  1. 1. First, Kiel is NOT open on Monday. They wrap up the Wrestlung event LATE tonite and tear that set-up down. Sunday night, they have a concert with 2 people from American Idol. Do you know what their stage set-up includes?? Figure those trucks leaving the building in the wee hours monday morning. Finally (if the NCAA requirements are the same for wrestling as for its college hoops tournaments) the Kiel folks need to completely re-make the ice for the Blues. (Ice hasnt been present since the Wrest. championships set-up due to the aforementioned NCAA requirements). That cannot be done in a day. IF Kiel had been avail, they would have made sure Woolard knew that it was a possibility b/c they are in this business to make money...No WAY would they turn down more SLU cash if the building was open. 2. Yep. Thats the type of situation we have to deal with in a building that isnt our own. Fam arena contracts with metrotix for ALL of their events...do you expect them to risk their long term relaionship with them for one NIT game? By the way, the upper bowl was open and several hundred folks were sitting up there. Do you know that it was a SLU mandate that the upper bowl (according to you) not be opened? Perhaps it was the NIT? So our season ticket people actually had to work to get their seats for once. I was happy that there was a chance for people who are usually sitting hehind the "blue hairs" to get up close and personal. It was ONE game folks..get over it. 3. Kiel is a Union building as well. According to Brian Stull on 1380 (he works the Steamers games as PA announcer), the regular clock guy informed the higher-ups at Fam arena that he had not worked a d1 game. Early in the day he was told that SLU would bring its regular timer and that he would be re-assigned that evening to a different location....about 4 pm he was informed that he would be working the clock that night at 6. He had no pregame information from the Fam arena folks as to the d1 rules and was being helped by the regular slu scorers at the table. According to several people, it was the family arena higher-ups that wanted more control of the event. Since we are a guest at that building, we have to do what they decide.
  2. The problem with Kiel is that the NCAA Wrestling Championships run through Saturday night with that final session beginning at 530 pm March 20. Sunday March 21 at 7 pm there is a concert featuring American Idol people...who knows what kind of set-up that requires. That means the only time to create an ice surface is monday, and that takes some time. NCAA events require a concrete floor under their event. Buildings are not allowed to cover an ice surface during one of their events (I know this from the Women's final four a couple years ago). NIT has their schedule for the second round as March 20, 22, 23, so we just didnt fit into the schedule with all the events at Kiel. Heck, I was initially miffed that we "lost" the game to Ft Wayne, but now that the Notre Dame fans are filling up a 13,000 seat building, I dont mind.
  3. Law, BayArea may have been factoring in the possibility of a saturday night game against ND at the Family Arena when he said it would draw well. A Saturday game was the initial thought process that the SLU folks seemed to have about the situation. I agree with you...monday and tuesday night is not a great date for a game, but that saturday game possibility had my mouth watering.
  4. Steve, Tom is such an "emergency" guy right now it would include virtually everyone fouling out for him to get in the game.
  5. I see a hole in their schedule on saturday night. I wonder if our game would have fit in there... http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlisting...40320&network=2
  6. I don't think RPI played any role in this decision. What I dont understand is that if SLU made assurances that the normal clock crew that SLU uses at every game at Kiel would be in house...why would the NIT sacrifice a Saturday night game? Had it been here it most likely would have been on national TV. Why have a a Monday night game that is not close to either school's home and not on TV? Weird. and Disappointing...because I was excited about the possibility of another "home" game.

  8. Former IBL team that was in St Chuck about 5 years ago. Bernie Bickerstaff was the coach. I believe they won 2 IBL titles.
  9. Looked like a low turnout as well...lots of empty space at the Bradley Ctr. 5634 announced Now, I'm not taking shots, its tough to get a crowd less than 24 hours after the game is announced. I hope we do as well tonite.
  10. ...last night. That Page Ave Extension (364?) really is convenient to the arena. About 5 miles off 270 and just a mile or so south of the building. What worries me is getting from SLU at 430 (height of Rush hour) out there. the band will be there, but we may be a tad later than normal game situations.
  11. 1:05 Bruce Webber 2:45 Lorenzo Romar
  12. Never too many of these contests. If it doesnt take you too much time, please set one up for us!
  13. Will be there....somewhere. Dont know where the band is situated for this game.
  14. Very low key. Says he's in such a strange situation with the Lon Kruger hiring while Jay is still head coach.
  15. The Bracket that I printed out from NIT.org last night lists our game as being on ESPN2. If it isn't on, and tv is the only reason the game is scheduled for 6 pm....then why cant we change it to a better time?
  16. Steve, you didnt miss terribly much with the SLoan, Fish, Hunt interview. Cus touched briefly on the Hunt shot at the end of the Houston game. Players are happy about getting to the NIT, wasnt their team goal but are happy. Players made their pick for Nat Champions... Hunt picked UCONN. Fish and Sloan said they liked someone from CUSA and went with Cincy. The few minutes with earl that I saw after the team on 5 were better and I was sorry I missed the starting few minutes. and on Rene...I know this household doesn't care for him at all. He repeatedly screws up simple things. I think maybe Ch 5 only saw his personal resume tape, not tapes from other nights when he wasn't as good.
  17. -Reggie was scheduled to be back at SLU last nite. -Frericks will play, said his shoulder feels better than the Cincy game, but nowhere near 100% but a lot much less pain.
  18. Read somewhere last week that both Larry Eustachy (of Iowa State and Mizzou post-game basketball party fame) as well as Nolan Richardson (Arkansas and "I didn't deserve to be canned" fame) have inside tracks with solid contacts within the Houston athletic department. Will be interesting to see who gets that job. McCollam wasn't there terribly long and he followed the Clyde "the Glide" Drexler experiment.
  19. > >You do realize that the post is delivered as far west as >Columbia. In fact my sister recieves it everyday. And that >the paper can be purchased at news stands every day. Yep, you can get the Post in Columbia. So what? I can also get the Chicago Tribune and the New York times delivered daily, should they have coverage of the tigers too? >Personally I read the paper online so I don't see what >article goes where but I believe that the coverage of both >schools has been great. Well, then you don't exactly understand any of the arguments presented here since you dont get the physical copy of the paper. The point is not the number of stories, its the continued poor and unexplainable (to some) placement of stories. To see the BIG MIZZOU WIN over BAYLOR on the front page of the post compared to the lowly coverage of the SLU game that same night, you might have a problem as well.

  21. Box You make the key point..This is the ST LOUIS Post-Dispatch...not the Missouri Post. Its a paper that should serve the readers of the local area primarily, then pick up news from the outlying areas. Columbia is one of those outlying areas and shouldnt get the press that an event locally should garner. Heard on the radio a couple weeks back that the Post has done a study and that its readers are more interested in Mizzou...direct from the sports editor.
  22. We may not have beaten cincy with martin in that game (and without Marque Perry) but we were winning when he went down late in the first half...so they weren't exactly repeating their performance of a week earlier at the Shoe
  23. http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articles/...sbaby05-ON.html LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Last Dec. 26, Connie Neal's coach was unhappy with how she ran steps at practice. He told her she looked like she was "carrying a 10-pound weight." He was only about two pounds off. Neal, 20, a sophomore at the University of Louisville, was eight months pregnant and playing Division I basketball - and nobody knew.
  24. With the 5 way tie, C-USA had to go to tiebreakers for the final seedings. The folks in Cincy expected a 2 seed with Memphis falling to a 3... (from the Cincy Enquirer) " UC, 10-1 against the Tigers at Fifth Third, also need a win to receive a first-round bye in next week's conference tournament. They will claim the No. 2 seed if there's a five-way tie for first. " Folks on the Cincy board are quite confused and a little miffed over the situation. As a side note from SLU athletics: Charter Communications will carry the first round game on its CCIN channel. Should the Billikens advance, the quarterfinal game also will air on CCIN.
