I just wrote the longest post I wrote in a LONG time, and as I was writing it, it became useless... Welcome home Tommie! Steve

Well Billikens.com is hopping this week, I thought that I may chime in with my thoughts. I don't think UNLV is to blame, I still think it is all this Lewis guy promoting that tournament in Las Vegas. It would just be too stupid to do that sort of thing, and from what I read on the UNLV message board, I think their coach isn't like the man we all know and love in Columbia, MO. Although if UNLV did use Lewis as an agent, or a middle-man, I hope Brad throws a fit about it, and I bet he will. I just think of the Southern Miss home game this year. If he threw that big of a fit with just one game that didn't directly affect SLU, think about this situation with a player that he has recruited for a long time (and probably got a few cramps in the wrist from all of those handwritten letters he sent Tommie). As for the recruitment of Tommie, I say don't give up, but don't beg. We seem to have his parents on our side, according to p diddy, and if I were Brad, I would let them do the hounding on Tommie. But I don't think Brad should sell SLU again, I think he should say. We still want you, but we are not going to play these games. Do you want me to coach you and do you want to play for me or not? Tommie earlier in some interview (I want to say it was on KSDK), said that he looked forward to learning a lot under Brad, and become a better player with his coaching. I believed Tommie then, and I don't think it was him just playing nice for the cameras. There was simply too much Tommie & SLU love for Tommie to be long gone...The aforementioned interview, the talk of him and Polk becoming buddies, that article two weeks ago. In my fandom of SLU, I don't think I ever saw such a lovefest... Why would he do those sorts of things if he did not want to go to SLU? I have no idea how one Sports Agent could start this fiasco, but he did. Although, I think Tommie's parents will have a huge impact on him. Many could argue that Tommie's parents won't have an impact, but Tommie said that recruiters could just talk to his dad a couple of weeks ago. There is a difference between saying, I will say no to them, and they can talk to my dad. A teen who does not listen to their dad, would never send recruiters to his dad. Therefore I believe that Tommie's parents will talk to him, and help him out. But the argument must also be made that he probably has gotten a fair amount of ribbing committing to SLU. SLU is not a sexy name in the world of college basketball, it simply isn't. I love SLU to death, and I hope I don't have to defend that in my criticism. But in the past 3 years, the Athletic Director and a Head Basketball coach abandoned SLU for other jobs. It happens a lot, I get ribbed for SLU, and we have all experienced it. Not as many people as we think have ever heard of it's basketball program, and at these camps, and in school Tommie's peers let him know about it. It must wear on a kid when peer pressure is huge. This agent probably made all those worries and wear & tear of peer pressure of going to an unsexy school go away. I hope though that Tommie's parents can talk him beyond the peer pressure, and show him that he could be a star at SLU, and show everyone that they are wrong about SLU...The question is will he realize he is the star, and if he is as good as he thinks he is, he should be able to stand out anywhere. Overall, I think the situation is the following...This agent guy got Tommie talking about UNLV some, he probably knew that Tommie was recruited by them under Spoon. Then the agent held a press conference probably with no press and no Tommie and announced this thing. It makes for a juicy story so it gets reported everywhere. But the one thing that I am puzzled on is that Brad said Tommie's recruitment has been reopened, but no official thing from SLU. The release from a LOI would be big news. So how is the recruitment open. Tommie is still a Billiken until the Fall. SLU made a press release regarding Ryan Hollins a couple of years back, I assume there would be one for Tommie as well if he was in fact released. Therefore I view the recruitment as closed, unless someone else can explain it to me. Do I think that we will see the name Liddell on the back of a Billiken uniform in a year and a half...Well, I am thinking that it is less likely than it was last week, but I still expect to see him play at the Smith Center at 20 & G in DC against the mighty Colonials in 2006. But...remember...this is coming from a person who has never seen Tommie in person, and only knows him through the news and message boards...Jalensdad and others on this board know much more than I do, but I thought I would post my thoughts... Steve PS I met John Edwards today, just thought I would throw that in

I honestly haven't made up my mind. I am personally not a huge fan of the idea. I like keeping this board Billiken Pure (to an extent), but I like politics, St. Louis talk, and other topics. I don't like tinkering with things that work. I will make my final decision when I get around to redesigning Billikens.com, which will be sometime this summer. Steve -

I think the more "hiding" of Kerry can be attributed to: 1) Fundraising (That made him Disappear somewhat in later March and Early April) 2) Bush's Rough Time (Why attack your opponent and potentially look bad, when things are bad enough for him (It would have been hard to treat the prisoner situation from Kerry's perspective) 3) Reagan (As soon as Bush was getting over his rough times, and Kerry needed to come on the offensive, he had to take a week off) 4) Clinton (Clinton's book is tying up the headlines) If you notice now, Kerry is announcing more things, like some Education plans and such. Hopefully we will see more of Kerry, but that is what I blame the hiding on. Hopefully now that money is raised and such, Kerry will get more headlines. Steve -

>i am against deficits and wasteful spending. but it is so >funny to see the liberals join that bandwagon. For years >liberals have been telling me that a large deficit is good >for the economy. they bitterly complain now that Bush has >one. they have been for more spending programs for years. >the only reason they are yelping now is that that is about >the only thing they have to attack Bush. just watch what >they will say when Bush starts to cut spending, as I hope he >Dean, Kerry et al criticize Bush as an >overspender. then they enumerate all the new federal >programs they will have. if you think that any current >candidate will underspend Bush, listen to their speeches. How can you claim that the Dems will NOT underspend President Bush. President Bush did pass the largest health care initiative since the Great Society. He has yet to veto a spending bill. And to top all of that there were the tax cuts...He is a no-tax and spend Republican...That formula cannot last forever. Not all democrats are Big Spenders, as in all republicans are part of the Bible Belt. I am a Democrat who considers himself Fiscally Conservative. And if you look at what happened in the Primaries, John Kerry is probably the most (possibly second to Lieberman) fiscally conservative Democrat from the Primaries. That has to say something, maybe things are somewhat shifting. Not dramatically, but somewhat. Steve -

AJ. I completely mistyped, I meant that Republicans are the big spenders of the day (as was implied by my post about Bush not vetoing anything). Sorry bout this, should of read it over before I posted. My mistake. Steve -

I understand Clinton's position on the Iraq situation, but he believes that the diplomatic steps taken in getting to the war were poor choices. He believes, and states, that Bush should have let the weapons inspectors fully complete their jobs amongst other things (I cannot state off the top of my head). That isn't exactly what was done. I believe that Bush jumped to using force too quickly. The war would have been more justified if we would have excercised all possibilities through the UN and the Diplomatic Process. But it seems as Bush was eager to go to war with Iraq, and I think he should have excercised more diplomatic options and gotten the support of the UN (as Father Bush did) before going in. My views are not completely in agreement with President Clintons, as slufanskip's views are not in complete agreement with Bush's in terms of spending, and I doubt your views agree completely with President Bush's. I don't see the right that America had to take over another country and impose our views on them. I think this part of my previous post covers that well. --------- As for the Middle East/Democracy, I personally believe that a Democratic Republic is the best system of government. But I don't think it is America's job to forcibly say that it is. It is one thing when a country maybe comes and asks for our help, but it is another to take the initiative on our own. What gives us the right to always say that it should be only our way? And that is the beef that I have with the Iraq situation. Not the theories of Michael Moore, or the oil, or whatnot. But I do not like how we forcibly took over a sovereign nation to impose our views. --------- Hopefully that makes sense, Steve -

I understand that there are Iraq-Osama and Iraq-Terrorism links, but Saddamm did not have anything really to do with 9/11, so I am curious why Iraq? I understand and not blaming it on oil. Never have. I do have my own theories on why we went to Iraq, but they are not significantly rooted/supported by fact, they are just sort of hunches. So I ask, why Iraq? Addressing the other things you mentioned... I also understand that Freedom is the core of our society, and I am more with Locke than Hobbes (But I will not state that Freedom is the only thing, equality needs to come in some cases). I am not really wanting to go into a union debate (I am not extremely informed, I am sure you know more), but I just think that Unions are doing what is in their best interest. As you were when you fired those 12 employees for stealing. They have more power in numbers, so might as well use it. My opinions on personal injury lawyers aren't really defined because I simply don't know, not trying to cop out, but its the truth. Regarding the rich, capitalism is an excellent way for economies/societies to function. But I will not say it is perfect. And the government can be part of the solution of its imperfections. I am more of a government is the problem person, but it can serve its purpose to be solutionary. ---- As for the Middle East/Democracy, I personally believe that a Democratic Republic is the best system of government. But I don't think it is America's job to forcibly say that it is. It is one thing when a country maybe comes and asks for our help, but it is another to take the initiative on our own. I will not argue that Iraq will be worse off after US Involvement, compared to prior to. Your list and numbers show this. But what right did we have to go to Iraq. What right did America have to go invade and overthrow that sovereign nation? It was blanketed under the War on Terror and 9/11. But there are no links between 9/11 and Saddam. So I still ask why are we there? -We easily could have invested time into places in Africa, like Sudan, and helped prevent deaths from AIDS. -We could have invested time into the North Korea situation, and maybe finally have closure to the situation there. -Why couldn't of we investing time into other countries, like Saudi Arabia, and worked on bring democracy there? I am just confused, why Iraq? And even if I know why.... Why are so many Americans' lives being lost for this war? Couldn't of more diplomatic actions taken. Maybe let the weapons inspections complete...Maybe we could have worked with the United Nations, and not strong armed it as we did...The process in getting into this war was not done as well as it could have been done, and that is a negative for America. I am happy that things like on your list are looking up, but I still question how we got there. I don't think those are too crazy of concerns from this Democrat. Steve -

> Shut up ... you are an idiot. Here why don't you Democrats >just come by my business and pick up a check ... why route >it through the Government ... you can just pick it up and >distribute it yourself. I would just like to mention the fact that us Democrats aren't the ones not vetoing any spending bills...Republicans are distributing quite well under their leader... Steve -
That is just ridiculous...How could he do that? We are in for some fun in the next 4 years.. Steve

Heading back to DC tomorrow (Sunday). I don't know when I will have my internet set up, but it should be relatively quickly. But I am sure you guys will be fine. Steve Sometimes I wonder if I should post these little updates. Eh, couldn't hurt.
