That 06-07 team lost their 4th game of the year to Texas A&M 69 to 33. I can't see this team getting embarrassed like that. That team also had absolutely no depth at all. The starting 5 was Polk, Lisch, Liddell, Meyer, Vouyoukas and the bench was just Danny Brown, Justin Johnson, and Husak. Outside of the top 3 for each team, there is really no comparison. Looking back though, that team did inexplicably have some pretty good wins (MO State, Mississippi, Xavier all at home), but they were negated by awful losses (@St. Bonaventure, Duquense, @Fordham). They basically did as expected W-L record wise OOC. If you look more closely at the point spreads, there was worrisome trends. Once conference play started, their flaws were exposed. Only 1 conference road win wasn't going to cut it. Tom Timmerman sometimes says you can judge a team by their record in blowout games (we'll say 15+ points). The 06-07 team was 3-2 in such games during the non-conference schedule. This team is 5-0 so far (with a 14 pointer over Wofford as well).

FYI Billiken Athletics @SLU_Billikens4h Students, your ID will get you and 3 guest into any @SaintLouisMBB game over break. Just show your ID at Gate B #RiseOfTheBillikens

Yes. This is also very helpful. I actually had fun at some Rockhurst athletic events by getting drunk beforehand.

Welcome to the board! My best advice for the students that are going to the game is to encourage all of your friends to go and then be as insane/crazy/fun during the games as possible to get everyone else riled up. Everyone seems to love costumes.

Seems like the SLUnatics and the AD should be on the same page.

Reaching out for ideas to boost student support and attendance and brainstorming is good. It is easy to put out feelers on this board, but may not be the best place to look for ideas. I would suggest trying to get in touch with "SLUnatic-type" groups at other Universities to see what they do to boost student engagement or if they have any ideas. Focusing on similar mid-sized private Universities would probably be a good idea. Looking at schools that do not have a great history of basketball success, but have a lot of student support would also be a good idea.

FYI if you want to watch Reynolds and Whintey Young vs Apple Valley, a replay is available via Watch ESPN.

Crawford has already played 32 total minutes this year which is more than Grady played his entire freshman year (29) and approaching the amount Manning played his freshman year (47). We are used to seeing freshman play big minutes because there were no other options. I think most freshman getting less than 100 minutes will be the new norm if Crews can keep the program at it's current level of success. You don't redshirt those kids because in most cases if they can't crack the rotation their freshman year, you don't want them eating up a scholarship for an extra year. Also, as others have said, you need them in case of an injury.

Season Ticket holders- 2 free indiana st. tickets
RUBillsFan replied to slubilliken09's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
So I just realized that on your Billiken ticket account online there is an option to donate your tickets to charity if you will not be able to use them. I wonder if anyone knows about this or does this. Further, I wonder if SLU has some way of tracking how often season tickets go unused. All of the tickets are scanned and they know which seats are season tickets, so you'd think they could figure out which are being unused. I would hope that they would be using this information to figure out which season tickets are consistently going unused and contacting those folks to let them know about the program to donate them to charity. -

It's pretty funny that we had people complaining about Majerus's rants and his ripping players in the media and now we have people complaining about Crews's coach-speak and not calling players out. I'm not sure it is the same people, but it is amusing. I take anything coaches say in the media with a big grain of salt. Hopefully Crews is getting it done in practice and demanding more from the players away from the prying eyes of the media. No way of knowing that really. -
I'm not happy with the offense and I don't think we have an identity yet. I'm just saying that I think we should be using these games to find that identity rather than just repeatedly going to Loe inside against an over-matched team.

Maybe because that won't work against teams that do have guys taller than 6'7"? I would hope that against these cupcakes we aren't just trying to exploit their weaknesses over and over, but are actually trying to work on our offense.

The 1st one was really awful. That is the type of foul that IMO should get you tossed as well. He basically just tackled him from behind which is really dangerous because the player is not expecting to be taken down like that and can't brace himself. -

If anyone else still has the 2 free Indiana State tickets and is looking to give them away, I would be interested. Willing to give them rights to my Billiken monopoly board game (which I don't think I really had in the 1st place). Thanks. -

I don't think I saw this posted anywhere else. Tonight was Cody Ellis's last game with the team. He'll now be traveling down under to play with the Sydney Kings. -

Looking back. Seems like the intentional foul on Wofford's take down of Evans was a turning point. SLU was up 25 - 9 at the time and cruising. Perhaps SLU saw them taking cheap shots and decided they'd rather stay healthy than run away with it. -

Yep. Win number 500 for Majerus. 72 - 62 win over Div II Illinois-Springfield 12/10/11. Same team later took #1 seed Michigan State to the wire. -

Refs seem to swallow the whistle a bit too when we get up by 10+ in the 1st half. -

I'd like to see the Billikens keep their intensity up. Seems like they get up by 10 or 15 on these cupcakes and then just coast. -
This is how my mind works. I read "down to Compton" and I think of this... (to the tune of NWA's "Straight outta Compton") Straight down on Compton, genius basketball mind named Jim Crews From the team called Billikens from Saint Lou Coaching for the win, doing it again Run the table in the tourney now we own the A-10...

Random thoughts: The Terriers (Wofford) mark the beginning of SLU playing 3 dog mascots in the next 5 games (along with the NC A&T and Yale Bulldogs). SLU had a run of bird mascots to begin the year (SEMO Redhawks, Oral Roberts Eagles, Bowling Green Falcons, Rockhurst Hawks). No one on Wofford's roster is listed as being taller than 6-8 (and neither of the 6-8 guys gets a ton of PT). I would assume we won't be worrying about rebounding like we were after the Valpo game.
