  1. Makes sense because Casey was the hockey guy and I believe they added Jeremy Rutherford. 101 ESPN is essentially turning into the St. Louis Post Dispatch radio station. Bernie M. has one of their biggest shows and all of their "insiders" are/were PD beat writers Strauss (Cardinals), Goold (Cardinals), Rutherford (Blues), and Jim Thomas (Rams). If Burwell hadn't been so awful on radio, he would likely still have his show as well. Tom Timmerman should probably approach some of his PD pals about getting a weekly Bills show during the season, if he wants to supplement his income. The PD is really the only game in town to go for proven sports "experts," but it would be nice if 101 developed some of their own "talent." Some inaccuracies above... Tom Casey's role as Blues "Insider" was cut midway through last season. He even stopped going to Blues games when that happened. Joe Strauss has had a weekly show on KTRS for the past year...he also appears on KFNS with the Morning After guys weekly. he is not on 101 as an insider, Jim Thomas has been the KMOX "insider" for about a year. He is not on 101 as an insider. Jeremy Ruthorford is just now beginning his stint with 101. He has been the "insider" and a weekly host at 590 for the past several years.
  2. This is Alford's description of the double technical fouls after the game.
  3. Keith Carter Leaves Billiken Program FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 Contact: ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis interim head coach Jim Crews announced today that freshman guard Keith Carter (Chicago, Ill./Proviso East) has left the Billiken men’s basketball program due to personal reasons. “When commitments are started, you don’t want to see things like this happen,” Crews said. “Unfortunately this is something that is consistent and constant in college basketball. With that said, we wish Keith the best in his future plans.” Carter appeared in three games for the Billikens and averaged 3.0 ppg.
  4. Guy was scheduled out. The fill-in was Shawn Balint. He's a long-time St Louis radio guy. Used to be at KTRS and was the PA guy for the Grizzlies as well. He's pretty good at that...much better than Guy. Once the new sound system folks got the levels straightened out...that made him sound great! (We've been dealing with a new sound person all year.)
  5. Frank had Majerus on as a pretty regular college basketball radio guest in the year prior to the Soderberg firing. They got to be quite close friends during those segments on 590
  6. So relieved to see that Gary has made his way back to the board. Way to get back in the swing of things, Gary!
  7. http://www.usatoday....dition/1712145/ Angie Kvidera, Majerus' girlfriend said Majerus' coaching career isn't necessarily over. "He fully believes he's going to be able to coach," she said. "If it's not going to be at Saint Louis, I know he's going to be coaching again somewhere." About the most optimism I've seen from ANYONE about Majerus' health.

  9. To be fair, Timmerman has been covering other sports since the SLU season ended...including Blues playof hockey and he's been at the ballpark all week with the Birds. Its not like he's shirking his responsibilities at the PD lately, he's covering what he is assigned. Of late, he's filed stories covering SLU baseball, softball, track and field as well as the VCU announcement. He will cover the story of new assistant coaches when they are hired. This board is the place to speculate on thos jobs, not the PD.
  10. One of the good guys in the department, Asst AD Declan O'Neill is leaving as well. He'd been with SLU since the Spoon days, was a team manager at one point. The revolving door continues...
  11. Men’s Basketball Banquet Set for May 6 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, April 23, 2012 **The May 6 date is a change from an earlier announcement** ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University will hold a men’s basketball banquet at Chaifetz Arena Sunday, May 6, to celebrate the memorable 2011-12 season which saw the Billikens advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased by calling the Billiken Ticket Office at 314-977-3250 or by email at [email protected]. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a reception, with the dinner and program slated to begin at 6 p.m. Guests will park in the Fred Weber VIP Lot and enter through the Chaifetz Arena VIP entrance on the west side of the building. The Billikens are coming off one of their best seasons in recent history. They went 26-8 overall, advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, their first NCAA appearance since 2000. SLU, a No. 9 seed, upended eighth-seeded Memphis 61-54 in the NCAA second round in Columbus, Ohio, the Bills’ first win in NCAA Tournament play since 1995. Two days later, SLU battled No. 1-seed Michigan State to the wire before falling 65-61. Additional highlights from the Billikens’ 2011-12 campaign include winning the ESPN 76 Classic in Anaheim over Thanksgiving, which led to the Billikens’ first national ranking since 1994. Brian Conklin and Kwamain Mitchell reached the 1,000-point milestone, and the duo were named All-Conference with Conklin earning first-team distinction and Mitchell being named to the third team. In addition, Jordair Jett was named to the All-Defensive team while Conklin and Kyle Cassity earned a spot on the league’s All-Academic team. Included in the celebration will be special recognition for Billiken seniors Kyle Cassity and Brian Conklin.
  12. Thank you to Ben for re-tweeting Jeff Goodman's original link to a full list of transfers. The full list is here: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/18443369/2012-end-of-year-updated-transfer-list-300-plus-and-growing

  14. To be fair, 99% of the SLU athletics department is busy this weeked hosting the Midwest Regional. I suspect there will be an end of year event of some kind. Give them a chance, they had to travel to AC, Columbus and host a Regional in back-to-back-to-back weekends. "Patience Daniel-son"
  15. This is true...Clooney did regularly shoot at Chaifetz while he was in town. Declan O'Neil from the AD was his regular shooting partner
  16. The Renaissance in downtown... pretty high class hotel...NCAA had us and the Michigan State contingent including team staying there with us. And yet they didn't have free internet. And I couldn't talk them into giving it to our students for free.... 13 bucks a day!! We went over to Starbucks across the street and took up space in their lobby where, oddly enough, it was free... a hassle, but I find it strange that these "higher end" hotels charge for internet while the lower end ones dont.

  18. More like 10,000+. This is why the games should be played in the pavilion (where the volleyball team plays most matches) until the hoops team gains some fans. 300 people in a venue that seats 700 is a HELL of a lot better than 300 in a 10,600 seat building. It might actually get loud in the pavilion with that crowd. It will NEVER happen in the main building. It has to be hard for the team to see so many empty seats on a daily basis.
  19. if there was a big SLU announcement, there would be an additional press release urging the local media to come to the above-mentioned presser. It wouldn't JUST be reported on a tweet and slubillikens. I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves and over thinking it. I think its just the NCAA update.

  21. This will be posted on KTRS.com after the show
  22. No...seriously, its at about 85-100 on any given game, which is in the same range as its been for the past 10 years or so. If you don't believe me, thats up to your visual estimates I guess. We do for once have 6 sousaphone players and there are an inordinate number of saxophone players for some reason..so maybe thats why we look bigger. Would you rather have an empty section? I'm sure you don't see that anywhere else in college basketball either? Guess its not OK to be unique?
  23. Actually, very similar size numbers for the past 10 years or so. Were there any complaints about our size then? Or last year?
