These numbers are from 2013-2014: Jett, 31.6 mpg, McCall 30.0, Evans 29.6, Loe 27.7, Barnett 24.2, McBroom 21.5, Glaze 12.9 and Manning 11.9. Today we have 9 players averaging double digit minutes ranging from Bishops 32.2 mpg to Johnson's 15.6 mpg.

2017-2018 Season, A New Hope

You are right on Lancona. He signed a LOI with Washington State but was released prior to starting school in somewhat of a controversy between his Dad and the WSU Coach. So not exactly a straight up HS, not a transfer, just a 'Lancona'. McBroom came in as a double digit scorer from Central Michigan and was on the MAC All Freshman team. -

Thanks. Agree with what you and Cowboy have said. Yacoubou, McBroom, Lancona, Barnett, etc., were are 'billed' as solid game changers. That is the problem with transfers. Every transfer coming in is a highlight film while every transfer going out is a wasted scholarship. I too think the development of the freshmen, and you almost have to include Carter in the group of freshman, will play a large role in the angle of the up arrow next year. -

SShoe, here is a serious question. (I'll ignore Soderball's passionate flame throwing.) Exactly what are the 'billings' for these three, and who was the author of the billings. I look at numbers to tell me the story. Each of these three have two years of stats. So these numbers should be the baseline with the arrows hopefully pointing up. Here is what the numbers say. Bess, 44% shooter, 18% behind the arc, 53% FT, average of 2.9 ppg, 2.5 boards, and 0.8 assists per game. It was Ohio U or SLU when he transferred. Not sure what 'glue guy' means. Foreman, 46% shooter, 53% FT, 5.9 ppg average, 24 career blocks, and 4.3 rebounds per game. Similar numbers to Agbeko. Henriquez, 41% shooter, 38% 3 pointer, 73% FT, 10.4 ppg, 3.2 boards per game, and 2.0 assists per game. Certainly will be a threat from outside. -

It's a fricking message board. None of this is important in the big picture of Billiken basketball. It's just Billiken fans expressing meaningless opinions and blowing off some steam. -

You will be highly criticized for not throwing Bishop under the bus. Soderball knows for a fact that Bishop will transfer at the end of this year. I for one, think your post is on point. I also think Coach Ford will do what he thinks is best for the team, and perhaps not what this board of experts wants. -

So all of this is just your opinion. That is fine. This is a message board, so anything goes. I think we need to let Coach Ford set the lineup for next year. And I hope he recruits over all of the players he has sitting on the bench in sweats this year. Any coach worth a paycheck is always looking for better talent. Sure we will have more transfers out. Every program does. But I thought maybe you knew something no one else did, having spoken to Ford or Bishop, but guess not. -

2. Did Coach tell you this in a private meeting? Did you two tell Elliott he won't be starting next year? 3. Where did Jermaine tell you he was going to transfer? Or did Ford tell you this in the same conversation where he said Welmer wouldn't be starting. You seem to know quite a bit more than most of us. Who is your source? -

Graves is a combo guard. His senior HS stats plus his slim college resume indicate he is not a prolific passer. At BC, 1.6 assists per game, 1.6 TO per game. His HS senior stats, 2.2 assists per game, 1.9 TO per game. Decent 3 point shooter, 36% at BC and 38% in HS. I see him as a solid guard off the bench next year. -

We agree. As I said in my first post, we don't have a true PG on next year's roster. We don't have a PG and we don't have a true rim enforcer. Right now, those two jobs default to Bishop and Welmer, based on past + current stats. There are holes in next year's roster. Rebounds will continue to be a challenge. Foreman hopefully can replace Agbeko's boards. French, can he replace or hopefully improve on Crawford's rebounding? His strength is reported to be defensive rebounding, but time will only tell. How many rebounds can we pencil in for Goodwin? Bess is not a rebounding F/G, nor a scorer, nor a passer based on his MSU stats. -

I don't agree with your opinion of the value of assists. With a up tempo offense, the assists will become more important. Without assists, what you have is a bunch of one on one plays. Right now Bishop is averaging 4.7 assists per game. If we don't have a PG that can beat out Bishop, then I'm not sure what we have. Today, there are over 70 NCAA ballers that average over 5.0 assists per game. Watson is leading the nation at 9.3 and Ball is next at 8.1. Both of those ballers have immensely helped elevate their teams to top 10 status. There are over 100 players averaging 4.5 or higher assists. That is nearly 1/3 of the NCAA teams. Not a lot to ask for a Billiken to be in the top 1/3 of the nation in assists. -

You need to put at least one major injury into your formula. This year it is Bishop, last year Yarbrough. It is inevitable that a key player will go down for a stretch. You need 10 to tango. slu72, I agree we need a rim enforcer. Foreman has only 28 blocks in his two year career. Welmer, in 13 games has 17 blocks. French is an unknown as far as 'enforcer'. We still don't have a true point guard, one capable of delivering an average of 4.5 to 5 assists per game, but i guess Ford will run with a group of combo guards. If the group of combo guards can deliver 15 to 18 assists per game, that will hit the target. -
Goodwin isn't good enough to play for Marquette. Good thing he signed with SLU.
-
Agree. 1.6 assists per game isn't very good. Quiting 12 games in doesn't say much either. How long would he last at his next stop?
-
That's not a list, it's more like a book.

GDT: 12/22/16 - Ground the Eagles

For the non-haters who might care, Mike Crawford played in his 100th Billiken game last night. He also went over 2000 minutes in his career. Salute to you, Mr. Crawford. Elliott Welmer has tied Soderball favorite Brett Thompson for 10th on Freshman blocks. -
Ah, now I understand. The one who has the most high school ** stars is the winner. You should have explained it that way. I was talking about college, and you were talking about high school. I checked, Carter's college stats this year aren't all that great: 4.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, and 3.6 apg. That is pretty weak for a high school superstar. If you want, you can supply his high school stats, since that is what is important. So, Wojo is the potato as he couldn't coach Carter. Hmmm.
-
My question was what is your fixation, your connection, on Marquette? Your two 'recommendations' that SLU pick up were from Marquette. It was meant to be a friendly inquiry. Assuming both Eagles are/were 4*, [I'm too lazy to look it up], they haven't been killin' it in Milwaukee. So does that make Wojo or Ford a potato? I fail to see your connection on that one. Why is Traci Carter better than Foreman, Henriquez, or Bess? I never said we were 'too good' for anyone.
-
What's it with you and the Marquette rejects?

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/18325059/2016-2017-college-basketball-transfer-list Wow, already a lengthy list of mid season transfers. Sorry GloryDays, Cohen is headed to Horizon league powerhouse Green Bay. SMU's big 6'11" Aussie center is there for the pickings. There would be another big stiff for Soderballs to hate.
-
Johnson and Cooks will play pretty much the full game. Both seem to be getting a one or two minute break per half. If we sit back in our packed zone, these two will kill us. Both have no hesitation of firing up the three. Johnson is another one of those quick, 5'7" small guards that seem to give us trouble. He put 38 on the board against the Illini. Cooks is just the opposite, a 6'8" SF, from Australia, that can stroke it from inside and outside. (Think Cody Ellis). And as Wiz stated, Johnson doesn't miss from the line, currently hitting 92% from the FT. As a team the Eagles are at 74%, compared to SLU's 62%.

Just to clarify the record, also with 6 blocks in one game are the Big Chill and Al Matiim. Willie R never hit the magic 6, but bracketed 6 with 5 blocks (twice) and 7(once). The overall record is 9 by Kelvin Henderson aganist Siena in 1979
