  1. No. You are starting a baseless rumor and calling it an opinion.
  2. Yes. Weaver struggled too bc of his height. And we have taller shooters in Jimerson, Perkins, Hatgrove,, Lorentsson along w Jacobs and Goodwin. Not sure about Strickland and his 3 point shooting but he is 6’6”. Anyone have his stats?
  3. Yes. Agree. Mid majors must be more creative in how they counter act the P5 schools. There is a lot of talent in the non-P5 leagues. A10 vs. West Coast would be great. And if conferences can schedule with each other years in advance, then the conferences can evaluate/rank their own teams to provide better matchup games for games that year. SLU, for instance, is tough to schedule. We have been anything but consistent. We have gone from being really good to really bad to really good again. But other programs are not so sure scheduling us. Dayton and VCU have been more consistent over the years.
  4. Sorry Dad. So says you. Quite bitter again today I see. The guy barely played so therefore a few more sentences is not warranted? So that's your test for who deserves more lengthy/quality of articles? And I guess you didn't read the story b/c the reason why he is leaving WAS given -- to be closer to home... And when have I "roasted" anyone on their way out? On the contrary, I am suggesting a nicer, more detailed article be written for a student athlete who gave all he had for 2 years here at SLU, who WAS a good teammate, who did not break school/team rules, laws.... Being a good teammate DOES matter. Just saying the article could have been a little more informative - and nicer. And no, I am not looking for his grade in Biology class but that Hankton is an honor roll student major in _____ and is looking to complete his degree closer to home."; or that he "was a top ___forward out of high school but things did not work out due to injuries to his foot OR to his back …. but that he has fully recovered and is looked to play healthy elsewhere.
  5. Sure there is. Hankton is a student athlete. His student portion could have been mentioned -- his grades, his major. He was/is a good teammate - and that could have been mentioned. His injuries and current health/physical status could have been mentioned. Either lazy reporting or limited resources/space appears to be present... but if you are going to write a story, then make it more detailed than a 5th grader's article.
  6. Congratulations. Another irresponsible post - this time about Jacobs. What makes a suspension ambiguous? That Coach Ford did not consult with you? What's your excuse this time?
  7. Wow. What a terrible and short article. How hard would it be to call a source and write another paragraph. Shame.
  8. Hope your right. We lost a “ big” in Hankton and we have no replacement for French.
  9. Yep. I really like our team for next year - but again, not much of a backup for French. An injury to him would be devastating. And even though Hankton did not develop in the backup for French, we are now less another “big”
  10. True. If Ford has confidence in Diarra, then a transfer who must sit out would be our best chance. If not sure about Diarra, or to add depth and help chances w Kern, maybe we take Stockard (assuming he even wants to leave)
  11. I don't want a grad transfer. I want either a freshman heir apparent to back up French/Bell or a transfer who must sit a year - to replace French next year.
  12. Thanks. What I thought - though better than I thought. We have our 3 point shooters for next year already: Perkins and Jimerson. As most all predicted, Perkins needed time to adjust to the college game. I made a mistake by expecting too much, too soon from Perkins. I expected more from him early on (during OOC) b/c of his 2 years of prior JUCO experience as compared to all our true freshmen. Further, I admit that I made another mistake as Perkins exceeded my expectations from conference play onward. A truly special player. Didn't Javon Bess say he is the most talented offensive player on the team before the season? Then we watched Perkins ride the bench or play 3 minutes? Again, credit to Coach Ford for teaching defense, and demanding defense/team play, from Perkins, Hargrove, Weaver, Yuri, Bell, Jacobs and Jimerson. None were good at the start of the season. And credit to the players for not sulking or getting angry, not quiting, not copping attitudes.
  13. I don't think Thatch is coming back
  14. Houston signed with a prep school.
  15. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4066512/lorenzo-edwards He scored 9 points against us. I guess he redshirted his Freshman year? True graduate transfer who can play somewhere right away. Assume anywhere but in the A10?
  16. Thanks for the calculations. Do you have the figures for Perkins's first half vs second half of the A10? or first 1/3, second 1/3 and final 1/3? My memory has him improving his shooting success rate (and all his stats) as the year went on.
  17. Comparisons are not really accurate if we move away from a predictable, one-dimensional, poor shooting bully ball team -- and have an Achilles heel and subject to loss disciplined teams pack the lane and officials frequently blow the whistle. As Perkins adapts, becomes more comfortable, and works hard this summer, I think he will improves from 3 point; if Hargrove can focus on being a wing (not a center) and continue to work hard this summer, his perimeter shooting will improve and I think he will become a "go to" guy and if Jimerson assumes the lead on perimeter shooting/takes pressure off, then Jacobs, Yuri and Goodwin will all increase their perimeter shooting percentages. And don't forget our 2 Freshman who can help as well. If this happens, then our team will not be the one-dimensional team we have been these past 2 years - and won't be subject to the above Achilles heel. If so, not worried about Duquesne or Richmond. And I am NOT expecting Fred Thatch back, or back to his Freshman form/health, but we should be fine at guard with Yuri Jimerson, Hargrove, Jacobs, Perkins, Goodwin ad our 2 Frosh.
  18. Agreed. We won the games we were supposed to win but did not over-achieve during the season or in the NCAA Tourney. Caretaker -- not great, hot commodity coach. Yes. And I believe RM had full confidence in Crews (as opposed to Whitesell) keeping the team together/without changes while RM recovers and then later return. Short-term caretaker -- not permanent replacement coach. RM likely gave his wishes to go with Crews back in August when school was starting and RM fell ill. Remember, RM had been suffering with chronic heart disease for years -- and I do not believe RM thought in August/September that he was going to die in December/never return when RM spoke with SLU officials/Chris May in August/September and when SLU/May appointed Crews interim coach. Athletic Directors are paid good money to make these hard decision. Decisions have consequences. AD Chris May took the easy way out -- he put his head in the sand and did nothing. Then, public sentiment flowed in. By the Spring, it was tougher to not hire Crews. Instead, Chris May should have gotten ahead of the situation and control the events -- instead, he let the events flow however they wanted. Chris May took care of Chris May -- and continues to cash his paycheck. I love that we have Travis Ford, but to say that no one else could have lead out team and kept the momentum of Rick Majerus is ridiculous. We really needed the program to hit the embarrassing rock bottom it did for 2 years in order to hire a good and competent new head coach? I don't recall Xavier, Butler, Gonzaga, VCU and now Dayton having to do this. No one was going to hire Jim Crews and no way does our tight, cohesive Junior class all disband and not return for their Senior class if Chris May hired someone other than Crews. Chris May knew the players did not respect/like/want Jim Crews - but Chris May put his head in the sand and did what's best for Chris May. Well, you would be wrong with your venture. Then, again, a month ago you were trying to tell us how good of Coach Jim Crew was. As to your second point, keeping consistency... that is why it was good/smart to name Jim Crews as Interim Coach - not permanent head coach for 5 years. They were a tight group and didn't want to go their own ways - and sit a year out. Easier to leave a program after your Freshman or even Sophomore year -- but much harder to leave the older you get and the more attached you get. Getting your degree, staying with your non-basketball circle of friends, staying where your girlfriend goes to school, comfort of remaining at your new "home"....
  19. Aquinas. Normally I agree with all your posts. This one, though, I am going to disagree a little bit. Here goes: I do NOT want a stretch 4. Of course I liked Cody Ellis, who didn't/doesn't? Instead, I would much prefer another classic power forward along the lines of Anthony Bonner and now French. Put me down for a guy like French - but who can make a 10 footer and also make 3 of 4 free throws. Another 4 years of bully ball - but this time with 3 point shooters as well!
  20. Yes. My neighbor is a physician who works there. Have talked to her in detail since last Fall but I believe she had last been working on tests involving malaria and other such Third World diseases.
  21. NCAA has not yet voted yet, right? Transfers like Martin must still sit out a year? Wonder if restrictions within the leagues will remain? Can remain?
  22. Wait a second. 6 years of high school? How old is he?
  23. https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news/2020/03/12/meet-the-slu-department-on-the-frontlines-of.html?b=1584013271^21634720 A SLU degree not only helps you get admitted to a graduate program/school or your first job... but also a little pride... to know your alma mater is 1 of 9 medical research centers working on a vaccine. Proud to “Be a Billiken”
  24. Not much of a compliment. If it is a compliment. Thor clearly did not have a great experience with us. I know very little about him. Understand he has an older brother who is good and made the adjustment to better D1 basketball. But from my little knowledge of Thor, he needed more time to adjust and get ready for D1/SLU and b/c of his illness, he actually got less time. Then, the team was without perimeter shooters and everyone looked to him for help - and he wasn't ready. Probably would have needed a year even without his illness. By comparison, we all love Jimerson, who was great in his 9 or 10 games and who would have had a great season for us, but I wonder how good he truly would have been had he come to SLU without his extra year at prep school.
