  1. Cobbin had a good jumper until Spoon ruined his ankle making him play on it to be tough for the team-I hope he finally healed
  2. Spoon was a favorite; but let us see how Romar and others stack up against the million dollar man
  3. they beat us by 10 at home and are supposed to be having a tjey they are climbing out of 2nd tier: strong recruitting class even though they gave another kid his LOI release so he could go Juco or someplace else makes you wonder if that was an acceptance problem; his hs was called automotive something sounds like a tech school not college prep DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL 2007-08 SIGNEES NAME POS HT. 4. I believe anytime we played them we played in the TWA dome and the MO-ILL game was in the Savvis in recent history they played two games in St, Louis and TWA was not our home court per se as we played our home games in Savvis-it sold out for the Illinois game no matter who the opponent and Weber being from SIU before would have more reason to play us than go to what he would recognize as a mine pit in Carbondale; Of course once we go to Chaifetz we would have to rationalize staying home before 10,600 or going to the ED Jones Dome for 32,000-I'd say book the big hall and make two payments on the Chaifetz
  5. If you have guards and a small forward who can handle and they get 30 minutes apiece as starters that leaves 30 minutes for a sixth man off the bench-if we are winning that has to be a very attractive offer for any recruit. Our problem in the most current regime of coaches is they played the starters until they were burned out and the next game you might see one of the starters sit on the bench for 35 minutes with no explanation-our coaches had a plan A for every game and no adjustment was made during the game or at half. If our planned match ups worked we won. If not we scratched our heads wondering what went wrong and we blamed on lack of depth
  6. to play SLU in St. Louis-the intensity of the game and fan base matched anything that the MO-ILL games offered and obviously MO has been no match for Illinois the last few years no matter what their ranking prior to the game. And SLU should play them home and home as Assembly Hall is not the home atmosphere that the old Huff gym was
  7. rather play Illinois and other Big Ten schools if we get bangers and our 4's and 5's can stand up to it; I always root for Illinois over Missouri and I live in the city; I expect if RM does turn us around we will get our ticket punched on the E Side. I really thought we played Illinois well inour last meetings
  8. no Larry Hughes effect of "one and done" by the star. RM will put the team in front of finding one star to fill the headlines; Spoon had his moment in the sun but Larry Hughes eclipsed him and from the standpoint of SLU fans Spoon did not have a reason to keep recruiting if finding the perfect recruit meant he was going to leave you in one year. if RM is going to build a dynasty it will be with lots of really good players who put the team first and stay for 4 years; I hope we get Scott Suggs but I think RM may be good enough to give us a cast of players equal to Suggs; players who can at least play with him. The Larry Hughes year we had players waiting for Hughes to take the ball and finish-they did their part when he got the ball-we had guys on the team who could have played better if they were not in awe of LH
  9. SWIC is supposed to be loaded with the best talent ever; his punishment may be a well publicized JUCO program that competes nationally-it did not hurt Stemler who ended up with a scholarship to Indiana for 2 years
  10. or maybe the staff expects someone to not return-that would free up a scholarship wouldn't it?
  11. considering Matt Roth is reported to have hit over 100 three pointers in each of the last two years and 143 last year; they must be different level shooters-is he as good or better than Paul Eckerle? These are just questions-have you seen them all play? If so please make a comparison. Our walk-ons were not good in the past; if you saw the Bobby Knight documentary re: his auditions for walk-ons his first year out of Indiana it made me sad to think we were that far off the pace. Definitely, there will be a cue for walk-ons with Majerus
  12. Kevin Footes transferred from UMKC before it was a D! basketball school anyone know if he was from the KC area' my guess he is the last true KC talent-seemed like he was 6 foot 9 and could dribble the length of the floor for fast breaks; Grawer would immediately bench him for not pasing 3 times like in Hoosiers
  13. wouldn't that be something; I figured if I bought 12 tickets and my friends and family showed up I was supporting the team. Many of them did follow my lead and donate to the Billiken Club now -I am told I can eihter go to the end of the BC line as a group of 12 or drop to eight tickets; I have some friends and family who are going to be disappointed because after I gave $500 to $1500 (in good years for me financially) plus whatever they chipped in (in their own names) not everyone is going to makie the cut. And I am not going to sit in row E any longer I took up their offer for additional seats when I realized the Debbie Yow deal led to lots of corporate sponsors getting tickets down in the middle in front of me and they stopped going to games after the good Spoon years. So SLU had holes where it showed-at least my 12 showed up. If I could get 12 my cost for Gold which is not as good as my best 4 tickets will more than double from Scott Trade to Chaifetz. This year is an increase also but from 2007-8 to 2008-9 will go from about $5400 to almost $11,000 that is simply too much for BB-even if it was NBA quality
  14. neither DM nor AK got a chance to play much same for BH; it took IV going in Brad's doghouse for us to get to see the potential in 4th year -junuior BH and even though I hoped BS would grow into the coach we needed; it was apparent he had a math problem with no answer; how to play more than 5 men on the team-hopefully, with RM we will go -seven to eight deep the first year and 9-10 once he has his own recruits
  15. looking forward to seeing the package; with Debbie Yow I was one of the unfortunate who had worked their way to a few rows behind the Billiken bench only to miss seat selection day-because many of us just were not informed they wanted our seats for celebrities, etc. However, I have been getting 12 tickets a year for a long time-if there is no group plan my family and friends will be fending for themselves. We could be talking about dropping out of the MAC and dropping our Rams tickets or selling them to the next generation in the family. And we still could be short of keeping our row E seats; we used to be 5 rows from the floor and the Blue seats have expanded from one line to two or three-that was okay-the times keep a changing and I feel like me annual contribution to the Billiken Club may have just put me in line for something expensive-may be too expensive
  16. would take the pressure off of suspect 4 and 5 spots-or at least not allow the collapse we saw against IV the last two years; and if we had recruits who pushed TL and KL for playing time what is wrong with that?
  17. V I see this as a movement that is long overdue; playing Coffey and Bennett last year was a sign of frustration on BS part; If we improve from the best to the bench we have to be better abd we lacked shooters at every position; I would like to see us have a half a dozen guys with fresh legs who would put the ball up first chance they get if they can shoot over 40% from the three that is even better; it is inffectious-believing your team is hot happens when you see the ball go in-our assists will go up and our rebounds will go up if we have players who will shoot open or not
  18. I'd rate Brad a 6 as a floor coach and many games I had trouble discerning "plays" and wished someone knew how to set a screen for a shooter; I was won over by LM by season"s end but my original assesment was if he plays 30 to35 minutes we are indeed in trouble; BS simply never got 8-10 players to play in a game and I think it was apparent he could not handle that many players; he looked like he buried guys at the end of the bench and was convinced they could not help against certain opponents. I expect RM to have more players in every game Dustin Maquire and our other shooters would benefit from screens. If RM is the complete coach we should expect more of DM and every player on the floor; practices and games should be fun and quite frankly it was hard work being a Billiken fan since Spoon
  19. can we get a spell checker? This board seems obsessed with spelling and grammar errors.
  20. why would they bother with a psl when a requirement of Billiken Club membership, annually, at certain levels for certain seating locations would be an even bigger money maker; I"d rather have a big stream of income than interest on an untouchable and potenially returnable lump sum
  21.   welcome to an old and venerable basketball town-we hope you take time to meet Easy Ed McCauley who was twice All American for St. Louis University and even the MVP of the NBA-these are some google notes from a Cancer fundraiser in 2006 taken from Greg Marachek's book on the St. Louis Hawks- Mr. Mc Cauley often sits about 20 rows up facing the visitors bench at Bill's games; we bet he'll take keen interest in our newesr center.    "This year’s dinner will feature the incredible “Untold Stories of the St. Louis Hawksâ€. Hear the funny and interesting inside stories of a remarkable time in St. Louis sports history; the era of the NBA’s St. Louis Hawks.  Author Greg Maracek will lead an all star panel including Bob Pettit, Ed McCauley, and other Hawk’s players from that time, delivering a truly amazing history of the former perennial power in the National Basketball Association. Between 1955 and 1968, pro basketball closely rivaled the attention and at times even outstripped the success of baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals. " Welcome to the Brett Thompson era. "Easy" Ed McCauley is the youngest man elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.Â
  22. armchair reporting-they should get out and be season ticket holders or not cover that sport
  23. the other Bowling Green; they are a good fit for the Valley and that would give them another nice bus trip; the Hilltoppers are on the rise in basketball and academics and probably would vie for a top spot as the scholar-athletes of the second tier after Drake, Creighton, and Bradley-they fit right in with MO State, Siuc, and Evansville, etc. They have a good radio station WKBO; I'm sure they have TV and they have a daily newspaper
  24. hate to say spin but holding two scholarships when you can only play 5 players means that if they had six Michael Jordans to recruit in 2008 one of them would sit-I would sure like to see us get a transfer and Harrellson as a walk on
  25. don't understand the VN comparison; the one photo i saw of BE he was at least 16" off the ground with a jump shot-that alone puts him in a different class than VN who never jumped for anything shot or rebound
