
  9. After listening to Memphis fans complain about their attendance this season it shouldn't be too hard to get tickets. My fiancee bought me tix to the UAB vs Memphis game for Christmas..bought them 2 weeks ago.
  10. Your Blu Crew should be moved behind or much closer to the opposing bench. At UAB, the loud students are caddy-corner to the opposing bench. It's always fun to make fun of the bench riders, the guy in street clothes, and the coaching staff that can't dress. Waterboys are easy targets too but the best target is when a player gets taken out of the game and comes back to the bench mad. Last year after our NIT win, La-La's PG Brad Boyd tried to come into the student section to fight us. It was pretty funny. On a side note, La-La is a bunch of thugs.
  11. They should just blame everything on the Kroenke kid. Tell the authorities that he paid for everything the team needed out of his pocket. That wouldn't be illegal, would it?
  12. We too lost a close game today against a VERY good team after holding a good lead for the majority of the game. I'm too ill to talk about what happened in the final 3 minutes of our games vs Miss St in their house but I'm sure you guys might be able to figure it out. Saw most of the game today. You really gave UA a run for their money and turned a lot of heads. That shot at the end was awesome, but it turned out to be like football, a game of inches. Answer this...would it be harder to swallow the loss if you didn't have a good lead for most of the game? If we (UAB) would've been trailing the whole game and lost it wouldn't feel so bad. We got outscored in a 3 minute stretch (should've been a 2 min 30 sec stretch) and lost the game.
  13. UAB plays Miss St on Saturday and it is being televised on the Fox Sports Net/Sunshine channel. Since it is a regional channel it will not be picked up here in St. Louis on my Charter cable. Does anybody know if any local sports bars can pick up games that aren't regionally televised and not on a pay-per view package, such as this weekend's UAB game? Thanks for any info you may have. Sorry to hear about tonight's loss. Opening road games are the toughest ones.
  14. Yeah, you are right. I don't know why I thought that. Maybe it's because he missed on the intentional foul. Did Diener graduate?
  15. I decided to go to the game. Here's a couple thoughts from an unbiased POV: 1. I like the concessions at the Savvis Center but don't like the pro prices 2. Your announcer is pretty funny 3. The students in the Blue Crew should swap w/ the band so they are next to the opposing team. It's hard to heckle from across the court but if they are right next to them they can do a better job of pissing off the opposing team. 4. It's cold in that freakin' place. Maybe hockey has something to do with it. 5. Your team looked flat as would be expected for any team playing their first regular season game. 6. Dredjaj needs to shoot more. That kid can really handle the ball and his quickness is amazing for how big he is. 7. Too many passes on the perimeter. Not many jumpers shot tonight. 8. Your guys have got to do a better job of defending the 3pt. There are guys in CUSA that can really shoot the 3pter and will hurt you if you let them. 9. You have a big lineup. I was impressed with a white guy..think he had a dunk, hit the first shot of the game. He was pretty agile for his size. Frericks looked pretty good..wonder why he left UAB. 10. Sloan is a workhorse. His free throw shooting could use some work but he was very aggressive in going to the basket. Good game, way to hold on to the lead and not let down. I look forward to our game in January. Good luck the rest of the way.
  16. It looks like I'll be attending your game tonight. Need to do some scouting for our game in January. [http://uabganggreen.com/images/index_08.gif]
  17. Are there are free parking lots near the arena within a reasonable walking distance or do you have to pay for parking? I'm thinking about coming to the game tonight but I hate paying for parking everywhere I go in this city. Thanks.
  18. Wow, we really blew it this year. I'm no soccer fan but I support UAB sports overall. Sucks that we didn't get in but obviously we didn't deserve it. I did see in one final poll that we were ranked #25. Oh well.
  19. how did we not get in? There are 40 something teams in the tourney and if UAB was ranked in top 25 logic says they should be in. Can any soccer guru's explain this crap to me?
  20. I can't believe your team stomped us so bad in those 2 games. Sucks that we had 3 starters out on Friday but you probably would've won anyway. Good luck in the tourney. We look forward to our BB matchup in January. Can't decide if I'm going to go down for the game or just watch it on TV up here.
  21. Geez..this is the worst we'll have gotten beat this season. That sucks.
  22. You must have misunderstood where I'm coming from. I'm a UAB grad now living in St. Louis. I can't find the freakin' score anywhere so I thought you guys might have it. I'm assuming we (UAB) beat Louisville tonight..???
  23. We beat Louisville? That's great if it's true.
  24. Thanks for the compliments on our team. We do have a VERY talented team this year. We finally came together as a team at the end of last year and started winning ball games and playing the style of basketball that Coach Anderson wants to play. All of our returning players have one more year of experience under their belt and our new recruits are AMAZING...especially The Taylor Twins. Those guys can flat out play some basketball! I feel that UAB will have a top 5 team in CUSA but there are a lot of good teams this year. Charlotte improved on paper from last year, Marquette still has very good players, Cincy is always good, Memphis lost a top recruit to the NBA BUT they still have an awesome roster, Louisville has a strong crew, you guys were VERY tough for us to beat in the CUSA tourney, etc. There's so much parity in the league these days. There won't be a clear cut best in the league until the end. Good luck this season!
