  1. You're right, this is really a bummer, just like Kevin's hand injury last year. I was told that the exact nature of the surgery and her willingness to play with pain will dictate how long it will be before she returns. I'm sure, anyone who has watched her play realizes, that she will do anything it takes to get back to the court. Last year she broke her nose and was back almost immediately. On a side note, aren't both of these kids the epitome of student/athletes!!
  2. Just returned from the women's game against Missouri Baptist. As expected, it was a blow-out. SLU by about 30. However, Theresa Lisch was not in uniform and her left hand is in a cast upto the elbow. After discussions with a SLU staffer, I was informed that she has a broken left hand, will have surgery in the next day or two to have a pin inserted, and will be out 2-6 weeks. Boys, based on that their season just hit a major roadblock. They don't have anyone to take her place. It will take a real team effort to hang in there for 6 weeks. On a brighter note, the 2 freshmen played much better this evening. Amanda Komesyzs is the key for the team to do well. As the men, they have little size after her, and they are a different side with her out of the line-up. Good luck in their opener Sunday afternoon at West Pine. And a speedy recovery to TLisch.
  3. Again, please keep this in mind, I said it was a rumor. As I previously stated, I hope whatever DM decides to do, it works out for him. He seems like a good kid the few times I've spoken to him.
  4. I believe the school announced some time ago, that there will be 250 seats made available for families the day of the game. Assuming the rest of the place is sold out with season ticketholders, which is their expectations, there aren't going to be any other single tickets available .
  5. RUMOR I heard was that he may take the redshirt, transfer at the semester to SIU-E (which is going D-1) and becoming eligible next year. Again, just RUMOR. He seems like a good young man. Whatever he decides, I hope it works out for him.
  6. If he stays all 5 years, it will affect the 2010-2011 team. I'm not sure what recruiting class you would call that, since you can sign in November 2009and April 2010.
  7. Unless they were planning on forcing him out, and using the scholarship with someone else, it will have no affect.
  8. Thanks, Nate. I agree with Shimmy. The girls were a little tight tonight and didn't play all that well. TL has gotten even better!! She played a different game than the others on the court this evening. There is a big drop in the defense when the starters or MH aren't in. I'm sure that will improve over time.
  9. It is my understanding that the schedule was basically complete, but RM changed it. He dropped some games that were scheduled for buy games at home. He wanted to soften the schedule, while he's trying to implement his system. I'm told this is very normal for a new coach, if they're able to have the money for the buy games.
  10. The men will win by plenty, but the women will destroy UMSL. They won by a bunch last year and have a much better team now. Shimmy brings back almost everyone, except Tyler, and has recruited well. If Amanda K. is able to play a full year, they will have the inside presence they lacked in many of their losses last year. I look for the women to finish much higher than the ninth place finish projected for them.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, RM stated at the Billiken Club meeting last week that BE would play a bunch at the 5. He was not positive on his comments of BH and didn't say much of anything about AK. Based on what he said, I expect we will play small often this year, especially in the beginning, when BH and AK are getting in playing shape.
  12. Both of them spoke very briefly, because RM went on for quite a while. Neither reported anything new, other than Koshay indicated that the local TV is not complete. They hope to announce something soon, but that's what they said last month. My contacts at KFNS have told me a number of times that they are having a problem getting RM to agree to a post-game and/or weekly radio show. Regarding the weekly show, KFNS has offerred to have it at the Chase, where RM currently resides. As of last week, no agreement had been reached. My guess is that an Assistant Coach will talk to Rammer after the games, and they will come to some agreement about a weekly show with RM.
  13. Funny how a group of people can hear something, and walk away with different understandings. My take was that he was talking about defensive pressure. Previously, we forced everything to the middle, where there was a bunch of weak side help. Now, we will force everything baseline, where the help comes from a different angle, because of the baseline. Another interesting item, which I don't think has been mentioned, is that he is going to offer to another player from the east coast. There wasn't a discussion of the position or type of player he is, but rather that the lead came from an alum. He invited anyone with a lead to contact the basketball office, and they would follow up on it. He also asked for help raising money to take the team to Canada next summer. He can practice for ten days, with the November 2007 and Spring 2008 recruits and the returning players. He indicated this would be a great way to jumpstart the 08-09 season. Finally, I found out from someone who should know, that the late release of the schedule was because RM changed it. Apparently, he wanted to make it a little easier to help him implement his system before league play begins. I would imagine this is pretty normal.
  14. I was told last night, at the Billiken Club Board meeting, that 25,000 invitations are going out.
  15. We knew what we were getting with RM, so this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Friends at KFNS tell me that RM is being very difficult about a post-game interview and a weekly call-in show. I'd expect that an assistant coach will be stepping into both of these shows, if KFNS is willing to do a call-in without the head coach. Again, people should expect this, RM is a different type than what's been here in the past. (Hopefully, that's a good thing.)
  16. My take is a little different. While it is certainly debatable, our girls soccer clubs fare just as well as the men nationally. The biggest difference is that women have many more choices than the men. Due to Title IX, there are many more college programs for women than men. St. Louis HS seniors, be it male or female, are going all over the country to play. Champion, until the last 3 or 4 years, has been fairly narrow in his recruiting. He has taken mainly from the cathlolic girls schools, principally St. Joe and Notre Dame. Recently, he has broadened his recruiting to the public schools and the other parochial schools. Next spring when the girls sign their letters of intent, the Post will print them, along with all the other spring sport signinings, and you'll see a number girls going to schools with excellent soccer programs other than SLU.
  17. Broy, I think you forgot that Mark Wright stated that the School's Trustees insisted that 250 seats be made available to the public for every home game.
  18. Directv provides upto 3 or 4 receivers for free. The only charge is $4.95 per month extra for more than one receiver. There is no comparison to Directv and Charter. You do not have to watch the same thing on each TV. They can each watch separate, in fact I frequently split the screen and watch more than one thing on my big screen.
  19. Just curious why you want to direct your thoughts to SLU and not the tv, radio and newspapers? Obviously, SLU would like to have all the exposure they can get, but they have no say so on when an item will be covered. I know the athletic department has been putting the heat on KFNS to increase their coverage of SLU items.
  20. I don't mean to disagree with your friend, but I've had discussions with Mark Wright for well over a year. The only change over that period of time was the amount of donation required for the different seat locations. (they went up after RM was hired) He has remained very consistent in our numerous discussions on the manner that the seat allocation will occur. He also has always said the limit on seats would be 8. Now that the plan has been published, I would doubt if there are any changes made to it. A new AD is not going to have any ability to change the plan.
  21. Sorry, I didn't see this was already posted.
  22. You did a great job! Hate to see you go, but understand that you had to do it.
  23. I don't know anybody that buys one ticket. I'm sure you're right, there are some, but they're in the great minority.
