  1. AD is plain and simple a gym rat who plays the kind of blue collar ball that his HC likes. He will be a favorite on this website for his determination, strong defensive play, and just plain ovearll hustle. If he adds good numbers on offense then this Bills fan will like him even more.
  2. I also consider Jesse Leonard an all time favorite. It would be nice to see his son play for the Billikens.
  3. I think Phillip will really have to earn his money this year directing this circus especially when you add two more ego's into the mix in the Glove and Mailman. He will have to earn the millions Buss pays him if the Lakers are to win it this year.
  4. I count myself as one of the folks that isn't counting too heavily on any significant contributions from RV this season.
  5. STLBlazer, There for a bit, I was wondering if your UAB football team would pull one of the upsets of the season last Saturday against the GA Bull Dogs. I suppose the Dawgs were just looking towards the matchup with the FL Gators this Saturday, in what is billed as the worlds largest cocktail party. By the way, welcome to the Billiken basketball board. I was very impressed with the run your team made at the CUSA Tourney. Good luck to you against everyone but our Bills.
  6. I was thinking the same thing after reading the posts from our new poster.
  7. For me, there really won't be much to worry about as far as the remnants of CUSA once we have departed. Never have had much interest in Memphis unless it was in beating them. I think it will be interesting to see if we continue playing both MU and DePaul.
  8. There are Cinderella teams every year in the Big Dance, but you'll get no argument from me that RPI isn't a perfect measuring stick. However, it is a major influence on selection Sunday, and does favor the power conferences.
  9. Imagine that Dayton who got left at the altar by SLU, MU and De Paul in our corner for expansion. I guess it was a good thing that we kept playing them so they were not too p!issed.
  10. Do you write articles on the Bills games that you attend. If so, can we read them on the WWW? If not, the why don't you post them so us out of town fans can read another slant from Stu's.
  11. Actually, you are right and wrong on some of your takes. I'd agree that Ekker was a horrible HC at SLU. You are right about that game with Mizzou at the Arena being a barn burner. Mizzou was lucky to come out of with a win as Burns did have a nice game. My memory was that both he and Kelvin Henderson got into foul trouble and Bob Mueller had the Billiken game of his career. You are wrong in that Mizzou had agreed to a home and home so we lose a heart stopper in OT at the Arena to the Stipo-Sunvold led Mizzou 77-75 in '79-'80, and then lose to Mizzou at Columbia in the return game the following year 76-58. After that we did not play them until Snyder came along. IMHO Ol Storman Norman was a complete jerk, and I knew many players who played for him and were starters who confirmed my belief. Not at all surprised at your story about him stiffing SLU at the luncheon. He hated SLU.
  12. Yep, practice begins at 12:15 AM, and it is about time to find out all about the 2003-04 Billikens. Stu had an article about it that said less than we already knew from the Tipoff meeting. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...+early+workouts
  13. Like several have said before, the A-10 is the best but not perfect option for us to call home for awhile...not saying we have to get too comfortable as the cards in the Big (L)East may tumble sooner rather than later. Just find that situation pretty tenuous too.
  14. BRoy, I see several suspects in your list that in my mind have probably played their final Cardinal game...Vina, Stephenson, Bombko, and I would be surprised to see Tino back...have not gone by his house recently in Safety Harbor to see if he is packing up his Cardinal Red? Albert will get his money and heck, if anyone on that team should get the big bucks it will be AP. JD is an enigma to me, but I don't feel that he fully recovered from the surgery he had last year. Remember, he had basically the same injury that made Big Mac decide to retire. If we trade that guy look for him to have a break out year somewhere else. Farm systems go in cycles, and not many teams hit the jackpot by playing nothing but young players. The Marlins did mix in some good veterans in order to win the pennant. Anyone like their chances in the playoffs with Pudge's Large contribution. Besides in TLR the Cards have a Mgr that really does not like to play too many youngsters. AP only got to play because Bonilla was hurt.
  15. Actually, I wouldn't wish going back to the Ron Ekker days on anyone including Triangle & Too. The Bills had horrible teams and you could count the number of people going to the games at the old Kiel. My wife used to comment on how stupid we were for being one of the few. I guess back in those days I could almost relate to being a Flubs fan.
  16. Vaguely remember something stupid like that...was that before or after he decided he liked the female cheer leaders over his wife?
  17. Pretty soon they will be all wrapped up in probation!!!
  18. No, Hank Raymonds was Al McGuire's top Asst. and took over as MU HC when Al retired after winning the NCAA Tourney.
  19. The funny thing is that with their history...I'd give even odds that Alou doesn't make that catch with the fan getting out of his way. The goofy thing was that there were many fans not just the one nerd that were trying to catch the damn ball, as you say amazing stuff, but that's Flubs baseball. I'd hate to admit to being a fan. Hopefully, our Cardinals will kick it in gear next year with a few additions/deletions.
  20. Actually, and I will have to check this document that I just printed, but I remember Al McGuire bringing MU at least once to the Arena. If my memory is correct it would be back in the Bob Polk days. By the way, I thought Bob Polk was a pretty decent Billiken HC...he coached Harry Rogers and Jimmy the Jet Irving. What I remember about Al was he really got our crowd worked up to a lather. By the way, his Asst. was Hank Raymonds, a former St. Louisan. My Dad knew Hank's mother very well.
  21. BRoy, That is cool stuff...I just printed the history stuff, as it has information on the players and years that they played for SLU. Since I am one of the old time fans...I will be able to connect the various players that I have seen going back to 50's and 60's.
  22. Choice, I'll second BRoy's welcome. Heck, with good smack like that defending the honor of our favorite team, don't be bashful about posting.
  23. David, The stars are alligned just right for our Billikens to wind up in the A-10...just as they were alligned for the Flubs to drop two in a row at Wrigley to the Fish, even with their two best pitchers rested and ready to go. What a choke job!
  24. Torch, Where are you getting the information on the number of times that we played someone...a press guide? If it is a press guide, how can I get a copy? By the way, back in our early MVC days, SLU did have a pretty fierce rivalry with Bradley. I also seem to recall when I first started listening to games in the 50's that SLU played KY what seemed like every year. I also seem to remember at one time that SLU had a winning record VS KY.
  25. So he ended up getting neither one...pretty much par for the course for that failed regime...glad we had our regime change, as I like Coach Soderberg 110% more.
