  1. That could have happened too, and I would have been just as frustrated. It didn’t happen to them, though. It happened to a guy who could cut, slash, take a guy off the dribble and had a solid perimeter game. You took away an average of 17 PPG and 32 points against a team from the Southeastern Conference. That talent was taken away from us by sheer player mismanagement. I appreciate your take and when any starter goes down in an exhibition, it would be a lot of moaning and groaning, but somehow Ford has been getting a pass on this.
  2. A game Javonte Perkins didn’t need to be playing in with 4:44 left in the first half. I’m sorry, but that is indefensible. If he’s not in shape that’s on Ford as well. He doesn’t need an exhibition game to get his legs under him. If Perkins goes down at the jump ball in a game against Dayton, ok, that’s different. You can’t lose a guy like him in an exhibition game. That’s why you’ve got a 12 man roster.
  3. Couldn’t agree with you more - then joined the ranks of “Caddyshack” and “Airplane!” in “Movies that didn’t need a sequel.” I’ll be in my Oldsmobuick or out on the lanai if you need me.
  4. Amen to that. How Ford has continuously received a pass for the minutes Perkins played against perennial Great Lakes Valley Conference stalwart Rockhurst is mind boggling. Did anyone from the post dispatch question his logic post-game? Did anyone in STL learn from Trent Green 1999?
  5. Reminds me of the great Fletch, who was 6’5” but 6’9” with the Afro, per Chick Hearn. A total difference maker on the ‘84-‘85 world champion Lakers.

  7. That is the best nickname ever. My imaginary cap is being doffed in your direction, sir. How do we make that a thing moving forward?
  8. Agree - we just have to rip the band-aid off on this one. Aside from the old adage “it’s hard to be a Billiken fan,” a lot of us are jilted and jaded lovers. There isn’t a shrink in this country who could take on this fan base maybe in Salina, KS…going through the Yellow Pages as we speak. I doff my cap at Yuri, thank him for the memories and move on to the next floor general.
  9. To paraphrase an old coach, they’ll probably put Cleveland State on probation for the sins Gates commits at Missouri.
  10. Isn’t a retirement home (Delmar Gardens) one of the major sponsors of Billiken basketball on the rotating signage on the baseline? If that isn’t the definition of irony, I don’t know what is.
  11. Ahhh I did not know that. Battle of the Bands!!
  12. Just build an on campus arena, already, DePaul. The Vincentians have money coming out of their ears. 18 miles between campus and Rosemont in the Meyer days and always great crowds. 7 miles from campus to McCormick center area / Wintrust and hardly a soul. How the mighty have fallen…
  13. Agree - right before the Loyola game, a number of band members played outside at Humphreys and it was awesome - it would be cool as hell to get the band leading the charge down/up Laclede from Humphreys to Chaifetz with fans, students and alumni bringing up the rear. They really sounded great - kind of a crack squad of musicians, but I was impressed! In any event, I hope we can keep the band alive and well to add the ambiance only they can!
  14. For sure - but it’s more civilized than the Hoffa days when they’d put a live one in your car when a guy crossed the line.
  15. No doubt about it. I was lucky enough to have seen both sides of the MVC spectrum during my time at SLU. Creighton, SMS and even Southern IL ran laps around Evansville, Indiana State, Bradley. Southwest Missouri went to Omaha in 03, for goodness sakes. We had a donor for a hitting net down the third base line, and it was the brother of one of our players who had a brief stint of success in the pros. I don’t think it lasted more than a season or two before it faded away.
  16. Definitely an unfair comparison. Did you note the rows of recreational vehicles parked outside the Box? Folks camp out for weekend series there. I want to call it almost a cottage industry for what SEC baseball culture is. As a three-year student mgr of the baseball team, my only joy came when we played Travis Tritt’s “It’s a Great Day to be Alive” when the Bills won… …only problem was, we didn’t play it enough to earn Mr Tritt a full tank of gas on his tour bus. We were the furthest north CUSA team shoveling snow and hitting off tees in west pine when South Florida, TCU, Houston, Southern Miss were shagging flies in short sleeves. A10 ball has been better for us, but we have a long way to go and a short time to get there.
  17. And a large inflatable rat on-site.
  18. “If U ain’t a DAWG… U DAWG FOOD,” Bell said. I hope that is turned into a nice NIL opportunity for the big man. Congrats, Jimmy.
  19. Lol working on it. My wife and I got married on St Pat’s in upstate NY, so we’ll be celebrating 8 weeks of wedded bliss this Friday!
  20. Maybe they will find some common ground(s) eventually…
  21. Box, it looks like you can pick up a bag at a place called Running Niche in STL (near Tower Grove & Vandeventer) Other than that, it’s a digital storefront. Excited to see where this young man goes with a great product!
