How about employing Manute Bol's corpse as an assistant? He can coach the big men. He is very black. He can recruit from the Dinka tribe. We could have had Luol Deng if Soderberg would have acted on this when he was hired.

Don't really understand your argument here. You are comparing a league with a huge amount of foreign players, a huge draft pool, and a massive minor league system to a league with no minor league system (for draft purposes the NBDL does not count) and does not allow teams to sign 16 year olds. Completely apples to oranges.

I do like Harriman a lot. I don't think he is ready to be a head coach in 2 years, but definitely in 4. So I guess it depends on what the big man wants to do. A lot depends on how the program fares for the next few years. If we are on a Butler/X type run of 3-4 straight NCAAs, it makes a lot of sense to promote from within and Harriman seems the likely choice at this juncture.

Quite the staff they're assembling. Larry Brown as HC. Tim Jankovich as AHC/coach in waiting. Add in Jerrance Howard and Rodd Strickland as assistants. Good for them. I'd like to see SLU buck up and name a coach in waiting in a year or two.

I'm not going to comment on the guard, because I have never heard of him up until a week ago. GG wasn't a typical late spring signing. He was a highly recruited guy going to a top 30 program until the coach left. He was a 3 star (useless I know) recruit with offers from the BE, SEC, B12, etc. All indications are that he will be a contributor soon.

Ideal situation if they can pay Brown 2mm a year and then find an associate head coach to take over in 4-5 years and pay him an attractive salary.

Brad wasn't out recruiting Rhodes Scholars. In fact I would venture to guess Brad recruited many, many more poor students than Rick ever has. Without dragging grads names, guys like Obi Ikeakor and Horace Dixon were just the tip of the iceberg. There was a PF during my time at SLU who could barely read the comments the teachers wrote on his failed tests.

Horace was the icing on the cake of probably the worst recruiting class in SLU history. Maguire, Knollmeyer, Dixon, and Obi. And two of those guys were 3 star recruits. Looking back it shows you how useless "stars" are.

+1000. Biondi has outlived his usefulness at SLU in many areas including the athletic department.

Couldn't we find a spot for Horace Dixon? Academic adviser? Physics tutor?

Now let us delete all these threads and pretend this never happened... Hopefully the big guy got all charter flights, more money for assistants, and a better pre-game spread out of this.

I would be very disappointed if this happens (i don't think it won't), and even more disappointed if we hired some assistant coach from anywhere. The only guy moderately appealing is Sutton from Oral Bob, but he has cockteased more schools than any coach in the country. Not a huge fan of Rob Jeter at Milwaukee or Paul Lusk from SMS. While I like Harriman, I still think he is a few years off from being a viable head coach. Ideally Rick stays 3-4 more years, Harriman is setup in a Matt Painter way and voila.
