  1. Interesting take by Claiborne on KFNS this afternoon-while gently chiding Irons for taking his team off the floor his real purpose seemed to be correcting those who appear (to Mike) to be jumping on Floyd for his actions (and of course Billiken Bob was supportive of Claiborne's take). Mike and Bob---This is a serious offense by a coach compounded by the fact that it is the second time for Floyd. Irons probably thought he could do this since he got away with it the first time with the MO State Highschool people letting his team play the next game in the state tourney.
  2. Great get Brad and staff. If we can retain TL in next years class along with Lisch we will have as good of guard talent as I can ever remember at SLU. Looks like Brad is going to turn us into Guard U. If he can only come up with 2 real good 6' 7"-6' 10" players for next year (05 recruiting class) we will really have a team! In any case it is nice to have some real offensive weapons to go with Reggie next year so all the pressure to score isn't on one player.
  3. I would hope from what I've read that AA is well above John Redden in talent. John was a nice walk-on who defended better than average but, had minimal offensive ability and certainly could not be considered a leaper or a great athlete. I'm hoping to see more of a Monroe Douglass type player with (hopefully) better ball handling skills.
  4. You can be sure that when I do send in a check that I will write it not RIGHT it. Thanks for your suggestion.
  5. You are the one that is so naive to have said that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Can you really be so stupid as to believe that? Can you really believe that Sadam's regime has no connections to other Muslim terrorists outside of Iraq? It is scary that people as uninformed as you and NYBILL are probably old enough to vote!
  6. Like other replies, I haven't been contacted and I plan on making a significant contribution to the project, BUT NOBODY KNOWS THAT BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T ASKED ME. This seems like a strange way to run a railroad-talk about having trouble raising funds without having asked most people to contribute!!!
  7. You need to read Flags of our Fathers and The Greatest Generation, two somewhat recent bestsellers, to learn what made this country what it is today. If Americans had the self-indulgent bent of today's generation we would probably be saluting a different flag today. The truly bad individuals and groups in the world today are counting on America going the way of the recent Spanish election and the appeasement approach of England in the pre-WWII era both of whom's motto is, "When the going gets tough, we cut and run". Thank God for strong leaders in both political parties who have the guts to make the tough decisions needed to keep this country strong and great! God Bless America.
  8. After reading all your posts in this thread hopefully all reasonable and responsible people will agree that you are a VERY SICK INDIVIDUAL who deserves to be represented by Mrs. Clinton. Please find a NY basketball team to follow.
  9. Broy, no way that IV guards a quick player next year. He has no foot speed at all-in all of Brad's 2 lengths of the court wind sprints during practice, IV finishes a poor last unless BH is in his group in which case BH is even further back of the pack.
  10. I noticed that point being slipped in by the Post-I would NOT assume that it is w/o foundation. If TL has to go JUCO, it turns areally, really good recruiting class into a just better than average class, if that. TL is the jewel of the class and w/o him it is hard to see much improvement next year unless we are able to get a real stud with the 4th scholarship and/or we are able to use TL's sch. to get a similar quality player. That is too many ifs for me-losing TL for 2 years would be a real downer.
  11. In response to ur ?, NO. I know that is hard to believe for a kid 7' 1". Neither he nor IV eat anyone up in practice. Who does BH compare to? I would say Rich Niemann, who turned out to be a decent player for the Bills in the mid-60s. The only problem is, opposing centers are much more athletic now-Rich was able to get away with a lack of jumps because he was not facing athletic 6'9" and above opponents 40 years ago.
  12. I believe that they did an awful job for the CBS number 1 team. Another example of Packer's bias was when he talked about the SJ player hitting or holding a Wake player and the ref only seeing the WF player respond thereby getting the foul. A replay clearly showed that the SJ player did NOT get away with anything, there was simply a foul on the WF guy--but neither BP or JN had the guts to correct Packer's obvious mistake. Also, I thought it was interesting that Packer prematurely gave the game to SJ at about the 5 minute mark just as WF was beginning to start a run. SJ deserved better-a couple of impartial announcers, but CBS screwed it up.
  13. You gotta believe that the NIT folks are not happy-surely they wanted Marquette and ND in MSG.
  14. ...and then Matt would drop the ball or have it knocked out of his hands. Sorry, but my memories of Baniak are that he was a tremendous waste of God-given talent-absolutely no fire in the belly. On the positive side, he was a very nice young man and an excellent student.
  15. I agree that quality recruits is more important than local recruits, BUT I believe the point is that quality LOCAL recruits is the best of all worlds. The incoming class reminds me of the two highpoint era of the last 20 or so years, 1) the MD, RG and AB time period, and the SH, EC and HW years. (I know H was from Vegas) Both of these periods were characterized by good records, lots of local media interest and excitement in the local fan base. The constant in those two eras and next years class potential is -- Very Good Local Players. Everything feeds off the other, good players (local), good media and good attendance with lots of noise at the games. As an example, KFNS spent a lot of time talking positively about the Bills and their potential on todays shows and always mentioned the three local recruits in the discussions. Also, we got a lot of good press in local newspaper articles about Vashon, ESL and Borgia. The future looks bright, lets hope we can repeat the excitement of those 2 earlier timeframes!
  16. Just like real estate-location, location, location. His family and friends can watch him play at SLU, while ILL is quite a drive. Seems like the family is very close so lets hope that wins out.
  17. ---IV needs to contain the damage down low by the Irish's big 5 man. If there is any opponent IV should be able to play against it should be a bulky, non-athletic like Timmermann. ---Reggie needs to show up, not just on offense but, just as importantly with ND having two superior scoring guards, on "D". I have noticed the last few games that he is mailing it in on defense-that has to stop tonight or JF and AD will be dragging in the 2nd half if they are forced to defend Thomas and Quinn the whole game. RB has to contribute on defense. ---IO needs to play like he did in the CUSA tourney, NOT like he did against IOWA. ---Chris needs to find his shot, it's been MIA lately much like RB's. ---All-in-all a tall order, especially in front of a hostile crowd which makes this, in effect, a road game. We can win but most of the above will have to occur (unless the Irish have a flat tire).
  18. I TIVOed Ch5' interview and Watched Ch 4' done by Tiger Tim. Even though Frank did the Ch 5 interview, the job done on Ch 4 was much more informative including Brad's comments about the current record and if it was a surprise to him. All in all, Steve Savard's Sunday night show continues to far surpass the new Ch 5 show with Rene and Frank tripping over each other with the added bonus of not having to listen to the Racist Twins, DJ and smilin' Tuna.
  19. The NCAA takes over a venue during events like these and would not allow the NIT to crash their party.
  20. Billikan, a couple of points. You pulled two words out of my post and treat it like I'm nuts. Did you disagree with anything else? Also, I didn't say SLU doesn't get respect as you say in your last sentence. At least don't misquote me, please. With regard to your nitpicking point about UM getting more respect than SLU, I was referring to over the last 10-15 year period not just this year!!! Agreed, UM has their troubles this year, but over the most recent past decade or two, if you can't agree that UM gets more respect from the national media and sports fans, then we shouldn't even be holding this exchange. It's not even close. That's the task Brad has is front of him and I think he is up to it.
  21. In spite of my lack of confidence in IV's abilities, we have to count on him to step up against ND's Timmermann-we don't have anyone else to matchup sizewise. This is a chance for IV to show his supporters that they know what they are talking about. ND is much more physical than us so Brad, work your magic!
  22. I have to agree w/ you on this point. Folks, let's not be so sensitive or critical of good press just because of this "little engine" stuff. We ARE the "little engine", but that's not the end of the world, just reality. Based on many really good years, State U is a bigger and better program-I don't like that fact but it is a fact. They recruit big-time players nationally, and we don't (yet). They draw better than us, especially with their students and they get more exposure and respect nationally than us. Hopefully all that will change with the job BS is doing, but it will take time. Let's enjoy the transformation into a major program that the next few years will bring us!
  23. We need to stop making excuses for our student body. Their support of this team is PATHETIC and is hard for me to understand. When I attended SLU few students lived on campus, yet student turnout was MUCH better than now and the teams were not this good. Students back in the 60s-the 80s actually had to go home and drive back down to Kiel-we didn't have buses to shuttle us from door-to-door. What in the world is wrong with the current student body? And don't tell me it is just a different era, Students at other schools, even other city schools like Marquette, flock to the games. Does anybody have an answer to this problem?
