  1. We're a firm NIT team at this point. To many teams to jump over to even think about an NCAA bid. #1 Duke Stanford St. Joe's Pittsburgh #2 Oklahoma St. Mississippi St. UConn Kentucky #3 Texas Wake Forest Arizona Kansas #4 NC State Providence Florida St. Cinci #5 UNC Georgia Tech Louisville Gonzaga #6 Illinois Wisconsin Southern Illinois Memphis #7 UAB Seton Hall Syracuse South Carolina #8 Boston College Charlotte Dayton Florida #9 Maryland Utah Texas Tech LSU #10 Michigan St. Oklahoma Notre Dame Vanderbilt #11 Utah St. Rutgers Kent St. Depaul #12 UTEP Hawaii Western Michigan BYU
  2. The bad news -- we really sucked on offense tonight. The good news - Marquette sucked even worse. I'll take the W and move on.
  3. Terry is taller but he couldn't guard the chair I'm sitting in. Murkey at two inches shorter is the better rebounder, ball handler and far superior defender.
  4. We have no business playing NC A&T or Grambling ever again. Those programs are totally undermanned.
  5. A couple of Toms? We were fortunate to get the one we have.
  6. I'd prefer Murkey as well. He's a scorer and every bit the defender Jones is. Not sure about Jones' grades, but Murkey is an honor student.
  7. "it would be pointless to sign a roll player type of guard - you won't get much better than that during the summer before school starts." It would be pointless to pass up JB Jones/Cameron Murkey if Tommie is coming to SLU anyway the following year after prep school. We can have our cake and eat it too.
  8. This isn't really that complicated. If Tommie qualifies by the begining of the spring signing period, he's eligible to play next season. If not, we get another guard, Tommie goes to prep school and comes in with the 2005 class. There's no need to play the waiting game into the summer.
  9. "I don't know why all of you keep talking about TL going to a prep school" Because Jalensdad, who actually knows the Liddell family, brought it up as a possibility.
  10. Just another day at the office for the mid-range assassin. Edwardsvile's 6'7 PF Nick Arth is starting to blow up. He scored 21 points and pounded the glass tonight against O'Fallon. He's averaging about 16 points and 11 boards the last five games against pretty good competition. Hope he grows another inch.
  11. "I'm sure Brad would love to take a guy like Jimmy but lets say its April and Jimmy announces his intention to leave (I don't think it'll happen myself but lets just act like it does). At this point I assume the TL situation is still up in the air. Regardless, we only have one scholarship to give and are desparately in need of a power forward. What do you do?" The decision rests with Tommie. Point blank, he needs to decide by the beginning of the spring signing period whether he will be going to prep school or coming to SLU as a partial qualifier. We all love Tommie, but he shouldn't get a blank check.
  12. McKinney didn't go to Mizzou so he could be the third option.
  13. If Jimmy came here, he'd be playing in the A10 not Conference USA. Two guards with his size and jumping ability are a luxury in that league. We'd be fools not to take him.
  14. To be fair, aj told us he would be better as a sophomore than Marque was a senior. He merely implied that Jimmy was in Larry's class. Of course, he was wrong in both cases.
  15. I know you understand jjray, but I don't think a lot of fans understand how hard it us for a kid to go from shooting 12 times a game in high school to shooting 12 times in two months. No way for a kid to establish a rhythm offensively.
  16. Why are you putting this on Roy? He doesn't write like that and he doesn't have any interest in the Kroenkes.
  17. "Earlier in the season we were suggesting that Izik's play was reminiscent of Seikue Barentine's." Who said that?
  18. Afraid not. I'll be at the East St. Louis/Vashon showdown on Saturday, though.
  19. A frontcourt of Vouyoukas and Frericks would be somewhat similar to Dayton's frontcourt of Waleskowski and Finn in terms of size, style of play and athleticism. Waleskowski can shoot the 15 footer, though.
  20. Charter is replaying the Lafayette/Marquette game from Friday night. It was a low scoring affair but Lawrence shows some nice hops and smoothness to his game.
  21. I've never met you David, but I'd wager your quickness is better than Ian or Ross :-)
  22. They're in the same predicament we are - the more athletic teams in the conference just jump over the top of them. And when their threes aren't falling, things tend to get ugly.
  23. It shouldn't have to take an injury to Frericks for IO and Ian to see more minutes. Varner has been a trooper but it's really time for him to take a seat.
  24. What made Evans special was his Julian Winfield-like running and jumping ability. He could change the momentum of a game with his jaw-dropping alley dunks in traffic andd ability to rebound out of area at 6'4. Without the crazy athleticism, he's just a 6'4 spot up shooter.
  25. Don't be fooled by three-point percentages. In high school, those percentages may be inflated due to the quality a shots a particular player gets. Cardinal Ritter plays in a league where Evans can shoot over the top of unathletic 6'0 small forwards. And when they play against better teams, the focus of the opposition is on stopping Barnett which gives Evans a lot of uncontested jump shots. Blake Ahearn's three point percentage his senior year at Desmet was actually lower than Evans, but he was shooting 40% from three against much better competition.
