  1. see the end of the streak; it started with boston winning the series; see it continue by the Bills winning 2, 3. 4, etc.
  2. do they have that category? because if there is anything the coach has been trying to do for two years is get more than 3 players in the game and tonight it looked like he had a team full; not necessarily my pick for starters but if the bench plays better off the bench you can't help but think maybe this team will attract some more recruits-maybe lefthanded guards that can shoot jumpers-anyone griping about that set of Luke Meyer's tonight?
  3. I am not suggesting we play all Gonzagas and UNC type games, But we certainly get better fan interest with teams that Cusumano does not have to explain as Richmond being really old school- although I never considered South Florida as "in our league". Seems we were originally to play them on Saturday night (last night); instead of being off TV locally because of the football game. Evidently, our negotiator decided we would give them an extra nights rest after their Cincy game; very cordial guests we are., I wonder if they would return the favor?
  4. how far in adavance does this happen? it seems this year because of our entrance to the A-10 it did not fall into place too gracefully and we end up in the alley in St. Charles for two games; if the Blues settle their problems in the NHL and the hockey league doesn't crumble with Lemieux retiring, maybe the answer for Brad's teams is schedule better RPI teams as we play down to the competitions level and we play up to the name schools. Brad's teams really seem like they would like to be Davids to Goliaths.
  5. I was afraid for this kid to be on the floor for the exhibition games; reminded me of the talented kid that we got for a few games out of Teutopolis, Illinois and he blew out his ACL plus; Illinios had passed on him and we needed him so badly we let him play. Obi may need to talk to Ian about conditioning; Ian actually runs the floor well this year and I'd love to see BH get more playing time if he could stay within two to three steps of the guards for put backs on fast breaks; we are lucky if he makes it down the court. I do not want to see OBI in another ballgame where he is handcicapped by the knee and out of shape.
  6. the first 3 minutes Ian or BH if he can get us the tip off JJ DB TL KL the next 8 minutes leave out Bryce- go with the other 5 bring in AD, DP, LM amd full court press for 4-5 mins bring starters back to finish half 2nd half start Bryce if other tean has ball first after 3 minutes bring in the Ian offence and if it is working stay with JJ, DB, TL, KL and Ian Against tall teams I'd play JJ, Ian and Bryce to start and rotate the top 4 guards rotating 2 in and 2 out so they are used to playing with the same partners; VN shows no hustle. I'd bench him. I really like JJ but if he stands around I'd pull him, too. His rebounding is what should keep hum in the game Obi- what is his prognosis for recovery? For getting in good shape?
  7. This was a league game in what you would think would be a hostile pit with seating capacity of only 5300. Air Force overcame a small run a the start and shot 55% from the 3 pt arc and used two forwards and little time from a true center. The starters were 21 of 22 free throw shooters as well. To get to the point: the fan base actually cheered. The student section must have been skiing; there were no more than we get in the Blue Crew section. For on a Saturday afternoon where a $10 ticket got me a corner seat 30 rows from the bottom i have to say we have a better facility at the Savvis. They did have a separate facility for ice hockey under the same roof seating less than 3000 and it doubles as a football practice field when hockey is not in season. So the players did not get the cold floor experience of the Savvis. Strange that hockey on Saturday night was a free ticket with your basketbll stub. They actually had lots of family attendance. Millitary or local there were lots of kids at the game. Maybe in the big city we think we need Saturday night games and maybe that iss the difference in attendance. They are not selling out 5300 capacity. We had no trouble buying ticxkets online day of game. 4000 showed up. For a team with a former NBA assistant coach as head coach and a town Colorado Springs with lots of military suppliers and sorporate headquarters and population of 500,000 they only turned out about 4000 fans. This league has UNLV, New Mexico State, BYU, Utah, Colorado State and some others; they do get an automatic NCAA bid each year. They did make some interesting free concessions for season ticket holders. Because of the possibility of cold weather season ticket holders got a fast lane for parking and a closer parking lot and a closer door to enter the first door from the outside. parking is free for all attendees. The areas of seating where the better seats are were also the only areas that were chosen for game day premiums and tee shirt throws or whatever from the cheer leaders. They did not run promos giving the cheap ticket people a chance to sit up front. Point being if we are going to pay for premium seats and give money for bricks and Billiken Club memberships then we should be treated like that is appreciated-every game. I must admit line of site, the clock, sideline seating are all better at the Savvis and a much smaller arena does not mean feeling more connected to the game unless it the building is conducive to watching the game; concrete walls will give you noise; but hafing a mezzanine walkway at 20 rows is stupid and distracting.
  8. JJ has to do more than shoot the jumper; he has to either screen after he passes or run a curl through the key and pop up lower outside for another chance to get the ball; he can take the other teams 2nd tallest guy or second best rebounder away from the ball as a distraction. Either the coaches don't acquaint him with his second chance opportunities or he loses interest. If you saw him at the end of the season two years ago at Depaul you would not believe the talent that this kid has when inspired. The coach needs to get all the ballplayers out of the doghouse or we will play like whipped dogs.
  9. If the Appelby deal falls through do you think that Laurie will give the Savvis to SLU; he did something big like that for Mi$$ou and they are way over in Columbia. In exchange we could all sign promissory notes saying we promise to leave in time for the center to be cleaned for Blues games; did anyone else notice that when the Blues were not playing the Savvis did not bother to clean between Billiken games?
  10. Bonner was a great college ball player. He could slash and rebound; but who would you take out? Same goes for the greatest Billiken ever, easy Ed Mc Cauley? Ian is our best player and we improve the team; but , he can not make up for the other soft spots. You want a guy with a motor that won't stop? You want a jump shooter? You want a great forward? Go with Bob Ferry.
  11. Obi will have to really work to change his body; What we saw in ezhibition made me nervous ( worried he would get hurt ) as he could only shoot and run off one leg; Does anyone know if he can practise now? The second game he wisely stayed out of the way of play most of the time. TL does that. DP does that. We have quite a few on the team who stay out of the fray. Do you remember when we had non jump shooters like Bonner and Carlos Skinner who concentrated on rebounding, first? . Bonner added the transition steal and break away fast breaks for real thrills. This team has no alley oop or high pass dunk finishes, either. Maybe it will as TL or KL find someone willing to go to the basket without the ball.
  12. listen to them whine before the game; they are complaining about the lack of an inside game maybe a big night for IV
  13. Does Brad's motion offence break down when VN is in or JJ walks away after he passes to go stand near the free trhrow line. JJ seems to reposition himself by his defender instead of blocking out a rebounder or disrupting the zone.; Does VN get a mismatch where he can defeat his defender once we are beyond exhibition games? VN is slower than Luke on defence. BH has more rebounds than Luke in fewer minutes and is third on the team to IV and TL on block shots with 5. In my mind this makes up for the low pass fumbles from guards who are trapped under the trees. BH averages one block every 15 minutes; JJ rebounds and sets screens; Could JJ slash to the basket ? He will never do what IO did for us last year but at 6'8" the opposition's second big clogging the lane cav follw him or stand there and add to the congestion. . BH minutes should not all come at the expense of IV because IV may need yo play 35 minutes and 5 is not enough if we are going to rely on BH in 2 years. Baniak and Heinrich were on the court together.
  14. Driving in a blizzard on two lane highway meant I did not get the close look that you did; I wish I had been there in person; I was rooting for Marquette as former conference mates; I only caught the announcement of the win and the jabber by the home announcers toward the end as I had to switch stations and of course the announcers ended by talking about the refurbishment of the football stadium, anyway...I do appreciate your taking the time to fill in the blanks and that they acquitted themselves better than my impression. Did Novak play better as they closed the gap or did Marquette play against more of the second string?
  15. Not a Guy Phillips fan! Nothing wrong with his technique or voice he just did not bother to know the Billiken players after years of doing the games and mayber announcing that we should all leave as soon as possible so they could clean the arena cast a shadow on him. I remember when they did not bother cleaning because there were no Blues games. Laurie got what comes around.
  16. I listened on radio to the early Nebraska and Marquette game Marquette was never in the game; I was surprised how they were outrebounded and beaten by 25 the whole game; it was as if they did not start hot and just gave up; i kept expecting Novak to save them with 3 point shots but that wasn't happening either. So maybe the Bills will jell as a team, too. But I have to say JJ, IV, and DB were playing like it was their last chance to be starters KL and TL were not in the game offensively. The team played well together for the 11-3 run at the start of the second half but not the other 35 minutes
  17. get your priorities straight; move downtown; we park in a $4 spot leisurely walk to our car after the game; then listen to the after game interview on 590 outside the Savvis and finish listening as we drive 3 minutes or less than 10 blocks home to Lafayette Square. Even closer if you like Soulard. Then we go inside and we are home. Or we can stop at the new Soda Fountain shop across from Sqwires and the new Micro Brewery on Park Avenue. Hardly ever missing a live SLU game, we even get to an occasional soccer or SLU baseball game. We can do pretty much the same thing for plays at Slu; events at the Fox; football without commercials at the dome; walk home from the ball park and even go to the symphony or sit in the leather section at the Moolah movies; no wonder kids are moving to the city
  18. I was at the game: Who cares how far JJ was away from the basket he hit jumpers when open and did not have the stage fright that bothers some kids. IV was getting some sort of medical advice before the game but after it stared the Bonnies did what the last two teams tried to do- hang on him, elbow him, double team him anything to distract him. If AD can not play KL or JJ Has to push these guys away. None of our guards work offf a curl; we had more screens set for shooters in this game and they were ignored. Guards have got to get close to the screen and fire. JJ is necessary to the success of the team; VN had his man score on him, had an unforced error and hit one shot in limited play; the only thing JJ needs to add to his game now is getting over watching his shot; he needs to get back to rebounding; that is his real strength; he is tough under the boards BH can not and probably never will handle an underhanded pass from DP otherwise he did not hurt us; I'd still like to see twin towers just to throw these slim guard dominated teams a curve. TL couldn't find KL in this game and there was no space for TL to slash to the basket that is a good part of his game. JJ does walk away after he passes the ball; how can Brad let these guys stand still that much. I though we were a motion offense.
  19. Slu fan for years; I sit behind the guys who fire up the opposing bench's fans with lots of enthusiasm. Too bad some of this doesn't spill on to the floor. I hope we don't lose these guys when the beer is turned off at the on campus arena. And I wish there was a curtain call buzzer so they could get to their seats in time for the game to start in both halves. If Polk doesn't penetrate and only plays half court ball it must be better in Soderberg's game plan than last year when we couldn't get across the time line or play against the press. I remember Claggett and I loved him but he always had a trailer because he knew his little body was not going to do anything but get broken if he went to the middle. Husak has got to play, especially in games that we are expected to win. Why was he not in Chicago State game? He won't be ready when Ian is out of a game, hurt or graduates if he only practiices with the team. Why not try Husak and Ian at the same time.? Having JJ play second string center instead of forward may be a break for Ian but letting Ian land on the floor 5 times against Chicago was asking for the end of the season injury. They just have to throw the ball over Husak's head if they expect him to catch it. And he has to run down the court with the other players not trail by 40 feet. Why Justin Johnson didn't start every game after Depaul two years ago is beyond me; he has the best body on the floor for the Bills with the exception of the new trimmer Ian. I think Ian may be the best true center we have seen in years. Does Soderberg train the defenders that they can only guard or chase their man two feet beyond the 3 point line? Lisch stopped short a number of times when his guy turned and fired 5 feet out and made it. You would think the player and the coach would agree at half that it is okay to go beyond the perimeter if you have an athlete that can hit from 30 feet. This team will get better and Brad is better this year. last year everyone got along well as a team but they seemed to be taking turns in the doghouse. Is that what happened to Luke last week Luke has a nose for the ball. So do a lot of guys but his speed is just not there. He and AJ need to lose weight or get sprint training. They both hold guys shirts instead of running That's it for now; I've been reluctant to do this before.
