Count me in the "High on Crawford" camp. I think he saw what he needed to do to succeed in D1 last year and worked on his weaknesses. Always struck me as a real gym rat, heady type player...

Just doesn't pass the "eye-test". (if experts can use that when they don't have a real reason, then so can I). That comment was more a compliment to Rob then it was an indictment of JM. Lancona guarded some big men last year and has experience with getting in good positional defense. That technique (plus a well-timed double team) provides more value to the team then having a lost baby giraffe out there just because he is 3 inches taller.

Rob Loe played the some of the best defense in all of D1 for a Center last year. I am much more worried about that loss then McCall, Jett and Evans. There will be a signficant dropoff with Manning in there....then if we put freshmen centers out there to spell Manning for long stretches, people like Jerrell Wright out of LaSalle will score 50 points on us. I think the better tactic is to just forget about who is labeled a 5 and run RA and/or TL out there to guard the opposing 5.

A walk on better not get into the game unless the game is already decided. AM and GG are definitely going to take over the Kyle Cassity/Jake Barnett whipping boy role this season.

JMM - I classify the scenario surrounding these protests as 100% unprecedented. This movement has the attention of the entire nation and holds the potential to affect SLU positively or negatively for decades. Other unhappy groups (like fraternities) do not compel the national media machine like the Ferguson movement does. SLU operated in a completely different manner which was the right move IMO.

I am 100% fine with concessions. It is better than the alternative which we have seen in other places of, "don't change anything, bring in a police presence and pray for an early winter". SLU earns an absolute A+ for crisis management. I am not sure if this acts as a benefit for SLU but it definitely avoids potential disaster.

Reminds me of Engineering Chemistry class when the power went out for 5 mins during a 2 hour Chemistry final exam. I was slated to earn about a 40% (apparently along with the rest of the class). However, somehow we made the case (read:whined and complained enough) to the prof that the power going out was catastrophically detrimental to our chemistry aptitude. He then made it that test grade count only if it helped your grade. What a great feeling.

I kind of feel for the students as well. They came to SLU to get an education, not to be injected into St Louis City's problems surrounding the relationship between police and locals. Social Justice is in the SLU DNA so they have to deal with this situation in a nuanced manner. At some point though a disruption will have to be classified as exactly what it is....a disruption. In the spirit of finding compromise and stemming unrest....I do not think that the wearing of cameras for all police officers is that outrageous of a demand.

I am not sure who should redshirt, but it would be nice if someone would for the long term success of the team. True freshmen at SLU do not have a history of contributing and we always end up wanting one more year out of them when they eventually become seniors (Cory Remuken comes immediately to mind).

Jolly would be a big step down from Manning in the "defensive presence" department. If Ash was our best player LAST year, then wow, I might start talking trash to everyone saying we will be going back to the dance. A starting line up of: Manning TL RA AY McBroom (or someone else) ...Does not finish 10th in the A-10.

While I see your point, he knows that this where his friends and family will watch him play every game. His high school friends are not driving to Columbia or Lawrence to watch him play more than a couple times at the most. I laugh when the Mizzou tweeps tout staying at home...that is SLU not Mizzou. If it comes down to measuring the rabidness of fan bases on social media between us, Kentucky, Kansas, and SPUMAC...well....let's just hope that is not anywhere near a deciding factor.

Will someone just break into a practice already? This season might be the best combination of question marks and excitement. The "Depth" comment from Tanner is intriguing....hopefully we can go with 9-10 man rotation.

Oh man, we are going to miss Loe... But look at the overtime players. Lancona, McBroom and Manning for long stretches. I would wager my mortgage that we are not going to finish 10th in conference this year.
