Apparently Goodwin has really been working on his 3pt shot this summer!

Goodwin hit a 3/4 court shot at the end of the first half of a game at the Belleville East Tournament. I believe it was against Chaminade. It is largely a matter of strength and luck. He easily had the strength shooting it as a standard set shot, not a heave.

Not sure about that school but I'm sure their facilities are unbelievable. You know what else is unbelievable? Throwing back 8 or 9 cold brews at Rod n Reel on AMI.

Not sure what to think of this Markhi Strickland. Wasn't really impressed after looking at his Verbal Commits page but not sure how updated that is (has him listed at 6'5). Pistol's analysis made me feel a little better about him but still hoping he's a back up plan.

Just ate at rod n reel a half hour ago. Any other recommendations on AMI?

I wonder when Gordon’s dirt at SLU will be public.

Anyways tired of the age being an excuse for the kid. Making mistakes is a part of childhood. Not repeating them Is a part of growing up

    What dirt would that be?

OK.  So in tight game, French picks up his 3rd foul at the start of the second half.... or picks up his 4th foul with 12 minutes to go...  or picks up his 5th foul....  then Coach Ford replaces French with ____________?

The guy on the bench who he thinks is the best match up. We have no one who can match French’s physical game, defense and rebounding.

Hargrove is definitely athletic, but he also seems to have skills and appears to be coachable.  That all points to our staff being able to quickly be able to teach him how to play with his back to the basket.  To me, the only concern early on is him putting on muscle to be able to handle the contact that comes with posting up.

Hargrove is not going to be a back to the basket player. He will go over his man or around his man. He can slash and jump. Those are his strengths and they will play at this level. No need to reinvent the wheel, just let it roll.

The problem we have with our core 3 players of French, Goidwin and Thatch,  are that they were poor shooters from the old 3 point line and the FT line last season.

I think our best team against a tournament quality zone is: Bell, French, Perkins, Gibson and Goodwin. That would make us the tallest team in the A10 and on par or taller than many tournament teams, 6-11, 6-7, 6-6, 6-6, 6-4. Bell and French could switch from high to low post, as the ball swings from side to side. Bell would be a tall target, with a height advantage over most opponents.  The ball in the post puts a lot of pressure on the zone, especially with 2,  A+ 3 point shooters, looking for a kick out pass.

2 strong 3 point shooters will stretch the zone, especially with the new 3 point line. That will provide room for French and Goodwin.

I know Bell is not a 30 min a game player right now, but Ford's recent comments about his weight loss and shooting around the basket have been encouraging.

That would not be our strongest defensive team. But they should be reasonably effective at playing a zone defence by tournament time.

I find it hard to believe Bell is going to go from a role as a backup center on his prep team, to a core player his freshman year in the A10.

I don’t even know where to begin with explaining that it doesn’t matter if this picture was taken on campus. What I can tell you is that Weaver was on campus and I’m 99.99% confident that he’s committed to SLU

    So its 50/50.

Courtside, Thanks for the detailed reply!  Looks like SLU Tennis has several needs.  It's my understanding from some people and from your post there are quite a few things that need to be addressed:

    1. Scholarship Increase

    2. Budget Increase

    3. On Campus Facility (Minimum 6 outdoor courts, Indoor courts would be outstanding)

    4. A Head Coach for each program (1 coach overseeing 2 programs with very little assistant help is very low budget)

    5. Assistant Coaches (Full Time or at minimum GA positions for each program)

    6. Decent salary for an experienced coach

Courtside, I agree with your assessment about just hiring local pros that do it for the love of the game.  If the admin wants to move the programs forward they need to hire a coach with experience in recruiting and building teams.  The next coach is going to have his/her hands full bringing in talent.  As I see it, the overall level of player needs to dramatically increase.  If they hire a local pro or someone with a year or 2 of college coaching experience it will be the same old story.  I think it's a great chance to take advantage of a sport SLU should be good at by making some improvements to the program and hire an experienced coach.  I am not holding my breath though.  Go Bills!

The administration has no desire to move these programs forward. That would take money and commitment. They are content with their philosophy that the men’s basketball program is the crown jewel. Followed by men’s soccer. Women’s basketball, volleyball and soccer get funding because of Title IX requirements and they will even put a little effort and money into baseball and softball. The rest of the sports are sacrifial lambs and pretty much given a low price coach, minimal funding and told good luck. I assume the reason for all the low funded sports is either league or NCAA requirements to have a certain number of teams. If that is not the reason, I’ve always wondered why they bother to have them if they are not willing to fund them at a competitive level.

My point was you could have verified it from that persons source before posting a rumor. Oh by the way I heard Ford is having an affair with a cheerleader anybody heard  this.

Is that the same one that organized situation 2? I could see the connection. They both recruit good players, but some still question their game management skills.

  10. I thought the European salaries would be higher. I remember years ago some posted Roland Gray was making $160k playing in Spain. I also heard from a friend of Chris Heinrich that he was making big money playing in Europe. I also remember it being reported Bonner was making $500k playing in Russia. Was all that just urban legend?
