  1. Saint Louis is not an island and Diversity does not pre-empt appreciation for traditions and guidelines. The Jews adopted and adapted to pagan or cult natural rites of spring, harvest, etc. The Christians took on and modified the teaching of the old testament. The moslems and protestants did not start from scratch, either. Asians have trusted herbal, medical, scientific and mathematical cultural heritage and in some cases religions monotheistic or in the cases of Greeks, Romans and other sections of time and geography people filled in the voids with whatever strongmen or leaders taught. i graduated 55 years ago and the Jesuit curriculum offered me Old testament from a strong bible belt baptist woman and a Jesuit teaching modern religions that insisted Eastern rite, Lutherans, Anglicans and Catholics pretty much were cut out of the same cloth and the Roman Catholic church had periods of corruption and people like Martin Luther were correct in bringing the point up. My third choice was the “marriage course”. At the time I went- 9 hours of theology and 12 hours if philosophy were mandatory in undergrad and religion and ethics were pretty limited in the MBA program. A couple of history courses were required as well. If you did a PHD it was required to be fluent in German or French as a second language in most dusciplines. I doubt many catholics would turn down basketball scholarships at TCU or SMU. If you are holding a glass half full yours seems to be have full of a lot of negatives and I would like people to point out the many positives of attending Saint Louis University. I am in Montreal at the moment and it is flooded with young people shopping near the old port and Saint Laurent Seaway. Some old people are saying the government in Ottawa has stacked the deck in favor of Toronto. Shipping, Warehousing, Refrigeration do no drive the economy as they once did. Turn to the real estate section it says housing down 3.7 percent 2023 and predict up 4.3 percent for 2024- then look at the adds fir houses in okd Westmount $15million, $25 million and $30 million dollar asking prices. i always thought city schools best the hell out of rural ones in many ways. If you want to take music appreciation or be a music major you can actually walk down the treet to the Symphony- we used to get student discounts. If you are an art major we have free access to the Art Museum in Forest Park. If you want to be a history major we have a great History museum on Lindell Blvd (the other street our university fronts). if you want to be a poli sci major our city is full of pilitical intrigue and opportunities to volunteer or even run for office. Slu kids volunteer to plant and care for parks such as Lafayette Square and Shaw park or get involved in Forest Park Forever. I am thinking there are many benefits to a city school and you get stopped by some sort of Ivory Tower isolation ideal. You don’t have to have cows and grassland to do experiments on milk- you need ideas, books, labs and to be taught experimental regimen so you your results are accurate and replicable. My daughter went to Suffolk Law School in Boston because it was near the courts- now SLU law is on Tucker across the street from the courthouse and two blocks from the federal building, three from city hall and Five from the Eagleton Court building, six or seven from the Police headquarters. We have had SLU basketball players study criminology and juvenile justice. Ssint Louis is a hub for Physical Therapy and the hospitals are writing scrips for those every day. Maybe you have an idea about the tip if this iceberg? Our city and its faults are opportunities for learning and correction.
  2. The quality of the student body is screened for like minded people who are willing to serve the community while learning a proven system of thinking. Being in the A10 gives you access on a priority basis to graduate school if you are qualified within the conference. Saint Louis University is offering a Jesuit education that has a reputation for superior training and success after graduation. You may wish to add what you found importsnt if you were lucky to be accepted and attended classes at SLU. Some of you may be second generation SLU grads or parents thst met at SLU. Remind others why you have high regards for Saint Louis University. Think of the success stories of Luchtefelds or Larry Hughes family with multiple students choosing SLU. it is not just about a good basketball facility- it is a way of life
  3. Still no firm committment that Forte snd Brock Vice have committed anywhere? Vegas or Texas? I guess there is no tampering if letters of enrollment contracts have not been signed whatever the legsl status is? So no concern on our part if Forte quit taking Brock or if he lost Brock and got fired? Too bad either way as Ford was certainly trying to help Forte and has little to show for it now. Now we are down two recruiters? Or just one?
  4. Okoro and Forester both had trouble catching the ball in some games- Okoro was easy to defend by a small looking to ****** the ball. unless our guards for 2023 -2024 know how to pass to bigs we are better off with control the boards-rebounders instead of catch snd shoot three point shooters who will be splitting Jimmerson’s chances
  5. Looks like Phil Forte is going to be on staff at North Texas working for coach Hodge
  6. We have had others with a nose forvthe ball and desire- Scott Highmark was one
  7. Majerus like to “save” coaches who were sidelined in the careers, I think. Clearly Crews was not a good restart.
  8. Correct Jensen was the athletic big with the moves I saw- time warped my recollection- must be a chrve like gravity
  9. Yes and I got to watch him coach our bigs and he was a world apart from the coach for bigs we had with Soderberg. Chris Harriman knew the position and was young enough to enact the moves not just talk about it. Not saying get him today but since you bring it up we sure had and lost a great down under connection. You would think with Kevin Lisch, Brian Conklin, Cody Ellis, etc. we would have continued that vein. Same can be said of the Grrek connection although Voyoukis was a late bloomer and others could not run with American competition.
  10. We need rebounders and people like Luke Meyers who had a nose for the ball- we had too much standing around being polite in the last two years
  11. We have not had a “Big” expert ooach since the Majerus protoge’ we lost to Nebraska; we despatately need someone coaching eings and guards to steal passes. Thames, TJ Hargrove, and Hughes2 all have ling arms and quick hands and should be fearless going for steals- the obvious is if you pursue the ball sometimes your man keeps the ball and has an open lane to the basket.
  12. I heard something on radio last week thst a SLu runner had a national best time in something? Is there a schedule of events posted somewhere? The track at Compton Ave. is pretty easy to get to snd they have bleacher seats. It is not as scenic as Wash U track and field but with Top Golf building a block away I could see more people bring aware of track and other sports like baseball or softball. STL Cardinals maybe be an early fizzle if Marmol is starting the season running iff a second center fielder in two years.
  13. Money for the women’s program? Will they also go to a preseason tournament? Will they have NIL money for recruits or retainees?
  14. Last year Umass won and Loyola Chicago, Murray State, Colorado, Boise State all participated- had we won against UMass we would have had a better season. I am going to try to go but will check weather for golf as well-no it is not Maui but we do have to step it up a notch. MBM whi stay home and whine are a mid major problem
  15. Martin Linssen was every bit as good as Okoro and better than Forrester. Linseen took up space better than those two and had better hands. The team played better when Linssen was on the floor. NIL money might have jept him here another year.
  16. Bigs are sometimes slow developers- the Greek Vouyokis (spelling) was happy to take up space on the bench first two years and senior year it was why did he not show up earlier
  17. I did watch Cian Medley in the throne high school tournament. He is quick and likes to pass but shows a little offense with decent technique on free throws. I do like the way he guards the ball; it did look like he disappeared on offense, sometimes- but with TV and highschoolers maybe the boys recruited by Kentucky were not giving him the ball back, anyway
  18. I am all in on getting a power forward that can dominate the boards
  19. Porter Moser will have to reload Noland has potential and the size Ford likes in his guards: 229 pounds supposedly. If he can get after the ball like Fred Thatch Jr we could use help. A former Top 100 men’s basketball entered the NCAA’s transfer portal. C.J. Noland will intend to transfer from the Oklahoma Sooners. Noland, who was once ranked 87th on 247Sports’ Composite Rankings in 2021, will now be on the move after two years of fairly limited action.
  20. 41-22 NJ over Queens time out going to end of first half
  21. Cian medley a flashy passer has his team up 28-15 NJ avalanche vs Queens, Royals
  22. Channel 43 Fox Sports? High school basketball until 9:30
  23. Can he dribble better and see the floor better- I liked Yuri but I was expecting to get a lot better at protecting the ball and stealing the ball. Too many times he got snuck up from behind
  24. Anyone know if Gibson Jimerson is on a path to be the first basketball player to earn a PHD while playing for one school?
