  1. I don't believe that he's going to log any minutes next year, unless the Charlotte Bobcats draft him. There was a discussion about how he is overrated on this board a couple months ago. I was able to watch his Illinois semi-final game. He actually seemed to disappear in it. His jumper is flat. He moves really smooth, but I don't think that he can take any NBA contact .. he's only 175 pounds! I think that Josh Smith and Dwight Howard are better prospects. Here is what NBADRAFT.NET says about Shaun: Give him 30 pounds and he can throw out all the hoards of recruiting mail that he's received. David Stern would swim up the Illinois River to personally grab this magician with a ball. He will not blow by you with blinding speed, but his basketball IQ is so high he can maneuver around defenders using his wonderful sleight of hand, deft changes in speed and long and fluid strides. A wonderful athlete he can crash the boards wonderfully from the guard spot. With his great vertical leap and long arms, he will ****** rebounds out of midair only to glide up the court, flowing through defenders to eventually lay the ball into the hands of a teammate for an easy bucket after he's looked off the any defenders. He still needs the aforementioned added size to his slender frame, which is expected to come with time. His outside jump shot is erratic at times and sometimes he is too unselfish to a fault.
  2. 1. the clips can offer the most money to kobe 2. kobe has a huge house in LA 3. kobe does not like shaq 4. C Chris Kaman (who is developing) PF Elton Brand SF Corey Maggete SG Kobe Bryant pg Marko Jaric (and one of these guys to back up marko : telfair, devin harris, Jameer Nelson, or shaun livingstone) sixth man Q. Richardson .. coach dunleavy .. this would not be a bad team .. they might be a contender in 2-3 years if they have kobe .. 5. donald sterling has expressed curiosity .. it is possible .. not saying it's going to happen ..
  3. On PTI, Bill Plashcke (sp?)of the LA Times speculated that we might see a sebastian telfair, kobe bryant backcourt ... on the clippers which might actually work well for telfair .. being paired with someone who "has" to be double teamed ..
  4. I believe that either francisco garcia's brother was shot in telfair's elevator ... or that telfair had a brother killed in their building .. this kid needs that check .. it's more life and death for him than anyone .. he'll get 10 mill from nike to dribble in commercials and promote their street products .. this kid needs to take the dough but, i do agree that when you're 2 months away from graduation .. you might as well finish school ..
  5. he was offered a million dollars when he was 12 from an italian team .. thing is .. freddy wasn't done with school yet, and his mother lives in washington dc .. he finished his schooling right around their draft ..
  6. Do you think he shoots better than Sloan?
  7. i second that notion davidnark
  8. I agree Roy that we'll be okay at the guard spots .. the Bills always seem to find a way .. Personally, I'd like to see PF/C "BEAST" transfer. Then after Tom takes off, you'd be left with the new JUCO, IV, BH .. and the transfer .. if JJ makes a leap in progress than this whole idea is moot. Getting a PF/C transfer for that spot wouldn't offend Tommie either .. do you guys think that Luke Meyer can come in and give us some minutes? you never know what IO is going to do? a consistent Meyer would be helpful!
  9. Can anyone name 3 - 4 wing players that we could possibly be recruiting? I've only heard a lot about the guys we were recruiting at the PF. Curious ..
  10. here .. i'll try and lay it out .. 1. there are many prep schools on the east coast 2. they compete amongst each other for students 3. they have reputations to uphold 4. they play the other prep schools (so they'd probably want to beat the other schools, they even travel over distances to play some of the other schools) 5. if a school continually beats up on another prep school .. it makes them look better 6. if a basketball player can turn the tide and win you a couple extra games, then it may make the school look better, thus, they may get to choose from the best students .. it's the same for college's ... if you're familiar with Desmet, CBC, Vianney, SLUH, and Chaminade .. why do their athletic teams want to beat each other? pride, honor, and to make their school look better .. MCC is almost an "arms" race with soccer players .. By the time I was a senior at SLU, I still would overhear guys ragging each other about battles that took place 5 years ago .. reasons to a prep school 1. the athlete will be in a good school 2. the athlete can get personal attention in the classroom, and not get lost in the shuffle 3. the athlete will get another year to harness their skills 4. the athelte will get another year to expose their skills 5. i don't think you lose college eligibility I have a friend who was a local hockey goalie .. he went to prep school in Maine .. now he's playing D1 hockey .. then again .. he probably had a 1200 SAT, and over a 3.0 .. he went to get recognized and recruited for hockey ..
  11. We're talking students who could have parents that have millions and millions of dollars (sons and daughters of ceo's). We're talking affluent, new england, old money families! something that we don't have much of in the midwest ..
  12. Over the years, a lot of the prep athlete's were receving scholarships. This trend has been thwarted of late by actions taken by the NCAA. That's why Tommie will likely have to pay his own way. In the fifties it was common for teams to return 2-3 seniors on a basketball squad for a 5th year. The same thing happened in football. Essentially you get a 5th year to improve your stock on the field and in the classroom. Prep schools have always recruited athletes in order to maintain the prestige of the institution. The prep schools tend to compete amongst themselves, thus, they are also competing for the same type of students. It's all about money. A lot of kids who attend prep schools, come from mega dough. If you beat everyone athletically, it might aid the recruitment process for good students. Has anyone ever seen School Ties .. if I can remember correctly, that's a film about a jewish boy who is recruited to play quarterback for a prestigious prep school .. it's just that the coaching staff and player have to keep that he's jewish under raps ... am i off base?
  13. When the MCC schools you mention refer to themselves as being prep schools .. it specifically means college preparatory .. meaning "the school will prepare you for college and expects all graduates to go to college" The prep schools tommie is choosing from is probably a much large committment .. when they say prep school .. in the northeast .. it usually refers to a school, equipped with dormitory's , with exclusive academics (like a country day or burroughs), people can go a 5th year .. people used to go to them (in the 40's,50's) in order to ensure that they got into the likes of Yale, Harvard and what not .. the fifth year of work would aid students in getting in They're normally very expensive .. 15,000-25,000 dollars to go to, my father spent time at one .. that's all i know .. someone can add onto this ..
  14. exactly .. end of conversation .. have a nice day ..
  15. i think that slu's program is as clean as it can get in division 1 athletics .. i'm just saying that there isn't a single program that is perfect .. which is how Roy makes us sound .. perhaps i'm a skeptic .. and i get tired of all the "we are the best at everything" .. when i just think we're "good" ..
  16. If a "fraternity" has a "test bank" (which almost all do) .. is that cheating .. or is that "playing the game" ..
  17. DePaul is in a really great part of Chicago. It's a 20 minute walk/2 L Stop away from Wrigleyville, and a 20 minute walk to michigan ave. downtown. It's also in a completely safe and urban area. You can walk anywhere .. and there are close to 200 bars within a mile radius of the university, and the lake (with beach) is a quarter mile walk. I can see how it would be an easier place to recruit. Sorry, but to out of town recruits .. i'd think Chicago would be a cooler place to live than St. Louis. Although, the Cubs suck. I've heard that St. Joe's is in a ###### neighborhood. I think that they more or less "lucked" out with a few players and got their confidence rolling. We should be able to out recruit a team like Marquette, until they change conferences. -rat ps. Yo ROY .. we do give kick backs to our athlete's in the classroom .. do you consider that cheating? .. or when you say cheating .. are you referring to the payment and purchase of players in recruitment? cause I think we're pretty good about that ..
  18. Do you guys think that Dwayne Polk will be a 10 points/5 assists guy next season? How do you guys see him projecting over time? Is he going to have trouble defending big guards? ,Or is his speed so great that other teams will have to adapt to him? Is his penetration the kind that will get Reggie free out on the wing from 3? Is he consistent as an athlete? I've heard he's solid off the court. Can he score amongst the tree's? Just curious,I haven't seen dwayne play since the Jmac and NKern team. And I for sure liked what I saw then.
  19. thanks pout .. yeah, i bet soderberg showed him the palm tree's near the pool ..
  20. I agree. It looks like they're not playing D, but really they are. All you see in NBA highlights are Jason Kidd throwing lobs to Kenyon Martin, Lebron dunking, Carmelo slashing, Kobe nailing crazy shots, Shaq traveling for Dunks, and Steven H. Smith (of ESPN and Philly Enq.) making an ass out of himself. NBA players move so much better than college guys that they make things look so simple on the offensive end. There is D, especially in the playoffs. Also, you couldn't kill yourself every night for an 82 game season and still contend in the playoffs, especially if you had "large" athletes on your team (Shaq, Yao). If they shortened the season to 30, like in college, you'd for sure see a lot more intensity. Scoring is way down in the NBA. Defensive coaches have been invading the league of late. If you want good D, just watch the Pistons, Rockets, Indiana, and San Antonio. This years playoffs are the most interesting in years. If the Cavs had made it in the East .. it'd be even better though. Just in round one: Shaq vs. Yao Ming .. there will be serious effort given there Mavs and Kings (two of the best shooting teams the world has ever seen) Carmelo Nuggets vs the Timberwolves .. can Garnett finally win a series Spurs and Grizzlies (not many people know about this team, but they go 10 deep and play their hearts out under hubie brown) Hey .. and that's just the Western Conference. It's worth following the Pistons and Indiana .. if that series ever comes to fruition. sorry for the NBA promotion opus .. i do love watching the billikens more ..
  21. I agree. I think he's a fantastic player. I just wish he had Jewsbury's size. Then, clearly he'd be even better than he is. Do smallish players succeed in euro ball? You guys know more than I.
  22. I still can't believe this guy left college early to go pro. He can't even coach high school soccer without a degree of some type. Does anyone know if he has taken classes at all since leaving after two years? People take the time to cry about Maurice Clarett wanting to go pro. Clarett is going to make more money than Davis in one NFL season than Davis will make in 5-8 years playing in the MLS. That is, if there is an MLS in 5 years. Oh well, I hope his career swings up. Hopefully he'll become an MLS all star .. and try and sneak onto a world cup team in 8 years or so playing along side the likes of Landon Donovan, Freddy Adu, and Taylor Twellman. Go MCC!
  23. age, creed, and color can never be a part of how a company chooses their employees .... "technically" .. if clarett has the skills needed .. which he does .. then he should be allowed to play in the NFL .. if no one drafts him .. it's his fault ..
