now that the real good bowl games are upon us I want everyone to check out tthe Sugar Bowl on Tuesday night. The University of Hawaii will open some eyes on the mainland. I hope they bring the mascot to New Orleans. He is Vili, the warrior, and is a show in itself. I met him at the Coconut Festival in Kapaa in October. He was very entertaining even without a game.

I hope for my sake that RM brings the Billikens out here to play the Dons & St. Mary's Gaels some year and a lot of posters come watch so Bay Area Billiken & I can meet you all now that Coach Sutton has taken over at USF. I'm sure they are very well aquainted. According to Jake Curtis' article in todays SF Chronicle: "More than the (800 win) milestone, Sutton said he is returning because he enjoys coaching basketball. " I love teaching youngsters the game " he said". Does that sound familiar?

You guys missed my point. Ike was no angel, just a great pioneer that helped start a new kind of fun for us younguns, that was called Rock & Roll. My running buddy from the 50's reminded me of the name of the place with the fence, the Club Imperial, a North St. Louis institution. Anyone else old enough to remember? Go see Check Barry while you still can. Then you can tell your grandkids about it someday. Peace and Love

I will remember one of the pioneers of R&R in St. Louis and the world from the time I went to a nightclub in North SL that I don't recall the name of and saw the Kings of Rhythm. The place had a wooden picket fence down the middle of the room. Booze was served on one side, I was in the kiddie side and watched in awe as Tina rocked while about 8 months pregnant and Ike stayed in the background until his guitar solo. What a great place back in the late 50's, I'm sure could not happen today. I hope everyone attending the opening concert at Chafetz has a good time. Except for the too loud very annoying commercials, I liked listening to RM online. I remember his comment that he wanted his ACs to teach the team zone defense, because this team needs it & he doesn't know much about it. So he is not strictly pounding round pegs in square holes like I have read repeatedly. He does run off topic, but they are interesting quips like "I may be from Milwaukee, but if you don't like Bud Lite there is something wrong with you"

I can hear the interview as I type this....My brother saw RM at the JC shootout at Meramec JC yesterday. Call and ask him if he wants anyone from there?

At least 2 great coaches I remember were on that team. DC Wilcott was very successful at CBC and Hank Raymonds coached at SLU and then up at Marquette with RM! There were probably others, but I don't know about them. Anyone else?

Your boss is as old as me. One of my SLUH teammates went to BC and played for the Cooz. I remember seeing the Big O at that game. He was the best I ever saw.

Please do not compare any other of the remaining 49 states, with the possible exception of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with Indiana's passion for the game. I have traveled extensively in my 44 years since leaving SL and know of what I speak. I remember back in 1961 when my teammate on the SLU frosh invited me to his hometown of Evansville to watch the semi-state weekend. I was astounded at the 4 teams I saw play, any would have easily won the MO Class L (then the large school division) state championship. I know this because my alma mater SLUH beat Bill Bradley's Crystal City team a few days later, and I was there. Everyone knows the Hoosier story, it could only happen in one place, Butler Field House.

The A Bomb has detonated. If you SL fans miss the autumn experience, do what I did when I was a SLU student. Head west on Friday night 120 miles, party till 2AM. Rise & Shine and head to Farout Field and you'll get that big time experience. Get home on Sunday in time to get a good nights sleep before class on Monday. The Tigers have been fun this year. And you have SLU soccer to get excited about when they are on the road beating everyone except OU.

Correct about Love Tarheel. He hurt his back and couldn't play the first half of his junior year. It was a big disapointment to him & his family since Spoon brought the Bills out to play USF on their way to Hawaii for a holiday tournament and he couldn't play in front of friends & family. His Dad made many trips to see him play and was often shown in his hard hat cheering the Billikens. His Dad told me he loved the SLU experience even though Justin did not get to play with Larry Legend like he thought would happen. He also played for Coach Romar instead of Spoon his senior year. The moral of the story is be flexible and go with the flow in life.

A Bomb, next time you are in Las Vegas check out the Atomic Testing Museum. If you plan ahead, you can even go on a guided group tour out at the site. The pinheads at the museum are fun to talk to though and they have a cool gift shop.

Nate, good reports on both games. Keep it up all season long for us out of towners. It sounds like a new era began tonight at SLU and I'm looking forward to a great season for both the women & men. Keep the free reports coming too.

Well said Taj. I am of the opinion that I want to see the kid play. I liked his game a lot and he has the potential to play after college somewhere. I am looking forward to seeing the Zags at their best and the rest of the WCC give them all they can handle this year. I saw where ESPN's college guru Gottlieb said he thought the PAC 10 was the best conference in the country this year. I can't wait for all the games to start, especially if I get to see the Bills on TV a few more times.

Wrong Jimbo! Not always, although you are mostly correct about the size and attitude of victims. I remember the story when I was a student at SLU (early 60's) that a bunch of guys jumped Bob Nordman on Grand Ave. by the Fox. If you remember, Bevo was at least 6'10" and 250 and he wasn't seriously hurt. Probably more suprised it ever happened to him. Times have changed and now it's bullets, not fists flying. The area around the SLU campus is much safer now than when I was there.

I wonder what the board's reaction would have been to the new ticket plan if no coaching change would have been made?

that is really unbelievable!! It will be very interesting to see if things change at SLU this year. I can see SLU becoming as big time as Marquette is in Milwaukee. Even bigger, since there is no pro team there, or other D-1 team, once RM gets his show going.
