Not really.   In Grawer's last year at SLU, most all of his guys quit, ran out of eligibility/graduated:  Robinson, Skinner, Dillard, Irvin.  Others left such as Bickel, Grant, Winfield and Grawer's son.  The only 2 left were Claggett (who was all but gone to N. Iowa) and HIghmark (who was on his way to Mizzou).  It was a terrible year - a real low point.  Spoon came and probably did his best job recruiting Highmark and Claggett to get them to stay -- b/c they joined a talented group of upperclassmen and came in as Freshmen with a large group of mostly AAU/Eagles.   I think it was much tougher to keep Claggett and Highmark after that terrible year and all they went through than it was for Grawer to recruit them in the first place.

i stand corrected , memory is getting fuzzy

They’re a real special breed down there

According to mu message boards only bess would get any playing time  in columbia. So why would they want a lower tier castoff like hargrove? they believe that if they were in the a-10 they would win the conference easily. go billikens

Well, you have to consider all the SLU-hating Mizzou fans coming on to gloat, but they weren't coming yesterday because their team's season is over and they weren't interested in being here yesterday trying to concoct some specious reasoning to explain their undying delusion of being the self-entitled "only  'major' program in the state."

i read the mu board, mu would have gone 18-0 in the a10 and 3-0 in the tournament. they really believe that

In the last 50 years (aka since the rise to preeminence of the NCAA Tournament), how many SLU coaches have led THEIR OWN team to the NCAA tournament? Two until today - Spoonhour and Majerus.

Mad love to Coach Ford for joining an elite group and putting our dancing shoes back on.

    Spoon had grawer recruits iirc

  5. After getting an opportunity to meet the team at vcu, i just got the sense that these coaches and players are decent guys. I suppose i could be proven wrong but i certainly hope not. It was nothing short of remarkable that you can win 4 in 4 with 6-7 players two of which are hobbled. The a -10 is tougher than they are given credit and our guys still won. of course according to spumac fans ford cant coach and the tigers would have gone 21-0 in conference and 3-0 in the tournament and not a single a-10 player could make their roster. I for one am most thankful to have ford and his staff. looking forward to playing this next weekend and seeing a big uptick in recruiting

Honest question what makes you feel this way?

My opinion is that I hope both stay they will be a big part of the team next season and I would think both would feel that way.

With so many new members next season if both of these guys have great summers and stay healthy could start or get a lot of playing time.

When I look at next season I see French, Goodwin and Perkins as starters the other positions is wide open for Jacobs and KC.

I watched Collins over the weekend and he moves the ball up court really well and found the open guys by the basket but is he ready to start as a freshman?

If collins doesnt start, who does? jacobs? some freshman will have to play a lot of minutes at the guard spot unless a juco or transfers comes in

speaking of goodwin free throws, i noticed Wednesday night whenever jordan was at the line, he wasnt even looking at the rim until he was starting his motion to shoot.   he probably doesnt even know he is doing that.   watching the rim or back of the rim as i think most good shooters look at, would seem to be the first thing needed to start the focus on shooting the shot.    again, with ford being one of the best free throw/shooters in history, why is this even a problem with our team?

goodwin has a couple hitches when he shoots ft's and on his release he shoots the ball forward instead of up and most misses are long

Hypothetically,  let's say Ford recruited Jimerson, Perkins, Hargrove and Collins with the promise of playing time being available.  They sign and Coach then brings in Grad Transfers that take those available minutes.  What are your thoughts on that?  Just curious

I dont think a coach can make pt promises and then stop recruiting, that would be in no one's best interest. I dont know what ford's sales pitch is but i doubt he promise x number of minutes if you come here. Bring on the best players you can get and try to win now

  9. You bring in the best players you can get. If good freshmen are not available and who you believe will develope, then GT is the way to go. you have them for one year hope they contribute and the schollie is available for the following year. Roster churn is what college basketball is now and with the loosening of transfer rules players will come and go
