I saw Welmer once in HS and followed him thru the Columbus Republic newspapaer. He played with his back to the basket, yet did connect on a few three's. He had decent rebounding numbers (for high school) but had a little trouble from the FT line......(sounds like he'll fit in.) He was second on the team in scoring, behind Josh Speidel who was a junior at the time. I think he has the size and talent to be a 4 if someone can take the 5. He will need to add muscle, as just about every 4/5 we have recruited needs. He was listed at 210 lbs going into this season. It is hard to equate his defense in HS to what it needs to be in college. His HS, Columbus North, was in the top class of Indiana HS, so he played against decent competition. I have tried unsuccessfully to find out how he is doing at Bridgton Academy.

For those who are stat-heads, two freshmen have made appearances on the Freshman Class Season list. Yarbrough has tied Darryl Anderson for 10th on total rebounds. At his current pace he should end up 7th or 8th. Yarbrough is currently 10th on rebound average, knocking Cody Ellis off the top 10...at least for now. Malik is currently tied with Cody Ellis for 10th on the scoring average list, but averages will change game to game. Miles Reynolds is currently 4th on the FT % freshman list. Malik is currently 11th on Freshman FG%. A few 6 for 10's and he climbs up the list. A few 2 of 10's and he goes down. If Crawford makes 7 more FT this year, he will appear on the Sophomore FT % season top 10 list. His current .811 would put him 5th. McBroom is sitting at 5th for the All Class Record for % 3's. [sLU doesn't track 3% for individual classes.] But if he goes 0 for 6, he falls off the list. McBroom is currently tied with Lisch for 7th on the Career 3 % list.

The last decent Air Craft Carrier we had here was maybe Reed, if you call him an Aircraft Carrier, and then Vouyoukas. Loe wasn't what I call an Aircraft Carrier. He wasn't a banger. Conklin was a banger, but not big enough to be an Aircraft Carrier. I'm talking about a protypical 5 in the center hole, not a misplaced power forward.

Media reports say that Fox is going to bid on the Big Ten package that currently is owned by ESPN when it is up for negotiation in two years. If Fox gets a piece of the Big Ten, guess which channel gets the Big East game when there is a conflict with a Big Ten game, Fox Sports, FS1 or FS2?

We only had 11 scholarship players on the roster last year. Ash was #12 and he was sitting out. There were many posters wanting more time for Crawford, Lancona and Agbeko last year.

I seriously doubt it too. Butler renovated Hinkle but that was in the works prior to their joining the Big East. They haven't significantly increased the profile or funding of their non-revenue sports at all. Fox Sports seriously needs viewers. I would think Dayton would be a solid city to look at. The marketplace overlaps geographically but not realistically. Very few Cincy TV's tune in Dayton games, and likely the same in Dayton for Xavier games. Cincy is a multi-college team city, with supporters for Kentucky, Cincinnati, Xavier and Ohio State. So on a good day the Cincy market is fractured. Dayton would be OSU or the Flyers. I wouldn't be surprised if Dayton TV ratings were better than Xavier's. But yes, Xavier holds the trump card. It seems to me that they would welcome a rival to their party.

Last year we played an eight man rotation: Loe, Evans, McCall, Jett, Barnett, Glaze, Manning and McBroom. The board complained. "Why aren't the freshmen playing?" This year we are playing 12 and the board is complaining, "Why do we have to play everyone?" OK, what is the number that most pleases this board? It has to be 9, 10, or 11. I'm curious.

I know Majerus had Senior Night after the game. Coach Crew's coach, Coach Knight, always had it after the game also. That likely is where Coach Crews got his idea.

I have never seen a lane violation called on the first shot of a two shot foul. The announcers said Reynolds was in the lane. He was in the third position on the lane. I cannot verify if he was or wasn't, be if he was, WHY??

Any player who graduates and has a year of eligibility can transfer to another school (that offers a master's program not offered at the current school) and play immediately. The question you likely are asking has to do with their academic progress, are they on track to graduate this spring. Only Doctor B could give a valid opinion on that.

TO's the story of this game. At least the boys kept playing through the end. Reynolds, Roby and Agbeko earned their bus ride today. Ready to anoint Reynolds as starting PG?
