I think the transfer market boils down simply to this.
P5 schools lose way more players they don't want than players they want.
Non P5 schools lose way more players they want than players they don't want.
I agree overall it is a 1.25-1.5 advantage for the P5 vs a 5X advantage but these schools already have some many built in advantages. It's one more thing that makes the playing field completely untenable.
The game is rigged for the P5. Still, the riff raff finds a way occasionally to beat the house. In 23 we had two mids in the final 4. It can happen, and when it does the P5’s hire away the coaches and pay some of their players. So the underlings are basically feeder systems for players and coaches to the biggies. SLU did it this year.

He’s a walking emergency room, but he keeps on coming back. Got to like that. He’s obviously a talent, and Schertz will have to evaluate how he might fit. Schertz obviously values team chemistry above all else, so we’ll have to trust his evaluation. If Ford were still the HC and he was a possible, we’d likely be all for it. But things have changed. He doesn’t sound like a Love or a Gordon type which is a plus. All we can say now is in Schertz we trust.

Love doesn’t seem to fit in Schertz’s model. Travis, yes. Schertz, no!

Dayton's lineup right now is Malachi Smith returning from injury, Javon Bennett, Enoch Cheeks, Posh Alexander, Nate Santos, Isaac Jack, and Zed Key. The first four are point guards and only Cheeks goes over six feet. Long way to go in the Gem City.
Holmes does nothing for me. He has little game outside five feet so it's always dunks and putbacks. Sure, he took and made more three pointers this year but he had to do that to offer proof to the NBA he had more. He does not. Obi Toppin had a better exterior game and he's been a mediocre first rounder since drafted. DaRon is going to trade the Step van Bussels and Rocus Jocuis' of the A10 for Karl Anthony Townes, the Joker, Rudy Gobert, and Anthony Davis. Sorry --- I don't think so.
Holmes has been the best of the A10 for two or three years but that isn't saying much given the dearth of comparable big men in the conference.
Obi’s had a resurrection of sorts at Indy. If Holmes does return I’d see UD as the A10 fave. VCU seems to be hurt by the portal so far. Davidson has made some moves, but who knows. Can you, who studies the A10, give us your thoughts as to who appears to have benefited the most when all the dust settles?

Too many ifs in here. Let's get there first, then we can go ahead and fantasize about the future. All you get doing this is massive disappointment when we do fine or OK but not quite as well as you hoped.
IF Is a conditional word. IF doesn’t happen then we’re back where we started. But if, IF does happen then we’d better have learned from our past mistakes.

If Schertz delivers the success we all want the Beast may become a real possibility, I’d see a renegotiation in his future if that were to happen. If we do land in the Beast, why would he want to leave unless some P5 makes an offer we just can’t/won’t match? I’m talking something north of $5mm. And unless I’m mistaken, there aren’t a lot of college hoops coaches making more than $5mm. There are FB coaches that make more than that but even then not all that many.
There’s a lot at stake here for SLU, and I think the school has learned from its past mistakes. For those who may think getting in the Beast is not a big deal just imagine the crowds that would come when you’ve got schools like UConn, Marquette, X, et al coming to the Fetz every season. I think we’d make sure Coach Schertz is kept very happy and comfortable at SLU. -

Seems to be working for us this year. Watch out for next year and beyond though.
Success breeds success. If the Bills were to make it to the second week, I believe NIL $$’s will be there.

Bradley Ezewiro goes to UAB. Stef Van Bussel and Djordje Curcic both end up at Charleston.
I’ll have to take in a few CofC games to catch Curcic and VanB. I wonder if they would have stayed at SLU if Schertz had kept Harriman.

We need to replace Julian Larry - PG. Dotzler will be in the mix, but I hope/expect we will land an experienced PG with one of the three remaining spots. I think the combo of Anya/AJ will be at least equal to Kent- who was nothing special until last year. Conwell is better all around than Gibby, but we’ll be fine there.
I expect Schertz will have a deeper roster, the question that remains is will his starting 5 be as good as last year? Our starting 5 last year or ISU’s? Wouldn’t take much to be better than ours.

So in effect we plug in Gibby for Cornwell and Anya for Kent to recreate the ISU success story. Add with Swope and SLUAlcindor what piece are we missing. Is it Dotzler or Junior? If I were Thames, Junior, and Dotzler I’d be in the gym every day with that shot recording machine shooting 300-500 3’s a day. We should terrorize the A10. And there I go again getting carried away again. But you can’t deny Schertz is building his kind of roster. Who in the A10 is gonna matchup with bigs like Avila and Anya? Still worried a little about D but in Schertz I trust. Best I can figure out starting 4 puts up almost 60 ppg on average. Not many teams can say that. I welcome WIZ’s analysis of our latest addition.

Well, if our compliance dept is squared away I would think they’d tell Gibby you gotta take some courses. Suggestions: Pop Culture 101, Taylor Swift Music Appreciation, Pottery 101. Pilot Training at Parks. Plenty of ways to fill up his hours away from the Gym.

Only one mid listed. Yep, Zaga. I’m not sure what Houston is but they were numero uno. We got listed at #5 below the line, so ESPN predicts we are in top 30. Other below the line mid was San Diego St. I’m not going to get overly excited, yet, it’s heartening to see us listed after the last two seasons train wrecks. The hangover in 22-23 lingers. After all we SLU. But let’s go with the positive. Schertz has had an impact and am looking forward to Oct.
One question; where did Caleb Love transfer to? AZ was listed in the top 25 but he was not listed as a starter. Curious is all. I don’t want him. Chemistry killer.
