  1. I am a relatively young person who occasionally listens to hip hop and I still don't know what crunk is.
  2. Newborne played his freshman year at Howard, not a shabby learning institution. He wanted to play at a higher level at bball, his grades were certainly never an issue.
  3. But Dustin Macguire will play for Edwardsville next year.
  4. From the article "As a player, Diener was a renowned 3-point shooter who helped Saint Louis advance to the NCAA tournament once and to the NIT twice." Is Drew's Mom writing this press release? C'mon.
  5. I saw Bobby, Johnny and Leon at the quarterfinal game at UMSL. That was a few weeks ago. I am 6'3, Johnny and Bobby were not taller than I was, Leon was slightly taller than me. They all have of course time to grow but not being accurate on their respective heights does no one any good.
  6. SEMO is a good choice for Johnny bball and acedemic wise. The V has doen much better in preparing their kids for life after Vashon. Recently the only big screwups have been with Kern, even LoGo and Shelton maneaged to turn things around after a few bumps in the road. SLU had no room for Johnny, we have as much as offered Bobby. It is up to him at this point. VTIME do you know what Muse is up to? Where is he playing and how he is doing?
  7. Don't forget Kyle Kirk another kid we have offered. Hill needs to develop better skills away from the basket IMO. I don't buy his athletic abilities being superior to other kids we have offered, like Ghost jr or kirk. Also the Vs heights on these guys are way overestimated. Johnny and Bobby are not 6'5 or 6'6. More like 6'3 at best 6'4. Leon is a good 6'5 not 6'7 and the other youngsters in the post are no taller than Leon is.
  8. That would be quite unorthodox. One would think Mr Liddell and his long arms would be a better idea for a zone out top. Maybe he and Brown out top, Obi, JJ (playing hard and smart), and Ian or husak in the middle would be a fairly formidable zone. I usually prefer a 3-2 mathup zone with the 3 guys out top trapping in the half court. Thats works best for 12 year old girls at least.
  9. Bryce is the perfect player to have for a zone. It seems to be a no brainer but I don't think it will happen. I think Bryce will be the main backup to Ian, but hopefully Ian will be on the floor alot.
  10. So you can keep your eligibilty at the college level. I am surprised more people don't do this. I think a few years back a sportswriter did it. I might do it, how hard could it be?
  11. Hughes should be getting an extrememly rich contract. The Wiz already pay Jamison the max and Arenas will probably want that to. That doesn't leave much for any other players. I don't see the Wiz as much more than playoff fodder for Detroit, Indiana, and Miami with or without Larry. If there was an oppurtunity where he could hook up with a real proven superstar, say Garnett for instance, I would have him take it.
  12. Congrats to Larry the Legend. He joins Ben Wallace, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, and Bruce Bowen on the NBA All Defensive first team.
  13. Unfortunately the hospital does not have direct ties to SLU. I believe it was sold a few years ago.
  14. I don't have as much of a pessimistic view as you do but suffice it to say I will not be predicting any postseason berths for this year as I did last. With DP, LM, TL, KL and now Dustin SLU is now getting the very best players in the region. That is what excites me. If we can consistently get the top 2 or 3 players form St. Louis, which is improving their bball greatly in the past few years, we can be at least be a year in year out contender for the A-10 title. History shows that the area talent can carry us that far. With Mizzou down and Illinois focusing on higher recruits SLU can gain control of the area. At thsi stage coming off a very poor year and having some parts of our roster either being depleted or exceedingly young and /or inexperienced we are going to have to take some risks on incoming recruits. These risks like Obi will have to pan out. Until we have sustained some success we will have to continue playing this game. Then of course when ground is broken on the arena that will also serve to even the playing field for us. I am not convinced that it will happen but if it does we will be in good shape. The arena would make us superior to the Valley teams vying for area talent that we are having to compete with and unfortunately in the recent past losing much of our potential area talent pool to.
  15. Your presence raises the IQ level of this board by leaps and bounds Prof. Please don't be a stranger.
  16. Maybe when Larry retires SLU will get some love but for now I doubt that Larry is interested in leaving a legacy at a school he spent all of one year at.
  17. Then he also runs the risk of further dissapointment which could serve to dampen efforts at fundrasing and even his recruiting. I have had enough of SLU officials making grand statements and then not backing them up. Announcing things when they are signed sealed and delivered for me is much more desireable.
  18. You have to also consider though Miami has a much more post oriented offense with big man dominating the ball. Washington is strictly on the perimeter. Wade gets less chances to score. Wade is becoming a premier player, on tap with McGrady, Bryant, etc. I really don't think Arenas and Hughes have the talent to hit that ceiling. They are certainly all star caliber players though. Hughes is somewhat overshadowed by Arenas but if he learns some patience on defense he could be looking at some DPOY awards down the road.
  19. If you think HS kids have the same interest or even close to the same in college bball as the posters here on the board or a average fan you are mistaken. Floyd probably does protect his players pretty well from the recruiting hordes but still Leon as a 16 year old probably has little interest in some 60 year old college bball coach and what he has to say, much less have any knowledge beyond rudimentary what schools even have good programs much less who is recruiting him. There are much more "important" things on Mr Powells mind. At this point he is probably just out there playing ball. College although it will hopefully occur for him in a couple years is light years away in his thinking. Frankly although this may perplex some I think this is a healthy attitude for a kid to take. No sense in swimming with all those sharks before you have to.
  20. A lot about Leonard's situation is up in the air. At this point he may not graduate in 06. Still Leonard would have to be considered a protypical SF, certainly not a sg at the college level so I think he will still be recruited. I really don't get players demanding or even coaches telling them that there will be no more recruits at that players position. That is ridiculous, if a recruit can help a team he should be signed regardless, it is on the player to win PT. Making and following through with those demands is a detriment to the team.
  21. Excellent news. Brad took care of business on his on campus visit. Hopefully the streak will continue on this weekend.
  22. Any info on this guy? Ht, Lbs, position, playing style?
  23. >Gray said Francis "has really kept the program together >since Jill left. He didn't let any kids or anything slip >through the cracks." All except the team's laeding scorer who happens to be a freshman.
  24. Can we get this guy? Although listed at 7 feet Iti is closer to the 6'8 PF we need. Lutz is a great coach but he has trouble developing players in the past. Iti could be a force if properly motivated.
