  1. Interesting back story on this call up. Warriors, Cavs Must Make Roster Additions By Thursday February 18th 2025 at 7:57am CST by Luke Adams NBA roster rules require teams to carry at least 14 players on standard contracts for most of the regular season. Clubs are permitted to dip below 14 players for up to 14 days at a time and 28 days in total during a season. [RELATED: 2024/25 NBA Roster Counts] Several teams dropped below 14 players on standard contracts earlier this month as a result of trade-deadline deals, but most of them have since made additions to get them back to the league-mandated minimum. There are some exceptions, however. Golden State Warriors The Warriors briefly dipped to just 11 players on standard contracts after completing their trade for Jimmy Butler on February 6, then added a 12th man by converting Quinten Post from his two-way contract. Golden State will be required to get back to 14 players on Feb. 20, which means making a pair of roster additions. One of those additions will reportedly be Kevin Knox, who is getting a promotion from the Santa Cruz Warriors after playing well this season for Golden State’s G League affiliate. Besides Knox, the Warriors will have to add one more player to their standard roster by Thursday, either on a 10-day contract or on a rest-of-season deal. Knox is reportedly receiving a 10-day contract, so it would make sense for the Warriors to go that route with their second addition as well. When those 10-day deals expire, the club could remain below 14 players for two more weeks before having to get back to 14 for the rest of the season. That would help Golden State navigate its hard cap and add a 15th man sooner. https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2025/02/warriors-cavs-must-make-roster-additions-by-thursday.html
  2. Coaches Show with Tillett and Schertz 2/17. I listened to the show on Tuesday, downloading from the Varsity Network App. (It's all free.) Several interesting comments from Schertz: 32 minute mark on Kobe and Kalu: Early in the year, in the summer Coach didn't know if Kobe's competitive spirit was aligning with the team's . He never talks. But it reminds not to be judgmental on initial impressions. He is leading the league in shooting % for a point guard. Kalu is figuring out how he is being guarded and leveraging for the team. He is learning how to screen off the ball and cutting to offensive rebounds and dunk opportunities. Instead of being insulted, he is embracing the situation. 7 OR against Mason. 40 minute mark: Playing five guys, never want to only play five guys, but the fatigue issue is overrated. Particularly in the second half. At ISU, he went with his 5. Second half is 20 minutes, then 4 media TO, then the first 30 sec in the second half becomes a full timeout. Coach always keep full TO, for 2 more. That's 7 Full TO. Then 3 30 second time outs plus all stoppages. In the 20 minute game, there is a lot of rest. First half is different, with 4 media TO plus usually two 30's. 44 1/2 min mark: How much can you give a team in a time out. Depends on your team: how long they have been together, you can give them more. But with team's with new players (like SLU) less is more. You don't want to overload: what if this happens, what if that happens, up by 2, down by 2.....How many of these scenarios do you want to give these guys. 48 1/2 min mark: Fun story at the end of the GM game, We had one TO and we had the ball under. Coach wanted to run a play, "Winner 3". A couple guys looked at coach with question marks. He called TO. Robbie told coach "I had them, I had them." He knew what was needed and was going to handle it ...no TO needed. In Loyola 2nd half. Deep out of bounds with 4 sec on clock, was going to run another Winner Play. Robbie starts to tie his shoe, allowing coach time to communicate to the others. Robbie knew coach needed a few seconds.
  3. Am I the only one who thinks Jimerson being 20th on the NCAA Career Minutes Played list is impressive? IRONMAN! Finishing in the Top 10 is achievable. RJ Davis and Love, ahead of him, are also still playing. 1 Jacob Gilyard 5747 2018 2022 Richmond 2 Braden Norris 5484 2019 2024 Loyola (IL) 3 Max Abmas 5472 2020 2024 Texas 4 Marcus Carr 5433 2018 2023 Texas 5 Kyle Lofton 5426 2019 2023 Florida 6 Antoine Davis 5376 2019 2023 Detroit Mercy 7 Kihei Clark 5338 2019 2023 Virginia 8 RJ Davis 5319 2021 2025 North Carolina 9 Caleb Love 5314 2021 2025 Arizona 10 Isaiah Stevens 5313 2020 2024 Colorado State 11 Jalen Pickett 5309 2019 2023 Penn State 12 Darius Brown 5299 2019 2024 Utah State 13 Jordan Bohannon 5263 2017 2022 Iowa 14 Taevion Kinsey 5251 2019 2023 Marshall 15 Joseph Girard 5250 2020 2024 Clemson 16 Kellan Grady 5238 2018 2022 Kentucky 17 Jahmir Young 5215 2020 2024 Maryland 18 Kamdyn Curfman 5204 2020 2024 Marshall 19 Hunter Maldonado 5169 2018 2023 Wyoming 20 Gibson Jimerson 5157 2020 2025 Saint Louis
  4. If the A10 tourney started today: Bills play winner of Dusquene - Richmond
  5. Feb 16, Sports on a Sunday Morning: Wasn't one thing v Loyola. Couldn't finish layups or wide open 3's to expand our separation when we lead. Final 4 minutes, we went underneath on screens, and we miss first on one and one. They went on a 11-0 run in money time. We had a number of mental errors. Everyone misses shots, but you can't turn the ball over on defense. You have to close games on stops. Mason game: 'we can compete with anyone in this league'. We have played all of the top 4 teams and can compete with them. But we have to get better and play better. We have to do a better job of making our opponent not play well. We are still #1 in league in 3 point defense. We are shorthanded, but we have enough to win any game we play. Margin of errors are small in this league. It's not like we are getting blown out.
  6. Tie breakers will come into play. If you recall last season, Loyola and Richmond tied in the final league standings for 1st and UMass and VCU tied for 4th at 11-7. Richmond won the tie breaker for 1st and VCU lost out on the double bye, slotting in at 5th in the tourney. VCU did get their revenge in a second round game, ousting UMass. Today, we hold the tiebreaker over St. Joe, due to our win and their loss to VCU, and UMass due to our head to head win. We HAVE to beat Loyola here. Winning at Davidson is also a must. Yes, 5-1 might or might not do it, but 4-2 would put us as a very long shot for a double bye. Nothing is set, except GM and VCU can be on cruise control the rest of the league play. (VCU is IN bubble discussions.)
  7. Take your pick: According to Stu, Casey has played in only three games due to an ankle injury suffered in the second week of the season and the back problem that came about in a practice the day before the Atlantic 10 opener. He also was suffered a hamstring injury in a team scrimmage.
  8. Thames + Hughes + Casey would give us an experienced 8 man rotation. Yes, we win several more games.
  9. The game against George Mason results were clearly due to Gibson's ankle. He didn't have his normal lift on his shots. Before that, who knows. In addition, both Durando and Timmermann report that Swope's ankle continues to bother him, to the extent that he doesn't participate in full practices. Gibson is shooting 29.5% from the arc in 12 conference games and Swope is shooting 32.1% from the arc.
  10. We control our own destiny with two games left against Loyola + one with Dayton. @studurando George Mason and VCU now appear to have a firm grasp on the top two spots in the Atlantic 10. The battle for the remaining top four spots and a double bye in the tournament is a jumble: SLU 7-5 Dayton 7-5 Loyola 6-5 St. Joseph’s 6-5 9:22 AM · Feb 13, 2025
  11. Are you counting Nick Patton as Frosh #4? He is not dressing this year as a Walk-On.
  12. Interesting comment (lower right) on Goodwin working hard to lose weight. I think the votes are in. Bench Luka, start Jordan.
  13. Agree with you and @ACE. We will be losing 3 of our top 4 scorers, so first on my list are TWO transfers who are averaging double digit points this season. We have seen our desperate need for help on the boards, so #3 transfer on my list is a proven rebounder - who is also a scoring threat. Anya is a rebounding warrior, but his lack of an outside shot is a liability to Schertz' offense. I'm not sure anyone would be comfortable starting next season with a rotation of Avila, Anya, Thames, Dotzler, Warlick, McCottry, Casey and Pikaar. A quick look at the ISU stats shows Avila seems to be the last Freshman to play significant minutes for Schertz, starting 29 of 34 games and playing 21 mpg. Larry Julian also started as a Freshman, in the year before Avila. The ISU roster wasn’t very impressive Schertz’ first season.
  14. There are lots of candidate lists out there for the IU job. It is very attractive as they have a "money cannon" fueling their NIL basketball effort. Reportedly, and there is no way to support this statement, they have the highest hoops NIL in the Big Ten and one of the highest in the nation. (The NIL $$ didn't help much this season in basketball.) Brad Stevens is first on the list, and if he hasn't been called, he will be. He will refuse, and that probably is a good thing. It has been a decade since he coached at Butler, and the game has changed tremendously since then. Why would he want to put up with the new NIL/portal culture? I don't see the need to type out the many candidates that are on the multiple lists. You can find them if you are interested. But yes, Schertz is on many "third tier" lists. If AD Scott Dolson wants to attempt to repeat the success of his hire a mid-major coach he had with Curt Cignetti, the top candidate would likely be Ben McCollum. Both Schertz and McCollum would be hard sells for the IU crowd.
  15. Per Coach, Gibby was able to ‘do some stuff today at practice’. Not sure if he can go tomorrow or if he does how much he can do. So no change -game time decision
  16. @tomtimm·20m Looks like it will be a game-time decision on Jimerson. Didn't practice Sunday, probably doing limited work today. "His ankle's pretty purple but if anybody's going to give it a go, it's him," said Schertz.
  17. Schertz interview on Sports on a Sunday Morning, Feb 9 Coach has Chiefs in the Super Bowl, winning on a 'doink'. Traveling back to the East Coast where Schertz grew up, "Yeah it beats Cedar Falls, Valpo, Evansville, etc." He knew league was good, but surprised at how good the A10 is. Amazed at parity in league. No team is easy. St Joe game, on film the first 15 min was good, but defense up and down. We attacked the way we were guarded the best we have. Kalu was attacking. Some defensive breakdowns. Near the end of the half, we missed some ball screens. Second half we got beat up. Effort, energy not as good. We can't loose physicality even for a minute. Kobe is our most consistent player. Went to zone due to foul trouble. 61-57 with under five to go, we missed a layup and they took off. We have to figure it out the with 8 guys we have. Robbie has to be better. Same thing with Swope. Jimerson: hurt his ankle. He is as tough a player as he has coached. He isn't a guy that will sit out. We will practice today and see how he is. He saw the trainers yesterday (no practice). So day to day. George Mason is Top 10 Defense team in America. Massive in size. (GM is 9th in the Nation in Scoring Defense.)
  18. Hit the link for the A10 tourney bracket as of the end of yesterday's games. We would meet Loyola v GW/Fordham winner if the current standings were final today. https://x.com/MLBergman_/status/1888396688148070621
  19. Lakers put Goodwin to work today: 25 min, 10 points, (all in crunch time) 4 rebounds and 1 assist. He wore a protective face mask.
  20. Our in-bound plays under the basket have turned into basic vanilla. There was some originality sets earlier this year, now it is wait 4.5 seconds and throw it towards half court.
  21. Stu posted an article on Goodwin joining the Lakers. If you subscribe, don't miss it. If you don't subscribe, your loss. Stu stated the Lakers are looking at Goodwin largely for his on-ball defense. In the G League, he averaged 14.6 pg, 5.9 rpg and 3.3 apg. He hit 30% from the 3. The Lakers can have Goodwin on the Active Game Day Roster for all remaining games. The limit for a 2 way player is 50 and they 33 left. He is reportedly on the books for $212,000 for the rest of the season.
  22. Schertz on postgame interview: "When Isaiah Swope leads you in rebounds, it's not a good sign." "Looks like an ankle issue with Gibson." "Tough night for Amari, I don't know what was going on with him."
  23. Great news. With the addition of Luka, the Lakers need a guard who plays defense! Certainly an opportunity for Mr. Goodwin. They waived Traore to fit him into the roster.
