Look for a bigger/better Fire Brad sign Wednesday

Recommended Posts

Your post is riddled with factual errors and presumptions, albeit tangentially made, about the A) ages of people who passionately and vociferously suppport the program, B) the money that certain younger fans provide to the program, and C) the incomes of people who support Brad. However, I agree with one thing wholeheartedly..."it is about time something about this programs gets mean" only I think we are talking about two completely different things.

Note: The Supreme Court's ruling with respect to freedom of expression is multi-faceted.

GREAT IDEA! Ok how about this, let's go ahead and discount the opinions and thoughts of any recent grads because theyre too busy paying off loans after providing 30k a year to the school, JUST BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE SOME EXTRA CASH LYING AROUND TO THROW AT A LOSING PROGRAM! Wonderful idea...maybe instead of doing that, say 'hey SOMEDAY BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, you'll be our middle aged fan base that will be in a financial situation to support the team'

It is the fault or responsibility of recent grads or younger fan that they cannot donate financially. If they completed 4 years at SLU, you figure they could be up to 120k in the hole. Most are probably under that, but they are now trying to pay rent/mortgages, insurance, and car payments on their own for the first time in their life, making what is probably in the 30-50k range. Not the best time to budget a thousand or so for the basketball program.

Young fans become old fans someday! Although I am sure you were donating to the team when you were in diapers..

Just cause a few fans hate the pass loses, then even some top 10 teams coachs with upsets would be out of a job. Quit your winning your not the Ad of saint louis, so it not your job to worry about it. Worry if this keep happening okay.

Use some for that sign ideas for the other team, that all we need is for the team to think we have giving up on them. I think this is a reality check for us, we thought we were all-that and could play sloppy.

Well look what happen, so we go back to the basic and open up a can of woop-ass.

Cry me a f*****g river!

Here's an idea - instead of taking four years drinking and skating your way through college, take extra hours, test out, take summer classes and graduate in three years saving yourself a year of tuition. And, while you are at it, get two jobs at a time to pay for your tuition instead of piling up loans. Then, maybe, you will have the discipline and the experience to get a good job and start contributing right away. Oh, and there is nothing to say that you cannot volunteer at the school a few hours a week in addition to or at least in place of your monetary contributions.

Life is full of choices. Just because you may have made poor ones don't take it out on others who didn't.

Not sure why you are so bitter and jealous of older and/or more successful alumni, but like it or not they support the program and have a right to an opinion even if YOU don't like it.

This nonsense doesn't really deserve a reply, but I have some extra time so you get lucky. You are obviously out of touch with the reality of 90% of student body. Many have mom and dad pick up the tab. Many have some sort of scholarship/grant that pays for a lot but have to pick up the rest of the tab, and many don't get much and still have to pick up the tab. Your scenario is virtually impossible, but I'm sure youll claim that you did it.

I am not crying about having to pay loans, because I did get a good job and am able to support the program, not to the extent of most, but Rome wasnt built in a day. Not that it is really any of your business to begin with, and i refuse to enter your pissing contest you want to start. However, your attitude is idiotic. Plain and simple. You are a fool.

You cannot alienate the young fan base. Thats the point. Saying "you have no right to have an opinion because you dont financially support the program" is complete hogwash horseshit. That is the absolutely WORST stance a team can take. Look what happened to Oldsmobile. Their main clientele was age 60+, and now where is that brand? Dead.

You lose the young fan, your program will fail. Attendance is down for the last how many years? Is student attendance down for the past how many years? See any relation there? You always have to replace old with new. You may not know this, but people do get old, people do die, and people do move away/along/etc. Just keeping you up to date..

My program would encourage the young fan to be involved, whether it be financially or not. What happens if one of these fans that your program has alienated becomes CEO of a large corporation in 20 years? You may not know this, being so out of touch with reality, but CEO is not exactly a right out of college job opening. It takes most people decades to become the big booster writing checks for players type.

I'm not saying these fire brad signs or whatever are a good idea. Thats each individuals choice, not yours. But to say that just because somoene is young and doesn't have "writing ANOTHER check to slu for basketball team" on the top of their list of priorities is absolutely ridiculous. And I'd personally say that they have their priorities straight.

And yes free speech works both ways, but forcibly taking someones sign out of their hands is assault. I hope anyone who has or has had something happen to them like that has said person escorted from the arena and arrested. Better bring a pillow, I've heard from some of my drunk boozehound friends that the city jail isn't comfy, because that's what I did my time at SLU. Big beers at humphreys!

It is safe to say, barring no interruptions, there will be a much bigger "Fire Brad" sign at Wednesday nights game if we have to hear another "billiken short" or "quick hit" scouting report on the jumbotron by Brad.....telling me how great every single team we play is, and how it will be an incredible challenge to hold their leading scorer who averages 8 points a game in check, and how their center might be a bad matchup for our future NBA draft pick.

Sorry for the run on.

Do you really crave that much attention that you would stoop to the level of holding a "fire Brad" sign?

I may not be too happy with the events of the last two games but the thought of someone at the games holding a sign supporting firing our coach turns my stomach. I feel that anyone holding that sign is lucky that I live out of town because I don't think that I would react too well to a SLU fan acting in such a way. If the person was sitting in the student section it makes it even worse.

Don't do it. It is not funny or cute or revolutionary. It is just the dumbest idea I have ever heard put forth on this board and that is saying alot.

I completely agree. You go to the games to cheer on your team, not to try to get your teams coach fired or make fun of the players on your team who aren't good. It is a shame that because some yahoo makes a sign or a website, it overshadows the real fans who just want the team to win.

>Many have mom and dad pick up the tab.

Sorry, I wasn't that lucky.

>Your scenario is virtually impossible, but I'm sure youll claim that you did it.

Ask anyone who knows me.

>Saying "you have no right to have an opinion because you dont financially support the program" is complete hogwash horseshit.

I NEVER said anything like that - I was responding to your dissing fans who you don't like because they are older and your presumptions about what some in-between (30's and 40's) do or don't do for the team.

>forcibly taking someones sign out of their hands is assault.

You are right, but holding up competing signs right next to these kids that may hit home, VERY, VERY close to home, may open their spoiled little eyes. You know the saying about those who live in glass houses....

>But to say that just because somoene is young and doesn't have "writing ANOTHER check to slu for basketball team" on the top of their list of priorities is absolutely ridiculous.

Again with making things up...who said that. Please identify the time, date, and name of the post/poster.

Bottom line: if the "young" fan base is going to do everything within their power (boo the team, hold up negative signs, set up WEB SITES!!!!) to denigrate and destroy the coach, the players, and the older fans, then WE DO NOT NEED THEM. Their efforts will not have a material impact on any decisions to retain or fire Brad, however, they sure as hell will impact the players and coaches in a NEGATIVE way, not to mention any recruits at the game (who wants to play for a team where the home court is a hostile environment???). IF that is what they want, then they will be successful, but that is sick, sick, sick and reeks of spoiled little children who learned to get their way by kicking and screaming louder than anyone else.
