Josh Baker, the local Florida writer must be their equivalent of our former Vtime: (another article says he is six five, this one six four)

I wouldn't be surprised if we were actually looking at the KC look alike for Oldsmar Christian-Brian Pegg

2010 Hoop Mountain Fall Showcase Vol. 3

Brian Pegg

2012 – Brian Pegg, 6’6 Guard, Oldsmar Christian: Brian showed off his very high basketball I.Q. this weekend by threading the needle for numerous assists. Physically, it is apparent that Brian has added some size and muscle, as he held his own battling for rebounds against the bigger, more athletic, Dwyer High. Pegg was efficient from behind the arc, but with an improved trigger speed, he certainly would have been able to get more shots off. Brian has a high skill level, which he showed by using shot fakes to get into the lane and finish with either hand. If Pegg continues to improve laterally he could find a home at a nice mid major.

2011- Antonio Rodriguez, 6’4 Wing, Oldsmar Christian: The definition of heart and hustle would be the way to describe Rodriguez. There is not a loose ball or a rebound that Antonio does not make an effort to chase down. Rodriquez battles in the paint for rebounds, no matter the size of his opponent, and with his long arms he is a very effective on the ball defender. Antonio showed the ability to knock down the open three, and enough skill level to use shot fakes to get into the paint and finish or knock down jumpers. Rodriguez needs to continue to improve his handle so he can break guards down off the dribble.

2011- Jonathan Shouder, 6’7 Forward, Agape: Jonathan’s long wing span and high motor make him an intriguing prospect. Shouder ran the floor extremely hard, always attacking the glass looking for tip dunks. Jonathan is a slim, but athletic forward that I am interested in keeping tabs on. Didn’t see many offensive moves in the run and gun game, but definately saw some tools that are next- level worthy.

Zach Sly

2012 – Zach Sly, 5’10 Point Guard, Oldsmar Christian: Throughout the course of a game, the first thing the audience will notice about Sly is his tremendous speed. Zach effectively uses his speed and length to reek havoc on the defensive end, with steals and deflections. Sly’s strength is penetrating the lane and finishing with either hand, and with contact from the defense. Zach is a pass first point guard, and does a good job of putting all of his teammates in positions to be successful. Sly clearly prefers to attack the rim, but needs to develop an ability to knock down the open three to be coveted at the next level.

Shawn Smith

2012 – Shawn Smith, 6’4 Combo Guard, Arlington Country Day: Shawn Smith is a no brainer high major player. Smith makes big time moves on the offensive end, and uses his size and effort to hold his own on the defensive end. He is a very skilled scorer who shoots it well from deep, has a great one dribble pull u and uses crafty runners and floaters around the rim. Shawn really knows how to play the game, and plays it very unselfishly. He does a great job of getting his teammates involved and using his skill level to make his teammates better. One factor that is important to Smith is his education and playing time at the next level. Shawn currently has offers from West Virginia, Kansas State, Florida State, and Ole Miss, to go along with interest from Clemson, Missouri and Cincinnati.

2012 – Ayinde Sprewell, 6’2 Guard, Liberty High: Sprewell is the nephew of former NBA star, Latrell Sprewell, and he certainly caught some people’s attention this weekend. Sprewell is a very good athlete, with a solid body, for being only a junior. Ayinde has solid ball handling skills, along with an average shooting stroke. Sprewell is a savage, attacking the rim aggressively with determination to finish with contact. Sprewell must improve the consistency of his jump shot before his stock can rise within the college ranks.

Delron Summey

2011 – Delron Summey, 6’5 Forward, Arlington Country Day: Summey is a 6’5, athletic forward that does a great job of embracing his role, which is rebounding, defense, competing, and finishing around the basket. Delron is on a team full of mid to high major players who are focused on offense, while Summey cleans up the boards, plays defense, knocks down the open 15 footer, and finishes passes dumped off around the rim. Delron will prove a seasoned vet for the Apaches this year, and his willingness to be the blue collar player will complement the higher skill level players on Arlington Country Day’s team.

Montel Williams

2011 – Montel Williams, 6’1 Point Guard, Dwyer: Montel Williams was possibly the biggest sleeper of the fall showcase. Williams is lightning fast and really shows poise running his team. He is certainly a setup point guard with the ability to knock down the open three, and even hit a few pull up jumpers in transition. Montel always seems to make the right basketball play, not only in the half court, but in transition as well, rarely turning the ball over. Williams keeps the game simple, and really values offensive possessions. He should see his stock rise this season with his team’s success and his apparent ability to play at the next level.

2011 – Terrell Williams, 6’2 Guard, Dwyer: Williams was pretty impressive this weekend with his athletic ability and his ability to knock down consistent shots from behind the arc, and even one dribble pulls ups. Williams was a lock down defender, giving his opponent little room to breathe. Terrell surprised many with his rebounding ability from the guard spot as well. He must add a tighter handle to his game and the ability to take his defender off the bounce with an aggressive dribble move. Terrell currently has interest from Lynn, Stetson and West Point.

2011 – Quevyn Winters, 6’6 Guard, Oldsmar Christian: Winters has a very quick handle for his size, which he uses to take opponents off the bounce. The former Baylor commit, is a great scorer and does it in a variety of ways: from crafty finishes, pull-up jumpers, and hit numerous shots from behind the arc. Winters shoots it well from deep, but must improve his consistency from behind the arc to be considered a lights out shooting guard. One of Quevyn’s best assets is his feel for the game, and his ability to pass the ball. He was certainly one of the most, if not the most, impressive passer in attendance at the Hoop Mountain Fall Showcase. Athletically, Quevyn defends bigger guards very well, but he must improve his foot speed to guard smaller and quicker two’s.

I've seen this guy before. I don't know what we are doing going after a guy that needs to "lock down his academics."

I would have rather seen Christian Thomas get an offer than this guy.

Also, alleged to have had a physical altercation with a ref. Definitely some red flags.

Wouldn't they be similar players? They both seem to be 6-5 or 6-6 wings, so could this be an issue of one or the other?

Chievous and Wynters are versatile wings. Chievous started as an interior rebounder and has worked his way out too. Wynters started mid-range, better handles, etc...and worked his way inside. Wally Ellenson(2012) is a shooter first who utilizes his all state high jumping ability to be able to finish inside when needed.

I'm thinking it's one or the other too.

We need a big guy. But those are tough to find this time of year. So short of that we need to add talent, which is what it looks like we are doing. The 2012 class is going to be huge. Names of guys we are recruiting:

Jordon Granger

Patrick Ingram

Ronnie Johnson

(the above I know we have offered)

Isaiah Ivey

Jared Drew

There's a possibility its one or the other, but I don't believe that to be the case.

Landing both is probably the least of our worries at this point. We'll have two scholarships the following year even if RM fills all available scholarships this spring (Conk and KC). Uncle Brad always squeezed the scholarships tight hoping for the mythical athletic big to materialize out of thin air in the spring. It never happened. If we can land athletes who help the team with the two open scholarships, then we should do so. Can a team have too many Dwayne Evanses? Remember our running joke last season that the starting lineup should be Jett, McCall, Evans, Evans, and Evans. I'm down with signing a player (or two) this spring that RM thinks is another DE.
