  1. i think both sound fantastic. i would try to be in for both. p.s. while i love to play golf, it sounds like david and i would be quite the matchup! i too am a 90-100 guy that is closer to the 100 on most occassions.
  2. no way that polk will play fisherlike defense. that just wont happen. however, i do expect reggie and drejaj to play even better defensively and from what we have heard, the brown kid can body up as well. of course we havent seen that yet. i dont expect polk to score double figures, however, he will create offense and opportunities for his teamates simply because he is one of the fastest players in america. speed kills. it is an intangible we just wont be able to put numbers on.
  3. i believe our guards will be just fine. i agree fisher is a tough replace, but polk has skills galore and is just a jet. no team will match up with him in the open court. so whatever he gives away in the paint (which i dont expect him to venture there much) he will return the favor running up and down the court. even though we are getting good reviews on mr newborne, i still say our season will be made with the play of newborne and izik. they come up mediocre, the billikens will be the same. if they are top notch, this will be a great year.
  4. the point is that before we had an in. the head coach was going to help guide those kids to slu. now that head coach is gone and a new coach will come in. the odds are the new coach has no previous relationship with coach soderberg. i make no assumption those kids will go to isu. in fact, after the current kids, those kids and the new coaches will have no connection to that coach. the pipeline will just now go elsewhere. but there was no denying that in two seasons, we got two of the three best kids the program offered and the one kid of the three that didnt come had us in his final list as well. i.e. we no doubt had a pipeline going.
  5. kevin lisch is ranked though in the next 200 seniors if i remember correctly. i briefly paged through it at a borders last week.
  6. ironically though, both maxiell and withers are power forwards and not centers, and both will probably have trouble making it in the nba as they will be considered too short to be nba power forwards and neither exhibits much away from the basket.
  7. mr frericks, no idea you were a notre dame athlete. did you know rusty lisch from your college days?
  8. sheltiedave said, "he *IS* McGlother" really? wow. that is hard to believe.
  9. it is disappointing to realize that i wasted about a minute of my life watching a leprechan doing gay pushups on top of male cheerleaders.
  10. the title on the first post of the thread gave no indication it was about soccer. thus, rich opened it up and you soccer fans risked the rich degree. i know that was the only reason i opened it up. had i known it was about soccer, i never would have read it.
  11. corey, it is my belief that at best, soccer might be close to a breakeven sport. sorry, but men's basketball pays the bills and garners the most fund raising dollars.
  12. mcglother irwin said, "it seems that slu lost significantly more than its peers." maybe, or maybe bc has just raised more in recent years too. i dont have the year by year numbers and that is the way i took it from father biondi at that alumni luncheon. btw, i have always wondered, how in the world can you immortalize the likes of irwin? the loser just walked off the floor? one of the most disgusting scenarios in billiken history.
  13. actually schasz, the last line of the article says that mike linn left the department to start a private business.
  14. father biondi said it was not a matter of bad investments, just the same drop in the stock market that everyone else lost out on after 9/11.
  15. father biondi told us at an alumni lucheon the day my son went to slu last month that notre dame is the richest catholic school in the nation with a fund balance approaching like $2 billion dollars! boston college and slu are the 2nd and 3rd ranked funds and bc has a little less than 1 billion and slu has like 600 million. i.e. notre dame has WAY more.
  16. in the old days, we used to debate whether the shoemaker center in cincy was an idea facility to model an "if i could build it it would be" facility on campus. i constantly noted that the shoemaker center only had two restrooms. one on either side and when the place was packed it was hard to even go to the john.
  17. i agree with willie, if we dont include offices and practice courts all we have done is avoid paying bill laurie rent and made it easier for the students (who virtually get free tickets anyway) to come to the games. no way i spend tens of millions of dollars for that. do it right or dont do it.
  18. all mascots pale in comparison to "the billiken". thus a tree, or a wave or a ocean tide would seem silly. the sad fact of mascots, is we have one of if not the best and it isnt taken advantage of in marketing the team.
  19. i agree with bonwich. maybe crossing the taste barrier, but anything but moronic. i remember seeing the stanford band at one of the ncaa regionals that were in st louis and i was stunned, but entertained. i now smile every time i just see the words "stanford band".
  20. i believe tomorrow nite is the first billiken club meeting of the year. unfortunately, i cannot attend. my daughter has become a very good fast pitch softball pitcher for her age and has a game tomorrow nite, thus i will be attending that. if anyone attends the tipoff club meeting, i hope you report back to the board. remember all, brad cannot talk about lisch or liddell at the meetings. however he could talk in generalities about recruiting. find out if he thinks the billikens will sign a specific number of players in the fall. also, i assume someone will want to advise us on the progress of the biondidome?
  21. i agree with the tone of billiken butch's post. i respect the individual's religious belief, but unfortunately, i dont see why the world has to conform to that one person. i.e. if he/she deems it outside of their own belief to participate as the others do, then that person chooses to not play, not make the game confirm to them. i hope doug and the ncaa stick to their guns and not allow this to become a sideshow and a platform for some crazy zealot stunt.
  22. that is nuts. if i was doug, that would be enough to make me quit.
  23. actually, we are normally picked to finish near the bottom, so middle of the pack is a mark of new respect imo.
