Billinikens
This is not a knock on Brad, because almost every coach in the country does this. Why is the best play a well-paid coach can draw up in the final moments is for a player to dribble around and try to create his own shot? Last night, especially in the late-going, Ian was really having success inside. With 13 seconds to go, I would have given Ian a quick touch inside, see if he can get a quick two and maybe the foul and run Kevin off of a screen to the top of the key for a kick out if necessary (or if open). Instead DP dribbles in place on the wing, chucks a prayer, and we end up in the position of KL racing up the floor to get a shot. But we were lucky even to get it back with a chance to still tie by that point.
kappy96
I gotta believe that DP taking that shot was not what they walked out of the huddle planning to do. Brad is better than than.
billiken_roy
i am betting that the play was designed for ian to get the ball and quickly score hopefully get fouled and if not, go for the inbounds steal or else foul again. gonzaga pancaked ian in the middle while polk dribbled waiting for ian to free himself. it never happened and then the shot. i personally have no problem with what happened. gonzaga should be credited for thwarting the plan. of course we coulda run the old picket fence........ bonwich
Definitive proof that Roy is, as we've always thought, a Hoosier.
crymdg2
The play was designed for Kevin. He started off on the baseline and jab stepped towards the wing and then ran down the baseline and up to the top of the key. They had Ian and someone else there setting a double screen for a shot at the top of the key. When he was running off the screen though the Gonzaga guy grabbed him and they called the foul. The next play was the one where Polk through up that shot. Soderberg did have a play on and it worked but Kevin was fouled.
BleacherBum593
Which was a smart play on Gonzaga's part - knowing that they had a foul to give.
p diddy
they ran the same play after the foul and kevin was wide open at the top of the key. dwayne should have reversed the ball and kevin would have had a wide open look at the basket. instead he made a terrible decision by trying to shoot the 3 over a bigger defender that was blocked. if he wanted to call his own number, just beat his man off the dribble and go to the basket. he'll either get a good chance or a dump off to ian with plenty of time left to set up the pressure defense and foul. dwayne had no business attempting that 3 at that juncture. bad boyz for life
