  1. I don't think we would have dropped them, but you never know. My dad and I just said we would talk about our options after the season, thinking they would drop some season ticket prices.
  2. Yeah, the plan right now is for us to ditch our $450 season tickets from this year for the $280 seats. Just makes more sense for us and I'm guessing the $280 seats are still pretty good.
  3. I'm a journalist and that was a terrible column - names spelled wrong, grammar errors, etc.
  4. Yeah, blaming the coach for TL dropping out of school at this point doesn't make any sense to me. He didn't have to deal with Majerus anymore.
  5. This column loses all sorts of credibility with me because of all the spelling and grammatical errors. How does this get published? Wow, great writing.
  6. So you say just play him even if it puts the team at a disadvantage. Makes perfect sense. I'm sure Kevin and Tommie would love that approach. You should be the coach.
  7. I think I have mentioned this on the board before, but Romar wanted to red shirt Suggs and another freshman this season. Suggs didn't want to red shirt.
  8. I agree that the Bills would not have won if the refs were different. The Bills played a bad game and didn't deserve to win. But with that said, the handchecking by the Carbondale was out of control. There is no reason to let that go. My dad and I were at the game and he was a high school and college ref for 20-plus years. He NEVER complains about officiating since he knows the demands. He always gives the refs the benefit of the doubt, but he even said that there was no reason to let that stuff go. That meant more to me than anything said on this board. That game was brutal to watch. The Salukis had their hands all over the Bills as soon as they crossed half court.
  9. You guys have me sold. I'm going. Thanks for the tip.
  10. What is this place in Murphysboro you guys are speaking of? We are looking for something decent to eat before the game and have never really been to this area. I'm always up for some good BBQ.
  11. I was told that Romar wanted Suggs to redshirt this year and Suggs didn't want to (he apparently asked three freshmen). I find it hard to believe a guy like Suggs can't get off the bench.
  12. I used to work for the Journals here in town and we always criticized the lack of prep coverage in the Post. But I do think it is much, much better than in the past. They usually have at least a couple pages of full coverage in the weekend sections. I still think there has to be enough room to have a SLU preview, though. As I wrote to Hollway, I don't understand whey we have about a half page dedicated to a Women's College Basketball Notebook in the paper today over a SLU preview - no offense to women's college basketball. But how does that get priority over SLU - his response to that: The Women's Final Four is in St. Louis this year, so we'll be beefing up that coverage throughout the season.
  13. His email is: [email protected]. The biggest thing I commend him on is he responded to my email in 7 minutes - that was the most impressive part of the email.
  14. I copied and pasted it right into this post. I got the same feeling as you, being talked down to a bit. I know a little about journalism and it is supposed to be unbiased - this doesn't seem like an unbiased slant. My other problem is SLU had over 9,000 at the game Saturday, so that proves right there the interest in the game. I love all the expanded high school coverage (one thing I think they are doing right), but I'm guessing not a single high school game in the area drew 9,000 fans Saturday. Just a hunch.
  15. FYI- here is a reply I got from Hollway today: In last Wednesday's paper, we advanced the big early-season tests that SLU has on its sked, including BC (which actually isn't a very good team, so if that's the toughest nonconference game, that's pretty weak. I'd say playing at SIUC will be more of a test.). Anyway, we foresaw a very busy weekend in which we'd have a hard time getting the BC advance in the Saturday paper, and so we went with a theme angle on Wednesday, for the Kent State and BC advances combined. That doesn't signal a change in philosophy, just that we had too much going on to fit into that section (we did advance SLU volleyball and cover SLU soccer in that paper). ... So, it's too early to say that we won't preview SLU games. A non-conference game at Nebraska? No. ... We're in the crossover schedule, when we have football and basketball going on, and so we have really tight sections.
  16. Yes, that is it. Again, I apologize for posting this topic. I feel like an idiot since it apparently had nothing to do with the Billiken game at all. You know how stories build and get out of control, though. But either way, I should know better being in journalism.
  17. Yeah, I apologize. There is a story in the paper today on this. Obviously, the story (as can happen) got lost in translation somewhere. He might have been at the Billiken game during the day or something - that is all I can gather. Again, sorry for this erroneous post, but I wish this man a speedy recovery - just terrible for something like this to happen at this time of the year.
  18. Just to be clear, I'm not making up what I was told. My dad called me first thing tonight after returning from a meeting at church. This is the information he was told. Said the guy was shot six times all below the waist and is finally strong enough to go through surgery. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if the story was somehow a bit different since I got it secondhand, but that is what I know. If I find anything else out, I'll post. I agree, though, you would think this story would be on one of the news outlets here in town.
  19. I couldn't find a story on this anywhere, but wondering if any heard of a shooting after the game Saturday. I have sketchy details, but a guy from my dad's parish was apparently shot on his way to his car from the Billiken game Saturday. He was supposedly shot six times and is still alive. Apparently, he left early to go to his kid's game or something and was alone at the game, so there might not have been many around. I also have no idea where he parked. Just wondering if any heard about this or have any further info. Like I said, I got this second hand from a source that tends to screw stories up - sorry dad.
  20. Brian, I normally like and agree with many of your posts. But I think you are way off here. I think the fans that have casual interest in the program and went to a handful of games because the tickets were reasonable are the exact fan SLU should be trying to attract. That was me. I have no affliation with the school whatsoever. I like college basketball and enjoy following SLU. I got season tickets with my dad a few years back because I could get them for a great, cheap price. I was on the fence about this year because tickets were more than triple what I was paying for one of my two season tickets. I decided to keep them because of the new building. Do you really want to drive away fans like my dad and I? If so, why? SLU needs new fans. Winning will do it, but cheaper tickets doesn't hurt by any means. We need to create a buzz and getting people in that building for a game like today would certainly help.
  21. Great post. I totally agree. They need to get some excitement going for this program. And charging a guy that isn't a die hard fan $25 for a cheap seat in our building is asking too much. You are not going to get many newcomers aboard with that gameplan. Heck, I have trouble justifying myself spending $450 for season tickets - just ask my wife
  22. Anyone know the sports editor these days? I would like to write a letter or email complaining about this issue. It really is a joke. This paper continues to go downhill.
  23. Could someone translate that last post for me? Was that in English?
  24. Game wasn't very good to watch. But to quote the great Tommy Boy, "I have seen some things in my day, but that halftime show was awesome." The guy next to me summed it up well - words won't do justice to what we just saw when we go to describe it to someone tomorrow. I really think that was the highlight of the night. Basketball was not great.
