kshoe
This is certainly not a surprise... Odom to resign at Missouri; Harvey won't be back By MIKE DeARMOND The Kansas City Star COLUMBIA – Missouri men's basketball assistant coach Lane Odom is expected to resign either later today or tomorrow for his role in violations alleged in the NCAA's investigation of the men's basketball program, sources told The Star Tuesday afternoon. Associate head coach Tony Harvey has been placed on paid suspension, but sources say that Harvey will not return next season. Neither Odom nor Harvey was in his office at the Hearnes Center, and neither could be immediately reached for comment. MU officials, including head coach Quin Snyder, said they could not comment on personnel issues when the future of the two coaches was inquired about in a Tuesday morning news conference. Later in the day, MU athletic director Mike Alden said university systems president Elson Floyd had asked all MU officials to make no further comments until the university files a response to the NCAA letter of allegations on or around July 1. The university received a 22-page report from the NCAA on Monday that summarized the eight-month investigation of the program. Missouri blacked out the names of Missouri players and coaches Tuesday when it issued a release of the NCAA's 10 general allegations of rules violations – nine in the current basketball program and one in football during the tenure of former head coach Larry Smith – but potential violations previously released by the university easily linked Odom and Harvey to some of the NCAA allegations. In Odom's case, most of the allegations involved excessive phone calls involving recruiting. Odom was the main recruiter for Ricky Clemons, the focal point of the NCAA investigation into Missouri basketball. Harvey is the Missouri assistant the NCAA alleges paid Clemons $250 in a one-time cash payment. He also is linked to several relatively minor violations, including incidental contact with recruits. Additionally, Harvey is alleged by the NCAA to have “violated the principles of ethical conduct when he concealed NCAA violations from his institution,'' according to the NCAA document. The allegation of Harvey having given $250 to Clemons is, according to sources familiar with the NCAA and the MU investigations, based on Clemons' claim to the NCAA that he received the money and on a bank deposit for the same time period. Whether such circumstantial evidence is upheld by the NCAA Committee on Infractions, remains to be seen. Sources say it is one of the allegations Missouri will dispute when it goes before the committee on Aug. 13-15 in Seattle. And while Missouri will argue Harvey did not commit this violation, sources maintain Harvey's time with the program is over. Sources say Harvey previously was given an oral reprimand and a written reprimand for other conduct.
billiken_roy
my guess is that they will end up at either or the denver nuggets or the philly sixers. as most of you know, the nuggets are owned by kroenke and the sixers are run by snyder's old college teamate billy king. bauman
Can anyone really believe that an Asst. Coach would (could) give a player $250 without the Head Coach's agreement and knowledge? You better believe that any Assistants who leave due to these charges are being taken care of by someone with ties to the U of MO program. With what Asst.s make in salary they don't go around giving players $250 of their own money.
Schasz
Would fire the head man if they were caught cheating. I'll never forget the day that A-B sacked Denny Long who was a very popular Pres. of AB-I the beer marketing end of A-B when some folks in marketing were caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
