  1. is he going to coach somewhere next year? Whats up with Kramer?
  2. What guy worth anything with head experience will want to come to SLU, esp. after unceremoniously dumping Brad too late for him to get another gig and so late in the recruitig process? The best you will get is some untested assistant or D2 guy who may or may not make it. You can expect another 10 win season in two years, and how will excite anyone at a time when the bill come due on the new house? This smacks of administrative incompetence at it's worst. It's clear that someone with money forced this to happen or they would pull their support for the new arena. Great way to run a program. Shame on SLU for the way they handled this. Frankly, I hope this move backfires so the higher ups responsible for this malfeasance end up onthe soup line with Brad where they clearly belong.
  3. Dan Radley, Wisconsin-Oshkosh Class of 78 (MA 84) Junior and Senior High School Band Director.Former Girls and Boys HS varsity hoops coach (Bennett disciple), and referee. Never been to a Bills game, became a fan when Brad was hired. Brad has a distant relative(or so she thinks)in my school district in NW Wisconsin. Hoops junkie. Will watch a college game anywhere, anytime. UW Badger fan first, Wash St. second, Bills and UWGB and UWM come in there next! Always take my two personal days on the Thursday and Friday of The Big Dance 1st and 2nd rounds. Golf all summer.
  4. It's big because of the Nat. TV etc., but conference games are more important than any non conf. game (until tourney time), IMO. Maybe because of our new league our mindset isn't focused on beating those people, no real rivals established, etc. But wouldn't you agree the fate of your season lies largely in your league play, esp. in a league where you aren't guaranteed four or five slots in the dance?
  5. IIRC, The Bills were trying to get a team from Wisconsin to play them, LAwrence? Ripon? don't remember for sure which one was in their sites, then for reasons not completely clear it fell through. I'm guessing this is the game they got to replace that one?
  6. is also a D2 school, and a fine engineering school.
  7. Not that anyone necessarily cares, but my brother's belated rply was due to his successful play at the Wisconsin State Am Golf Tournament. Congrats on an excellent 4th place finish. Wish I was there. He isn't the guy who signed an incorrect scorecard after round three, is he? Couldn't find a list of the final scores/
  8. I undestand that argument, but let's look at a few examples of father son tandems that flourished: Dick Bennett/Tony Bennett- Saul Smith/Tubby Smith- Sean Sutton/Eddie Sutton- Homer Drew/Bryce Drew are a few that come to mind. I agree the kid has to be even better just to show everyone he earned his spot on the team. Tony Bennett often said that his dad was much tougher on him than the rest of the team. Brad is well versed on that relationship. Let's call that extra motivation for Kramer. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play for his dad, assuming he has D1 ability, unless a Duke comes calling
  9. in fact he just recently decided to stay, after turning down a chance to replace Howard Moore as an assistant at Loyola. Randall replaced his dad, who died tragically before the season started and led OW to the sectionals with an undeafeated record before losing to another undefeated team in Wisconsin Rapids. Polka is also listed as having been offered by UW Milwaukee, and may be a late signee so teams can see his improvement. Another player on that team to watch in Josh Langenfeld (sp), a 6'5 junior to be. He has been lighting it up on the AAU circuit to date. Oshkosh West (my alma mater) will be a pre season favorite to advance to state, they have a 6'7 soph to be that is the next player to watch in these parts as well. Funny, when I was there, we pretty much stunk in hoops and were a football power. Now it's just the opposite.
  10. I'm sure the Illini and UWM players (the ones that will decide this game)aren't interested in this at all, it's ancient history, and it just takes away from the fact that the Illini have an outstanding team on the verge of doing something great. Their fans juvenile whining takes away from their accomplishments. Unfortunately I expect them to totally embarass themselves Thursday night in front of a national TV audience. That team (and their coach, a UWM graduate) deserves better.
  11. Tony Bennett was involved in the recruiting process as well, esp. Devin Harris, who was under-recruited because of a injury during his junior year in HS. Wisconsin swooped in and signed him before the big boys really started to take notice. It's true that Bennett disdained recruiting, and Soderberg did a lot of the leg work, and Tony began doing a good deal of it after the FF4 run in 2000. Someone mentioned the Final Four game with Mich St., which most people do that know little about the UW program, but the four games leading up to the Final Four were perfect examples of Bennett ball, terrific offensive execution, awesome defense and fundamental play. The frustration on the faces of Arizona, and then LSU(Stromile Swift etc.) were just classic. I have tapes of those games and can't help but go back and watch from time to time. For a program that had so little hoops history to accomplish that was just an amazing time for our program.
  12. SLU mentioned here. Would be an great hire, OMO. http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/sports..._20328066.shtml
  13. Schools who have won at least 1 tourney game the past 4 years -Illinois -Wake Forest -Kentucky -Duke -UCONN -Wisconsin Pretty short list, huh?
  14. he's been reffing for years and years. Was never a problem until Gottleib opened his mouth with no facts to back it up. Doesn't he work CUSA games also? Hartzell also interviewed Brad for the NIU job when McDermott got it, Brad then landed on Romar's staff, and the rest is history.
  15. Jeff Capel didn't play for dad at ODU. How old is Kramer?
  16. WSU has seven freshman on their roster and their point guard is out with an injury. They are rebuilding and even the coach admitted this game, agaionst a team that could make the F4 again shouldn't have been scheduled. The guy has a track record of success, but, that program was in such bad shape, it will take time.
  17. Brad's brother Kurt has left his job at Northland College in Ashland, WI to take a job at Olivet College in Michigan. This kills the discussion of having Northland play the Bill's in one of the exhibition games in the future. Northland's record wasn't that great. but tremendous strides were made in Kurt's two years there. Sorry if this was posted earlier.
  18. it was played at the Resch Center, GB's home floor. IIRC, So. Miss won that game handily.
  19. Maybe this has been discussed. If so, I apologize. Saint Louis may seek UWGB athletics director Bothof By Rob Demovsky [email protected] Ken Bothof, the athletics director at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for the past 2½ years, could become a candidate for the same job at Saint Louis University. Before he was hired to lead UWGB’s athletics department on Nov. 14, 2001, Bothof was associate AD for external operations at Saint Louis for six years. The top job in Saint Louis’ athletics department opened Wednesday, when the school’s longtime AD, Doug Woolard, left for the same position at the University of South Florida. As of Wednesday evening, Bothof had not been contacted by any representatives from Saint Louis. However, it was unlikely any potential candidates had been contacted because the school still was putting together its search committee. When reached on Wednesday evening, Bothof refused comment. Though several potential candidates almost will certainly be interviewed, Bothof would appear likely to be on the school’s list. All indications are he was well liked at Saint Louis. Former colleagues there gave him glowing recommendations when he was hired at UWGB. A source close to Saint Louis’ search confirmed no official candidates had been identified but acknowledged that Bothof would be a natural fit to return to the school. “Ken would be an obvious person to consider,†the source said. Bothof’s tenure at UWGB has been marked by major change in a men’s basketball program that had become dreadful before his arrival. He fired Mike Heideman as coach shortly after he arrived and hired Tod Kowalczyk, who in two years has begun to turn the program around. Kowalczyk’s team went 17-11 last season and finished third in the Horizon League. It was the first winning season for the Phoenix since the 1998-99 season. Bothof also has made strides in raising money for the athletics department and has been involved in a project to renovate the Phoenix Sports Center. Before working at Saint Louis, Bothof worked at San Jose State and Idaho State. Saint Louis is a member of Conference USA but will move to the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2005.
  20. AD does it! Is that his biggest game as a Billiken? He looked great tonight. Enjoyed finally getting to see the Bills play. After that ugly first 10 minutes or so, I liked what I saw!
  21. Merry Christmas. (BTW- I did not attend the University of Wisconsin, obviously you didn't either.)
  22. Actually I'm not a Marquette hater. In the 60's and 70's I was a big MU fan, but got closer to the Badger program after that. I want them to do well, as well as UWM and UWGB. Flamers like him just get my blood boiling from time to time. I'll try harder to ignore him in the future.
  23. UW playing Maryland at the Bradley Center was part of the ACC/B10 challenge, ESPN picked the venue as a neutral site, not Maryland or Wisconsin. This wasn't a made for TV game, that was. You knew that, but of course your agenda to to midlead and distort the truth when it comes to The University of Wisconsin.
  24. Aha. Hence the new building. They should hurry up and get that thing built. SLU shouldn't be sharing anything with a competing team.
