Jett

are these limping players badly injured?

Both played well in limited minutes; obviously PE got some of JJ minutes with left leg sprain or cramp keeping him out of most of 2nd half.

Anyone know will they take night off versus Chicago State?

I edited out the point of JJ being a beast and needing a 3pt shot and better ball control. My real point. Anyone know about these two guys injuries?

With his speed I see JJ as a faster Femi. But, again, Femi lacked a good jump shot and no three point shot was apparent.

Please comment if you know of their injuries and whether they will rest against Chicago State. If they do rest will Loe and other guards be too tired for our next game?

What.makes you think JJ can learn to shoot 3pointers? He has the worst looking shot of any Billiken I can recall. He's probably been shooting that style all his life. I doubt he's going to change it now.

I do believe he said "if". I agree with you, it's a long shot. He's got all of the tools to be a very good pass-first PG in this league. The 3's are extra as far as I'm concerned.

JJ is going to be a beast if he controls turnovers and learns the 3 point shot

hmmmm. rickma said saturday about jett,

"Majerus was talking after the game about how everyone on the team is a battler, except, he said, for Jett. "He doesn't have that fire in his belly yet."

GOSLU68 said "if he (Jett) controls the turnovers and learns the 3 pt. shot." Can't you say that about anybody ... from even 8th grade on up? Hell, if I could crap gold bricks, I might be a millionaire.

I think you are right, that Jett can be a "pass-first" point and a good one. Problem is that if you don't develop a respectable outside shot, the defense ignores you on the pump fake, making your ability to drive-and-dish all the more limited. We have seen that as recently in the A10 as Lamont Warren at Dayton, JuJuan Harris at Charlotte and Garret Williamson at St. Joe's. One can also think Dwayne Polk here with our own Billikens.

Jett might not need the three point shot but he definitely needs the mid-range shot from the line to the free throw extended area. Just to be a viable option that requires coverage. Again, dominoes. Plus, he needs to really become aces at the free throw line. A point should have the ball in his hands 90% of the time at close out time. This usually means fouls and free throws. In my book, a point HAS to shoot over 80% at the line. A perfect point would average 8 to 10 ppg, 8 apg, 3 rpg, shoot 85% from the line and have a 2- or 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

My three point guys are on the wings .... and with Ellis and Loe shooting out of the four hole, the point's need to be a bomber from beond the arc is lessened. Still good to have, just not essential. In a perfect domino world, a three-point specialist at the point would make any team all the more formidable ... especially if the two, three and four can all stroke it. More options are always better.

But restrictions can be balanced. Needing a three to tie with Loe, Ellis, McCall and Mitchell on the floor, who do you slack off on?

If you take out JJ's 3 point attempts (0-14), he is shooting 28-63, which is approximately 44%. Between his drives to the hoop, pull up floaters and mid-range shot (he seems pretty ok on these from what i've seen, although it is an ugly shot), he seems to be pretty effective from 2-point range.

Totally agree on his FT shooting.

Thanks for providing those numbers. It confirms what I have thought about Jett from observation. He has hit a number of mid-range shots off the dribble and pass, in addition to his drives to the basket. He shouldn't take it at this point, but his poor shooting has been overstated. He has an unorthdox shot, but so did Marque Perry. By the time Marque was a junior and senior, he became more comfortable shooting the three. A lot of people also said Kwamain had an ugly looking shot as a freshman. Nobody talked about it his sophomore year. I expect his biggest weaknesses, turnovers and shooting 3s, to be reduced over time.

classic shooter vs junkballer? If it goes in I don't care if it rolls up over the near rim. He has great body control and wonderful vertical as well as horizontal extension. If he cuts down on the t/o I give him the same pass DE is getting for not shooting the 3. If KM could rebound we should expect no less attention to the ball from MM and JJ.

Biggest problem I have seen from JJ is passes to CR below the waist-he can't handle them
