  2. What a coincidence -- I've got some friends in Jerseyville who'll I'll be attending a game with in January. Their opponent is Mascoutah. Thanks for the heads up.
  3. Compared to the guards that Georgia Tech and Arizona have, our guards aren't quick. Those guys would eat up our press.
  4. Bottom line -- we have to make shots. If we play defense like we're capable of and make at least 45% of our shots, we can play with anybody.
  5. Lee and McKinney were not required to beat West Virginia last night, better shooting was. Northeastern beat these guys on their home floor by shooting 43% from the field and 52% from three and there isn't a single top 100 player on their squad. We got open shots, we just didn't make them.
  6. As erratic as the defense last night, if our guys shoot 45%% from the field and shoot 75% from the line, we win the game, even with West Virginia shooting 56% from the field. We've got to start shooting the ball better.
  7. I realize that Borgia has played 3 cupcake games in their first 4, but Luke is doing exactly what a legit D-1 player should against weak competition -- dominating.
  8. It was only a matter time before Mr. Murkey had a breakout game and this is it. Some school is gonna get a very nice player this spring. http://prepsports.stltoday.com/ssi/prep/st...+40-point+night
  9. in ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1675415 "Making the biggest move was Georgia Tech. Previously unranked, the Yellow Jackets (5-0) landed at No. 15 after winning the Preseason NIT title with victories over UConn and Texas Tech in Madison Square Garden."
  10. I was at the game also. Jarrod's offense consisted of driving to his right and finishing at the rim, which he did successfully even in traffic. Needs to work on his left hand and stop pushing off. I like his energy level. Desmet had a distinct size and skill advantage inside with David Ward so there wasn't really any need to for the guards to look for their offense. Ward was basically catching the ball, turning and laying it in against the dimunitive Riverview squad.
  11. Both Arizona and GTech will be ranked in the top 12 when we play them, most likely. Going 5-0 would be more than enough to break the top 25. But first thing's first - the Mountaineers. The Billikens whipped them by 30 last year. I'll take a victory of any sort this season.
  12. I couldn't make it either, Roy, but apparently this poster did. Note: copy and paste the entire link into your browser {moderator's note: edited to make link easier} http://tinyurl.com/x4i6
  13. I go to sleep early last night with the Jillikens down by 13 points, all the post players in foul trouble and the young guards unable to hit the side of a barn. I wake up and find that they came back from a 17 point 2nd quarter deficit with seniors Lewis, Solomon and Holloway leading the way. What a great win!
  14. Besides jumping real high and shooting 12 footers, I'm not sure what skills you're referring to. After 3 years, he's still very raw.
  15. I dare you to make a recruiting post on this board that isn't Marquette related. In fact, I double-dare ya :-)
  16. I'd take Maguire over Aaron Jackson right now. I'd also take Matt Akins over David Ward as far as post players are concerned.
  17. Nate, be sure to check out Nathan Whittaker, a junior guard for Sullivan and Dustin Maguire, a sophomore swingman for Civic Memorial. Those kids are both the real deal.
  18. A 6 point win over some team I've never heard of? C'mon guys.
  19. "I thought our interior defense was good as well. JJ did an excellent job. Varner was burned on 4 or 5 plays, just does not ahve the quickness to get around screens and their one PF took it to him inside, IMO Varner was helpless" I have to give you credit on your call about Varner. He's a competitor but it's Diener defense all over again - not nearly quick enough.
  20. "Coach Brad (based on his postgame interview) and I disagree with you on your defensive analysis." That makes three of us.
  21. I think you had it right the first time. Sloan was known for his rebounding and ability to score in the paint in high school, just like he is doing now. Due to his bum shoulder and a loss of confidence, he underachieved the first 2 1/2 years at SLU. That's why I'm not ready to give up on Izik yet.
  22. Ike really hasn't perfected the mid-range jumper off the dribble. I don't think I've seen him convert more than 3 jumpers off the dribble since he's been here.
  23. "he got to the basket he just doesn't finish" Might have to do with his current 16 inch vertical. You ever try to jump on two sprained ankles?
  24. "I would have a hard time believing IO's problem was his ankles" Why? He was the most dominant player in practices and scrimmages for the past 3 months. After he sprained his ankles he has just been average in practice.
