It’s a gameday thread… for yet another game where we were unprepared and non competitive (until the last five minutes, by which point it was too late).   If we can’t discuss our coach’s deficiencies here, we can’t discuss them anywhere. Maybe every thread can stop being hijacked with excuses for why we are totally non-competitive.   “if only Parker played we would’ve won”  First, I don’t believe that and I’d argue anyone who isn’t wearing Blue tinted glasses would agree he wouldn’t have prevented wide open shots and a total lack of inside presence.  Second, ENOUGH of the excuses for why we lose.  Parker isn’t available. Injuries happen to every team.  They have a new coach and 11 new players and they wiped the floor with us for 35 minutes.

The game wasn't close. Only the final score and we can thank their coach for at least partialy playing Travis Ford and taking the air out of the ball. And yes I would like to play fast and jack up a bunch of 3's but no one can play like we did for the last 3 minutes a whole game. The one thing I hope Ford learned is that he has to play one of his bigs if the other team has bigs. Starting Bruce in the second half was the best thing Ford has done this year.

By about an inch. Took max effort to make the catch and stay in bounds. That was a big, strong team that has a good shot to make the tourney. We were just too small to consistently stop them but I thought the Bills played well and much better than Saturday.

Loved all the mixing up of the zones used to try to slow down their bigs. This won’t be popular, but props to Travis and the coaching staff for making those adjustments.

Might have been Jimerson’s best game as a Billiken. He was making grown man drives to the hoop, knocking down shots, and making the right pass at the right time.

Meadows played well, TJ gave it everything he had and Bruce is improving. Did anyone notice late in the game Van Bussell and Dalger getting into it with each other? What was that about?

Bottom line, the Bills are working hard to get better and with Parker this would be a dangerous team.

Right in front of me. About 1/16th of an inch.

agree.  Zero inside-out passes.  Albeit these "kickouts" work best when they need to double team our big.  Teams generally do not need to double-team our bigs.

We don't have an inside game. TJ playes at the top of the key screening and occasionally driving to the basket. Haven't seen enough of Bruce but I don't beleive we change the set.

79-75 win over UIC. As per usual, while losing entering the 4th, they end up winning. Peyton Kennedy with 29 pts, 12-12 from the field, 5-5 from free throws, yes please, do more of that. Literally cannot do better shooting the ball. Sadly, I was unable to attend.

It was a great game if you liked turnovers. 52 in total.

I have no proof besides rumors we've heard and then a public show of support for Ford by the AD.  Usually those public show's of support happen for a reason. I hope it happened.

You can not believe it.  Doesn't change the reality that Ford needs to go.

The pro May and Ford crowd can keep the semantic arguments and the requests for proof going as their only defense.  All the proof you need are results on the court. Check the official box scores. There's your proof. 27 years of proof.  Losing record vs rivals. 1 win in the NCAA tournament evah.  Proof enough.

You are avoiding the point. I don’t believe there were any rumors besides Cheese’s comment. I am not arguing for or against May or Ford but trying to stop what I believe is a false narrative.

@slu92 I don't agree with your conclusions. The Tatum stuff was wild speculation, message board fodder.   As for Hughes, he's an ambassador of the program. He was often in attendance before his son started playing.  Perhaps he knows this whole thing is a house of cards about to come down and he doesn't want his kid to go through that at SLU. I don't fault him.

@cheeseman I agree it's almost like we can't afford to not fire Ford.  Maybe that group of boosters that approached May to make a change last season is selling off their Doge coin now for the buy out.  I hope so and I hope the AD is canned too.

I think Pestello is clueless. What can we do to raise the profile of these issues?

Again Please provide some proof that a group of boosters wanted to buy out Ford’s contract. Cheese said he heard it from someone second hand. Personally don’t believe it.

This team is at best a collection of situational role players.  Frankly, there isn’t a starter-level talent player on this team.  Jimerson? Off the bench shooter.  Hargrove? Off the bench energy guy.  Dalger?  Off the bench fourth forward.  Meadows?  Andre Jones Jr.  Medley? Freshman learner.  Hughes?  Thames?  Zhang?  Talent that shrinks as roles expand.

The real issue is who stocked this talent (Ford) and who (Ford) returns to what he knows in the weave, the half court walk up game and no press (Ford).  This ass-hat is done.

I am not trying to fight with you but what game did you watch? I don’t remember any weaves (almost every team weaves at some point even Duke) .We continually trapped and pressed at the half court line. I do agree with the lack of talent but he is trying to press and he has changed defense’s more this year than ever before.

This is a really incredibly bad take.

NIL and free transfers SHOULD be a huge advantage to SLU in so many ways.

Now I think this is an incredibly bad take. I see no way either is an advantage. At best we can only hope to survive that game. I question that over time the Villanova’s and Gonzaga’s can continue to thrive.

I read an article about him a few years ago. He’s like Few. He’s found a home there. He also lives in a nice house with Ocean views. I don’t think a view of the Mississippi would compare. Good coach. The article said he’s been offered PAC 12 jobs but’s content at St M’s. I always hoped we’d get a winning coach that would find a home here. Be careful what you wish for, because I think we found him. Now all he has to do is WIN!

Come on 72. The Mississippi is beautiful.

This is one of the rare occasions where lack of transparency makes sense.  You can only use a medical redshirt if it's a season ending injury.  It's too early to make that call.  If I were SLU, I wouldn't give any further details about Parker's situation at all until that decision is made.

We're not good enough to make a run in the A10 tournament without a legitimate big.  Does it even make sense for Parker to return this season if we're a below .500 team by then and our big man situation hasn't improved substantially?

I would think a lot of this would depend on what Parker wants. What’s his degree status? What’s his NIL status? Portal? Professional aspirations? Girlfriend?

Actually, it’s the opposite for both similar types of baseball programs to SLU, as well as for bigger programs in better leagues with similar geographical weather challenges.

Much of the Big East, Big 10, Big 12, and some of the ACC, and some of the SEC etc…programs play on turf.

The SEC has been the best league in the country for years and Vandy, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mizzou, soon to be additions Oklahoma, Texas, all play on turf. Notre Dame, Louisville, etc….

College baseball starts in February. Turf allows for more use and more year round training in a more efficient practical manner.

And, if you click on the link provided above it references some of the other things being added that you mentioned, in addition to turf.

It’s a no brainer for SLU to have a turf facility for baseball, and for SLU to make several other necessary upgrades in order for it to be a more competitive program.

Wash U converted to turf this year.

Nope.  But I've seen Adam Knollmeyer dunk over a trash can, no less.  I like Sheperd and Gill as athletes.  Basketball players?  Not so much.

I know you are the A 10 expert but the announcers were talking about the new foreign players. Dumphy said the same thing about their guards being athletes vs basketball players but he thinks that is a good thing.

  13. One of the problems I see with SVB or Bruce is the offense we are running. We are using our 5 at the top of the key handling the ball and screening We need to run a differnt set if they are in the game.  . Works well with TJ but I currently can't see the other 2 being good at this. Neither one knows how to set a screen without moving much less making an entry pass.
