  1. The NCAA RPI has us at 197 today. George Mason is 182, so win or lose there won't be too much movement for either team. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-rpi
  2. Here are your top10 draft picks from 1998 along with the number of years played in the NBA. Olowokandi (9), Bibby (14), LaFrentz (10), Jamison (16), Carter (17), Traylor (7), Jason Williams (12), Hughes (13), Nowitzki (17) and Pierce (17). It's quite easy 17 years down the road to say Nowitzki, Carter and Pierce should have been 1-2-3 and Olowokandi and Traylor should have not been even top 10. But it is impossible to say Hughes would have been drafted higher or lower had he attended another school besides SLU. Two possible asteriks would be KU where LaFrentz and Pierce had the spotlight, and NC where Jamison and Carter lead the show.
  3. KC or Memphis for the Regional.....SWEET! The, by then, 17 year old Honda can make either site.
  4. Assistants of Cheaney and Carrawell....nice. And just think, a squad of Carrawell and Cheaney at forwards, with Crews and Bronson walking up the ball, and Danny Brown on the boards, likely could take on any five of our scholarship players and give them a solid game!
  5. Carrawell is an assistant at Marquette. He was teammates with Coach Wojo. I believe he was an assistant in the D-NBA before this gig.
  6. Sophomores can transfer (that is what Ash did) and juniors can transfer (or graduate). I don't want anyone to leave, but just sayin' you can look at the full roster is you are looking at someone possibly leaving. Right now, no new guards are coming in and two unknown quality 'post players' are coming. We are losing Manning, Glaze is TBD, so to me the 4 and 5 slots are where I look for future playing time being highly contested and thus a higher potential for the 'after season discussion'.
  7. The #5 draft pick this past season was Dante Exum from Australia. Graduated from HS and then played one year in low pro ball in Aussieland. You think he should have come to play at KU or KY or Duke instead? He did just fine without the challenge of NCAA ball. Pro scouts don't give bonus points for where you play after HS. They give $$ for the potential they see in the playe.
  8. According to the link, (scroll to the bottom), Larry Hughes earned $84,845,538 in his 13 years in the NBA. He was the 8th pick of the 1998 draft. So a local player, playing one year at SLU, earned almost $85 million. The question is, would Larry had made more if he had gone one year to Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Missouri, or any other (now) Power 5 school. It is impossible to say either way, but with my Blue and White glasses, I think not. He would have been a component on other teams, and not necessarily the main man. The Sixers likely draft him 8th no matter where he attended. His draft position would not have improved at any other school. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hughela01.html But now, after his career is over, Larry is acknowledged as a local hero. Would he be in Lawrence Kansas, or Durham NC? Likely he would be just one of the many, and nothing special as he is here. Mr. Tatum, the money will be there. Stay home.
  9. The only two options you can think of are fouling at the FT line or let him go to the bucket? Wow.
  10. Yeah, I caught that too. Hilarious. That puts SLU in Ferguson? They also thought we had a two shot foul coming on the first long inbound pass. On the inbounds passes, I think Roby did a much better job getting the ball in than Ash. Ash threw it away on two consecutive inbounds in the second half. From the stats, it looks like those were listed as Team TO's, but they should have been on Ash.
  11. That would be a really, really, really dumb thing to do. Intentionally foul the opponent in a tie game with 2 to 3 seconds left, which was about the time when Graham passed the FT line. Did you watch the game or are you making this up?
  12. Really you are blaming Manning for that???? Uh, okay. I saw a different game.
  13. That was the key moment of the game. Roby perhaps could have stopped him or at least slowed him down, but he wasn't on him. Ash plain got beat, but as you said Graham is a stud.
  14. Reggie and Gillmann let the front end of those second half one and ones get away. Two, three, or four more points, different game.
  15. So far Billikens of the first half are Agebeko and McBroom. McBroom is handling Havoc nicely. He dribbles with a purpose. Reggie's paint moves were nice.
  16. What scares me is that McBroom and Crawford are the only two ball handlers who have played against the VCU press. Crawford got in 6 minutes at Richmond and none at home last year. McBroom got in 40 minutes in the two games. So we will be going into Havoc with very, very little hands on experience.
  17. Interesting explanation from Alden on how the partial scholarship sports are to be handled. Missouri is looking at a $3K allowance. (Is that enough for bail?) The $3,000 annual stipend applies only to athletes in the so-called headcount sports — sports where athletes receive full scholarships, not partial scholarships. At MU, the headcount sports include football, men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics and women’s volleyball. The other sports — softball, baseball, track and field, etc. — are considered equivalency sports, where each team receives a set number of scholarships and they’re split among the team members at the coaches’ discretion. In the equivalency sports, an athlete who’s on a 20-percent athletic scholarship can receive up to 20 percent of the cost of attendance figure. “If that number is $3,000, then that person would be eligible for $600 toward the full cost of attendance,” Alden said.
  18. Could happen! Yes, born and raised in Indy, a fan of IU, but didn't go there. I understand that the cost of living in Lexington KY is expected to skyrocket next year. It could be upwards of $25K to live and attend the U of K.
  19. I know at one point in history, soccer had a set number of scholarships that was less than the full squad, of which they could divide up to 1/2 rides, 1/4 rides etc. This was perhaps a decade ago, so I don't know if that is still the case. If it is, then it would be interesting as to how the attendance $$ would be divided up. Yes kshoe, cost of living is likely higher in STL than Oleans, NY. DC and NY (okay, it's Fordham we're taking about here) would be two possible exceptions.
  20. As expected, the P5 passed the proposal to aid student athletes with financial aid. The big question now is, how much. The proposal did not specify amounts. I am assuming that the A-10, along with the other major, not P5 conferences, will adopt this package. Here is what might happen. SLU offers a full ride, plus a $3000 per year attendance package. (Numbers are being made up.) George Washington offers the same package plus $5000, as it is more expensive to live in DC than in St. Louis. So the athlete basically has a $3K v $5K offer on the table. How many HS juniors and seniors know the concept of 'cost of living index'. How many grab $5K over $3K, simply because it is more? This will be interesting to follow as it develops.
  21. Spot on. Milik needs to spend the offseason working on his 15 to 21 foot jumper. He is 3 of 15 from the arc. He needs to be glued to Coach Cheaney this offseason. If anyone can teach the mid range jumper, it is him.
  22. Really? It's your statement. I want to know what substitution pattern needed to be done. It sounds like you really don't have anything firm, just want to complain. Go to the box score, game flow. It is on the Billiken website. It has all the substitutes. Tell me which ones you would have done differently to alter the outcome of this game.. Here is the link to the gameflow. Go to work. http://www.slubillikens.com/fls/27200/MBB/201415/stats/18DAY.HTM
