SLU Women's Soccer Thread
Lord Elrond replied to SLUBillikens.com's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
7-1 exhibition win over Wash U (D3 champs). Hard to keep track with all the new players. GK time was split 45 min/45 min between Emma Parker (trans from Arkansas) in the 1st half, Nimu Kamani 2nd half. Goal was given up in the 1st half, looked to be a little confusion in the defense. Players who looked like they played very good to me: Rylee Howard, Hope Kim, Julia Simon, Hannah Larson, Audrey Smith, Jordan Gary, Camille Welker, Caigen Leonard, Sarah Sarnowski. Lots of good offensive pressure and good passing to score the goals. -
We haven’t lost anyone else to the portal, so there’s a positive. As for additions,

4-3 win over Bradley, not sure much can be taken from this, but I liked the movement on offense, and the way the lines connected. All goals were on the run of play. Defensively a goal or two looked soft, but plenty of time to work on stuff. Great weather at Hermann Stadium.

Gotta say I like the jerseys for the men’s team. Blue and white strips, with a subtle light blue sash on the front.

So what you are proposing is a transfer fee like in soccer?

The new president takes over July 1st, I believe.

Departing Billiken Players via the Portal - 2025

I would guess he or his lawyers see a way to get the year of eligibility back. How it will turn out I can’t begin to guess -

UConn wins again

Yeah, but right now, no one else on the team is a point guard other than Bel Tillett, none of the incoming freshmen are point guards either. There still is time to get players, the women’s side seems a lot slower in action than the men’s side. But let’s get going.

I thought the new rule was a hard limit of 15, including all scholarships and walk ons in that limit? I thought the purpose was to prevent teams from loading up with players. Or am I mistaken? Or, is it like everything else the past few years, just a court case away from completely changing?
-
Question: with the new 15 man limit on the roster, are we now at the limit including walk ones from last year? Does this mean a new player coming on via the portal requires us to push someone off the roster? Is there a date the roster has to be in compliance by? Just wondering.

Trey Green and Dion Brown in the fold per Stu

You sir are a true Billiken fan! -
There is room on the roster for a defensive roll player, so that’s fine. Tillett needs to bring in multiple high quality offensive players. This announcement would have gone down better if a couple of really promising offensive players were announced prior to announcing Jada Tiggett. I don’t want to let my own frustration with the roster crisis get in the way of welcoming a player who could help us.
-
Good point, I’d like to know that too
-
Well, if Coach Tillett thought this announcement would calm down the fan base…

A occasional starter, but mostly a backup on the #341 NET team in the NCAA. She compares to Marcavia Shavers, a much better shot blocker than Shavers (61 blocks, one of the best in the MEAC vs 3 for Shavers, but not as good a shooter percentage wise last year (Tiggett slash .407/.235/.606, Shavers slash .491/.000/.547) Note: Shavers never attempted a 3. Tiggett got exactly the same number of rebounds (117) as Shavers last year, but took about 100 more minutes of playing time to do it.

If we’re going for players who lit up the scoreboard like a Christmas Tree against us at Chaifetz last season, when do we see Woody “Fig” Newton from GM make a visit to campus? He torched us for 27 pts on 8-12 from 3pt, as I recall…
-
May just be my impression. The A10 for the men ha become a one bid league, and I don’t see that changing the way things are going, so any discussion otherwise just seems delusional.
-
I hear you, but I keep reading the posts on the men’s side, where the common opinion seems to be that winning the conference tournament is all but impossible. Tillett did that, something no women’s coach has ever done here before. Then, we won the WNIT, while only playing 1 home game, 4 away games, and 1 neutral site game, 6 wins in a row. I don’t think those accomplishments are signs of a bad coach. I do think it’s possible that her message to her team has gotten stale or changed over time. 4 Longwood players followed her to St Louis, which I took at the time as evidence she could gain player loyalty. The past two years, this year in particular, with players leaving, there’s not much evidence of that same loyalty. Right now I’d say she needs to deliver on getting better players. But this is the Show-Me State, so I’m not going to get too excited on who she gets or doesn’t get, I’ll judge by results on the court next year.
-
Of the ones who left with eligibility remaining, Tiera Simon is the one who bugs me most that there was no way to keep her. The only player in the A10 with more rebounds and eligibility left other than Tiera Simon is Laura Ziegler. Tillett is going to find a better player than Simon in the portal? Fine, I’m holding her to her word on that.
-
I would love to know who she’s specifically referring to, but we’re not going to be told that. Nicastro and Connor did very well with their new teams this year after leaving. I think I will keep track of where this year’s players end up and how well they do at the new teams.

Yeah, people will still be talking to each other and negotiating deals the entire time of the “dead period”. What’s the NCAA going to do about it?

Grades for Coach Schertz's First Season
Lord Elrond replied to TheA_Bomb's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Were expectations too high for this team? I do think we’re on the way up with Coach Schertz
