  1. I would think it is the opposite. If he comes here, he wants to play PF, and be a backup center. At 253 lbs, and a good shot, he can do both. I think he would play 35 minutes. We really would just have to balance ball handlers on the court as well. But I think it would be a good fit. Haase May also be a good fit for the A10. SLU May be a good fit for him. He was already at SC, and found that all have 4-5 PF/C, and playing time may be limited for anyone. He was able to see Yuri (and our team) play firsthand, so he knows he will be able to get the ball distributed well in the offense. But who knows.
  2. Even though the 3 pt shot numbers are bad, he is only 17, and he was playing against grown men. This is not comparable to HS kids that shoot great against guys that are unable to guard them. I bet his numbers go up when he gets to SLU. That said, his numbers would tank if he went anywhere else.
  3. There’s always money in the Pickle Market.
  4. To drop the historical bottom 5 teams from the A10, and bring in Gonzaga, Witchita State, Belmont, Saint Mary’s, Murray state, and SF.
  5. Say what you will about NIL, but I just bought some pickles. Partly because the brand looks cool, and partly because of the story around Fred Thatch. Maybe the first time I have bought pickles in a decade. There is something to be said about hometown marketing through a hometown team. It cuts through an otherwise endless sea of bleh.
  6. I am not really sure where you were going with this. I think you do a good job displaying and describing a problem. I do take issue with the reference to the punk kid making $200k. The problem with saying that is that this punk kid may never make more than $30k per year the rest of his life. That was always the problem with this system. The big football linebacker that doesn’t make the show, and never learned to read, but somehow got through 4 years of college. In an ideal world, education would have been placed first and the kids would all pile into the Stanfords of the world, but for some reason, that does not happen. The simple reason is greed, and selfishness. Well, at least this new system will at least align a more accurate form of payment to the players.
  7. They are selling a heck of a lot of pickles.
  8. Would someone please let Andrew Carr know:
  9. A Mizzou assistant is probably just trying to badmouth SLU to him. Mizzou has never known anything other than a zero sum game. Rise above them.
  10. It would be a good fit. It would be last year redux, but with Perkins, especially if Crespin signs. Almost exactly the same. Weird.
  11. Your right, the last time I saw grade related suspensions was in the 1990’s, and that was at Notre Dame. This NIL deal is going to really change things…
  12. Right, I understand, but why can’t these contracts prevent someone from transferring? Is that exclusivity clause then seen as an attempt to prevent someone from transferring? Does it violate the intent of that rule/law? This is a weird situation ripe for new rulings from judges. All of this is conjecture. When you get hired to do a commercial, there is normally not an exclusivity clause on the person in the commercial for everything they can promote. Just for a small thing, like, you cannot get paid to promote a competitor. If I was a player, I would not want to be excluded from receiving more money, so why would I agree to it if it is broad in nature?
  13. I am not sure what prevents the school from being able to keep players at that school. If it is state law, then I would not want to try to enforce an exclusivity law against that. My guess is that it would be broken by a judge as going against the intent of that law. If it is an NCAA rule, who knows.
  14. All about that money ball. This is really good example of what to expect. It will take time, but it will happen.
  15. Thank you! I still think this is really important to look at. The highest basketball schools only have double the SLU budget. We are fairly comparable to anyone after the top 45, like inside a 20% difference. So, when this all shakes out, are the best programs only going to be able to afford 2x the talented players than SLU? Everyone else is a 20% difference. If so, that might actually be better than it has been. If some one has time, they can compare average recruiting stars per school per year in recruiting and graph it compared to budget. I think those two graphs will match (obviously trend line) in the future.
  16. I agree with Brian STL, and you are right in the short term. For the next year or two everything will be in chaos, after that, programs with more money will find a way.
  17. What is SLU’s ranking in basketball athletic budget? I remember seeing it, and that we were a lot higher than I expected. If that is true, then we will be fine.
  18. They went to the A10 Finals as freshmen, Sophomore year was lost, Junior year A10 champs, Senior year underperformed, but with injuries. If this is the average Schmitt 4 year period, he is blowing it out of the water. What does he get paid? Also, none of these were big recruits. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a cumulative 0 stars coming in.
  19. First, these are 20 year olds. None of them will remember this in 3 months. Second, if the players (or fans) cannot accept that one of their own would leave to pursue money, such as a professional career, then they need to get ready for disappointment in life.
  20. What will be fascinating is whether schools with incredibly rich alumni bases, such as Stanford, will all of a sudden rise to the top of sports. In the past, those fans did not care, or were unwilling to engage in the gray legal area of funding players. Now the later issue has been removed.
  21. He definitely should to Jack Dorsey. That should be a no brainer even before this change. Same with any near Billionaire. Give them front row seats for free.
  22. I wonder if the Iron 5 are just waiting to see if one breaks loose, and then the rest will depart.
  23. We are kind of stupid for not offering him. That said, we didn’t really have room for him until a month ago. Might have been missed in the last few weeks. Bummer.
