  1. depends what your perspective is. if i am cleveland, i take lebron no question. he is a built in sell out. as to which player is truly better and might turn out the best, tough question. i think both have points of contention. lebron probably has better ball handling skills, but anthony seems to be a better mid to inside player. i dont see where either will not succeed. they might be the best one two punch in a draft since magic and bird came out together. funny thing is i kind of see their roles in the nba as similar to magic and bird. lebron as magic and carmello as bird. of course they have the score first mentality of today's player rather than the totally unselfish attitude of bird and magic that made them so refreshing, but skillwise, they are a lot alike. we will have to agree to disagree on perry's point skills. all i know is i have seen marque make outstanding passes in his 4 year career that showed his court vision is top notch.
  2. i forgot to mention that about claggett last week when i heard it. i have watched erwin at the eagles games and he really seems to be tuned into the games and making some good moves. i have heard he did as good a job as could be expected at venice considering the talent he had to work with. i know if i was a young player, i sure wouldnt mind having erwin claggett teach me how to get my own shot and score!
  3. scott warming is the early show at kfns co-host. he was interviewing chris monter (the best authority on the draft) and had discussed a few area players. chris had mentioned that brian cook from illinois was invited to the green room. right after that they discussed marque. so maybe that is how you got confused. no way marque will be in the green room. the green room is where the expected 10-15 top picks sit out the draft and come up to the podium to shake stern's hand and then get interviewed. no way marque will be included in that group. chris said this morning that marque is expecting to get an offer to come to a team free agent camp and probably play in one of the summer league's, but chris does not expect perry to get drafted. personally, while from first look you would think that perry is not a "pure" point guard, i think that is more a matter of what the offense focus of his duties were the last two years than perry not being a point guard. i know this is hard to beleive, but straight up skill wise, i agree completely with triangle on his point of marque and ford being nearly equal. there games are almost identical and if asked to be a pure point guard ala trade places with ford, i would expect perry to match ford pretty much stroke for stroke. the difference between the two is that ford is at that level as a sophomore and perry is a senior. therefore there is a percieved greater potential for ford than perry. remember terrance morris from maryland. as a sophomore he was a sure fire lottery pick. he does the noble thing though and stays in school. he does not regress a bit, however it is questioned whether he improves any over the next two years. senior draft day comes and he is no longer even close to a lottery pick. i.e. the difference between ford and perry. two years.
  4. yesterday i had the opportunity to visit the campus bookstore at slu. i was on a mission to find slu72 a suitable window decal that would accurately reflect his love of the billikens. mission failed. i thought for sure that an item such as this would be standard goods for even our bookstore. they had two window decals to pick from. one said st louis university school of law. and the other st louis university alumni. neither mentioned a billiken or had a picture of the billiken. and both were about as stodgy as one can possibly create. i asked the help if maybe there was somewhere else i was missing or something in the back, she said no. sad. just sad. well while there i decided let's check the billiken apparel selection. surely there must be something to pickup. mission failed again. ONE item in the store that was billiken blue. actually a nice billiken pullover windbreaker. only problem was my 12 year old daughter was probably too big to wear any of the 3 size M they had on the rack. everything else in the store was basically white or gray or some wild pastel shade that i wouldnt let anita wear to get her hair done in. few had the billiken on it. i just burned to see a number of shirts, pants and hats done in black and gold. slu should NEVER be in those forbidden colors. what self appreciating slu student or alumnus would even think of wearing black and gold regardless of the letters? they did have a couple of golf socks that had a billiken on the ankle and a nice shooter shot glass that had billikens on it. but overall, the stock of goods was down right embarrassing and terribly disappointing. i spent a few moments with the on duty manager explaining the need for billiken stuff and especially billiken blue apparel. she looked at me as i was talking as though i was talking in japanese. sigh......... does anyone else think we are quite alone in our fandom?
  5. again rich, i am not saying heinrich was not a good defender. he was very good. rarely out of position, extremely strong and able to hold his ground. but overall, he was not as good as kenny brown.
  6. ok, i'll play. even if he meant to say polk, i still dont see the relavance. while kevin can and should play the point for the billikens some day, if you have seen him play, you would know he is a combo guard that can score with the best of them. i.e. polk is the one that would worry about time not kevin. polk is not even close to being as complete as kevin lisch by any means. so again, i dont see the relavance. if kevin is considering illinois, oklahoma and kansas, why would competition from dwayne polk or joel shelton concern him anymore than the existing and incoming guards at the likes of those programs as well. the whole thought is stupid.
  7. what the hell does joel shelton have to do with kevin lisch and billiken recruiting?
  8. i hope we do play the missouri game and any other big games ONLY at the new arena. if the johnny come lately bandwagon jumpers dont want to see billiken basketball all the time screw em. let them watch it on charter.
  9. nate, it indeed was at the first game of the eagle tourney. the more impressive play happened in the second half after the two dunks. a loose ball about mid-court. tyler grabs the loose ball on a dead run, doesnt miss a step, dribble behind his back on a very nice go left move, and then dunks with his left hand the whole time in the company of the minnesota teams guards. wow. sold.
  10. jill recruited stephanie hard. unfortunately the players did not make a good impression. to be honest the jilliken players treated her very badly apparently on her visit and thus she left for indiana state to play with an old aau teamate. the lisch's loved jill though and love the slu campus from my understanding.
  11. nate while he is a little thin, tyler is far stronger than he looks imo. i saw an eagles game where he recieved a low post pass, turned and went over the top of a much stronger and wider inside player that was just as tall and slam the ball. it bounded off the back of the rim though and came back to tyler. in one motion he grabbed the rebound and slammed it again with two hands over the huge player again. that was the type of authority that we probably have seen at slu twice in the last 20+ years (bonner and jamal johnson). to think he will only get stronger (which he will) is actually frightening. he is big big time.
  12. nate said, "Tyler Hansbrough was dominant throughout the week." i have seen hansbrough play with the eagles and i think he is spectacular. imo he is the best player on the eagles right now. i would give up lisch for hansborough in a second.
  13. slu72 said, "Taj, do you work for the GAO?" taj works? slu72 said, "Roy, any news on the decal? I'm getting killed down here by the *****, Heels, and Blue Devils mob. Time to publicize SLU in Dixie land." just so happens my daughter is at the jilliken camp starting today. i will make a point of getting on campus early to pick her up to go look for billiken car decals. i need one for my newest ride as well. slu72 said, "Do we have any shot at this Lisch kid? He sounds like a major player? Or will Daddy send him to ND? It's awfully difficult for a good Catholic kid to reject TD Jesus and the Golden Dome." i personally dont think notre dame will be in the picture for kevin at all. first off, i am not sure how great rusty's notre dame memories are. remember, they took his starting job away and then forced him to redshirt so montana could be the starter for the 2 years notre dame had the stellar team after rusty was the starter for a year first. only after the national championship team was graduated was rusty returned to the starters job. second, notre dame did not recruit kevin's sister, stephanie, as was expected either. it is my understanding at this time the schools in on kevin are slu, kansas, illinois and oklahoma. slu72 said, "Does anyone else agree when all is said and done on the arena: Budweiser will come forward with the $$$$?" the busch family has been good to slu in the past.
  14. if polk and clarke both take major minutes from drejaj, we are in for some good times. drejaj is no slouch.
  15. personally, i think it is some pretty good stuff. i assume basketbill, 1. you are either not married with children (especially daughters like taj) or 2. you must be very busy with extremely worthwhile projects. for those of us that are 40 somethings with the fams and the choice of the magical world of disney on sunday evenings or spending a half of hour looking up the numbers and crunching them ala taj, no big deal. thanks taj!
  16. i still think the best case scenario is some kind of merger with the big east. i.e. the two conferences combine to make two new conferences that fit both needs, basketball and football. if this is done, it might alliviate some of the problems associated with creating a new conference such as exit and entry fees, no automatic bids, etc.
  17. aj, i tend to agree on pulley. after we got to see his "clank" show at slu 2 years ago, it amazes me that there is any excitement about pulley going to missouri. i just dont see where he is even the equal of chia pet and he was run out of town. if pulley is an improvement, he must have worked extremely hard on his game over the last year. as to drejaj, i will be surprised if this kid allows anyone to pass him by. he just seems to be such a hard working no quit kid. but weirder things have happened in billiken basketball.
  18. taj, he likes pepperoni pizza and the kid can put it away considering how little he is. oh to be young and a calorie burning machine again....
  19. thicks the problem with the rams becoming "dominant" has more to do with the nfl's salary cap rules. it has become very apparent that the cap rules will not allow a dynasty. a team has to choose between keeping stars and keeping quality depth. the cowboys, 49ers, broncos and now the rams have all proven it isnt possible to do. a team has to give it up and start over. the accomplishment is how fast can they rise back to the top.
  20. aj, i dont know if anyone will "abuse" anyone, but it sure would be interesting to see pulley and drejaj square off to see which player appears to be the better in two years.
  21. jordan's son, jeffrey, is one of the top incoming freshmen in the nation. thus jordan was probably there for jeffrey.
  22. what i dont necessarily agree with is the presumption that the big east will call the shots. heck, the big east is being b!tch slapped all over the place by the acc, what makes everyone so sure they will call the shots down the line? i think it is just as possible that conference usa is proactive and also could raid the big east accordingly to get what they want and convince louisville and cincy this is the place to be.
  23. nashville billiken said, "I do not see how he(kenny brown) much THAT much more athletic than Heinrich. yeah i remember hienrich getting out on the break and finishing with slams on the other end so many times in his career. geez, heinrich was a rock in the middle. i will give you all that. a space eater deluxe that held his postion. but it ends there.
  24. heinrich had a shooting touch? you guys are now letting time be kind to your memories.
