i have nowhere near the tenure of Roy but being a Detroit sports fan really prepared me for Billiken fandom hahahaha nothing will ever compare to somehow rooting for the early '00s Tigers teams

But, but you had the Russian 5 and multiple Cups only a few years before that  😥 (I mean that's assuming you're a hockey fan)

Sounds like someone could be in line for a Presidential Scholarship at his father's alma mater.

I mean, yeah he'd definitely make it if he didn't get an athletic scholarship, his credentials are out the wazoo and he has the connections (unfortunately the most important part as I found out that weekend).

"the journey is the reward" was a motto of late SLU assistant Ford Stuen.  The team sort of adopted it as their motto this season.  I don't take anything from both players using it in these announcements other than they like the saying, want to honor Stuen in some way & have probably heard it a million times.

Was not aware of that. I know it's a bit of a hackneyed phrase outside of the sports world, but if it was an unofficial team motto this season, I withdraw my reading into the announcements.

I lol'ed at "whelmed." You don't hear that much. Usually under or overwhelmed but people aren't often just whelmed.

In addition to what @Admanalready said, I'm on Reddit a lot and I've seen folks use it quite a bit, so I thought I'd jump on the train, lol. I definitely would like this to be an overwhelming hire, but I'm tempering my expectations, hence "whelmed" 😅

Little more information on Jackson-Durrett from: https://texassports.com/staff-directory/dionnah-jackson-durrett/1453

Played for Parkway HS, the land thieves, in Israel, and WNBA, then assistant at SEMO, George Mason, then into MSU with Vic Schaefer before moving to Austin with him.   Is the primary coach of the guards/Associate Head Coach.  I estimate her to be 39 years old.

So knows A10, knows MO and probably loves Imo's Pizza, T-ravs and celebrates Nelly's entire catalog.   Texas is still in the tournament so don't expect a move for another week or so.

Ok holy cr*p reading over her bio, she's my standard now. Anything less will be disappointing.

If they are making a serious commitment to the women’s program, I think this job would be attractive to her. I think the job is more attractive than we think if they are really going to commit the resources.

I hope they are, but I'm ready to be whelmed at whomever they get. Lisa Stone set the bar high. The proverbial ball is in the AD'S court to make a hire that's going to get us back in the national spotlight and beyond a la the Sadie/Jackie/Kerri/Olivia/Holy Sh*t our team is stacked days.

Did you think you were filling out a football bracket?
Honestly I’d much rather see this than someone going chalk in the final 4.

I don't know if you like me or hate me for this but I have Illinois winning it 🤷‍♂️ and I really just hate putting a lot of 3s and above in the Final Four because it feels too obvious. I know 'Bama had a pretty good season, and I don't know much about LSU, but I like LSU so why not? 😂 I wanted to do a sleeper bracket, but it straight up failed.

I like how we give Ford multiple passes but Stone doesn't get any.

Trainwreck, non entity, irrelevant, intramural, dumpster fire.  This is what Stone came into.  She built the program from scratch.  She's the women's version of Rich Grawer, but a much better coach.

Stone's staff turnover has been ridiculous.  She has no operating budget.  Her staff budget has gone up 10% in 10 years.  This leads to player morale low, which leads to transfers and player development issues.

May making those statements today is ridiculous.  He better pony up the cash.  A coach with a better pedigree than Stone is coaching for a BCS school and making 700k-1mil per year with Assts making 150k-200k.   Our budgets are now where near that.  His statements reminded me of empty Biondi posturing.

Tall task to find a coach better than Stone who would coach for SLU.  Good luck Chris.  I hope he makes a Majerus hire, or even a Ford but I think it will be a Soderberg if we are lucky.

In this case if we financed our program at a BCS level, we'd win.  Our budgets are middle of the road A10 and our results on the floor match them.

My sentiments exactly, Torch. You're more eloquent than I am, plus this news bummed me out too much to be objective today, so any lengthy post I made would have been rambling.

This means they have raised the expectations for the women's program higher than they have ever been.  It is now time to hold May accountable for those expectations throughout the athletic program.

Preach ^ and also give the women's program the resources to meet those expectations and put the same standard on the men's program.

Given the history of the women's program the floor that Stone raised was arguably higher than what the ceiling had been prior to her arrival.  The team was devastated by injuries this year & I don't put blame on Stone for them having a poor season.

I hope this means brining in a coach who continues to raise the bar & as others have said giving that coach the necessary resources to succeed.

@billikenfan05 could probably put this better, but how the heck does Lisa Stone lose her job while Kent Miller continues as volleyball HC.  Comparing the history of the programs & their respective HC records, it is kind of baffling.

Hoping this is a message to Travis Ford as well as other HCs in SLU athletics that good / better than the teams have been historically isn't necessarily good enough.

For some of the reasons you stated above, this firing is going to bug me all day. Coach Stone knew and remembered me when I talked to her, you can't buy that personal touch. I'm just hoping they can find someone who is as down to earth while elevating the program.

I'm not going to fault her for never making an NCAA Tournament. The program had 3 winning seasons in the 25 seasons prior to her taking on the job. Given that track record, the success she had is pretty remarkable. That said, I understand the university wanting to move on, especially given the lofty goals Chris May laid out for the program in his quote in the press release.

This ^ but getting to an NCAA Tournament is going to start with providing the resources to get there. I'm hoping that they provide them.
