  1. I do really hope that people did get my sarcasm. Many of my friends from SLU who I still see all the time are SLUH or other private school graduates and I give them crap about this little quirk all the time. As someone who was a transplant to the region, it did seem very odd but I came to understand it and found myself asking the same question. You can learn a lot about a person from their answer.
  2. My best guess is they move back to the county and teach their kids that the most important question to ask someone when you first meet them is "What High School did you go to?" They then teach them that if it is anything other than one of the private catholic schools that those people are beneath them and not worth their time. Please understand that I am being sarcastic (kinda).
  3. This should be the biggest worry. Anything less than 50% and I believe you lose scholarships and transfers count against you.
  4. Careful saying something like this, I said it the other day and was railed for it.
  5. On Slaten's show they compared RM to Mike Kennan. Little early for that.
  6. Some might say that this is karma for the thread making fun of SIU for only scoring 13 in a half. The truth is both of my favorite teams aren't very good this year. Look on the bright side, RM should fix this within 2 years.
  7. I am curoius as to where I have made glaring errors. I am a SLU alumni and live in the STL metro area so I know a little about both . Never have I attacked "your" program or "your" city. I may be wrong about "most SLU alumni are from STL", maybe I should have said that there are more SLU alumni in STL than SIU alumni in Carbondale. Other than that show me one glaring error in facts that attacks "your" city or program. I have never been anything but respectful on this site but I can change that if you would like. Hell, I have even defended brianstl on salukitalk. I like the Bills and many of their fans. You are obviously one of what many people consider the stereotypical SLU fan and the reason many other fanbases hate your school and team so much. *edited because no need for me to go where I went before.
  8. How am I talking garbage. I try to bring rational arguments and facts to most things I post. If I wanted to talk garbage, I would come on here asking if SLU's student attendance was poor because because RM ate them. That would be talking garbage. I wasn't the one who brought SIU up.
  9. SIU has just over 16K undergrads compared to 7K for SLU. I have already stated that I believe SIU attendance to be pathetic. I just feel that SLU's is equally as bad. A better question would be what is the number of SIU alumni still in Carbondale as opposed to the number of SLU alumni still in STL. My guess is that SLU's numbers are a little higher. Yet SLU can still only outdraw SIU by 1600 on average this year. SIU has only had 2 home games while students were on campus as opposed to 4 for SLU. One of those for SIU was a sell out, the other was vs. Northern Illinois and only had a pathetic crowd of 6090. Student attendance at both schools is pathetic. I would guess that on any given game night, there are more SLU students at Humphrey's or Laclede Street than at the game.
  10. Also, no way SIU draws 10K+ a game, the arena doesn't even seat 10K.
  11. SLU has only been above 9000 one time this year and that was the SIU game. The only reason you made 10K that night is because SIU traveled so well. Even so, on a bad night like last night 1 in 5 people from Carbondale were at the game. On SLU's best attended game of the year roughly 1 in 200 STL are people attended and a couple thousand were Saluki fans. I don't buy that the reason people don't attend SLU games is that there is more to do in STL because there is not a whole lot to do in STL. The reason that SLU's relatively low attendance is directly related to the product on the floor. I remember some incredible crowds in 97-98 when SLU had a decent team and Larry Hughes. Should SIU draw larger crowds because of their success, absolutely but 5000 people at a game when students are on break is still a decent crowd based upon the area SIU draws from. Most SIU alumni are from the Chicago area and would have a 5-6 hour drive to see a game. Most SLU alumni are from the STL area but I am not surprised that they don't attend games. Even when they were students they only left their comfort zone in the county for class. I haven't been around many universities but of those that I have been around, SLU has the most apathetic student base. It should be no suprise that students and alumni don't attend games.
  12. It has always been there at home. I wouldn't be surprised if we were 9-0 in Valley play at home and still finish with a 9-9 Valley record. We are that bad on the road. Don't worry about me parking, my yard is small, I only have a lawn tractor, it is small enough to park, even in the compact car parking.
  13. I ask a legitimate question and receive a smart ass response. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I just question it because I was down looking at the new area over the weekend and noticed the closest parking SLU had availabe was the Compton garage. Since most SLU season ticket holders are collecting Social Security, I was wondering what they would think about walking down Compton on cold winter nights. Didn't think about Harris Stowe. and ISU is in Bloomington by the way. We have already played there so I don't think we will be going back. Bradley is in Peoria.
  14. SIU's attendance is pathetic considering their recent success. That said, seems to me than SLU has more attendance problems that SIU has. Looking at box scores, SIU's average attendance is 6744 and SLU's is 8314. SIU draws from a town of 25,000 and SLU draws from a metro area of millions. SLU fans should probaby worry about their own attendance problems before they concern themselves with a team and conference that they say they don't care about. With your new hall of fame coach you think people would be more excited and attending games but just as always SLU is still sitting behind Mizzou and Illinois in importance to the STL area. What do you think will happen to attendance at the new arena which seats less people and has no parking available?
  15. Sorry, I meant potential 2009. 2008 isn't that good.
  16. With the transfer of Legion and their 2008 class, I believe Weber has fixed his recruiting problems.
  17. I would take the win as well. Our RPI will go up as well because even in a down year, the bottom of the MVC is not as bad as the bottom of the A-10. The top of the A-10 is much stronger but you have to win those games before they help the RPI.
  18. and still have a lower RPI. Shows you how good of a stat it is.
  19. Sure but I am not a MVC homer. Would I like the conference to do well because I am a SIU fan? Yes but at the end of the year, I could care less if SIU gets the only Valley bid or if the conference gets 4 bids. I only care what my team has done. I don't care if the Valley is 30th in RPI as long as the dawgs are good. I would take Gonzaga's situation every year, good non-conference schedule to make up for weak conference. Wouldn't bother me at all. If you look at previous posts here, I have said the same thing. I think I had the exact same quote in the Kent State game thread and no one had any issue with it, in fact some people here agreed with me. Now that the two conferences have switched places I am of course an idiot. Anyway, congratulations SLU has the 7th best RPI in the 6th rated conference in the country and Merry Christmas.
  20. 6th-10th is basically the same. Even though the A-10 is ranked higher they have still only managed a 3-3 record against Valley teams. Seems pretty even to me.
  21. Don't you all ever get tired of this stupid debate? Last I heard SLU wasn't in the MVC and had no desire to be there. Just because some media people in STL bring up the subject occationally doesn't mean anything. Remember these are the same media people that think MU is a major program.
  22. There are many better one's. This one seemed safe to post.
