  1. Skip, I was so upset I tore your seat off the floor and threw it. Where will you sit now? Listen up everybody!!!!!!!!!!! We lost this game because of Skip!!! He was not there to keep the refs in check and help them out!
  2. I agree with you. Wish a player would find that fan and beat the hell out of him/her....oh, wait wrong school...
  3. What you saw is what you'll get from Ohanon. He won't get any more aggressive. I was thrilled to see his time limited today.
  4. Whoever was responsible for that should have the same ramifications that the ball thrower had.
  5. No way! But, all questions, statements, and speculations will be answered this year. We'll know what kind of coach Quin is come tournament time. IMO, I think they will go nowhere again. Who knows though, maybe it's their year.
  6. Quin fired? Why would we expect that if Norm Stewart was never fired or taken down for all his crap. I know, what crap, right? One word - naive!
  7. I know of a lot of soccer players that were recruited by football teams like to kick or punt. That doesn't bad mouth soccer, it just shows the games are very different. I think a lot of football people in general make fun of the kickers and punters and it's often done on the Fox pre-game football show on Sundays. You know what though, where would the Rams be this year without Jeff Wilkens?
  8. Aj, I agree that it is a big business. Unfortunately, it's a bigger business at some schools than others. I can't speak to Mizzou as much as I can for SLU. It may have been you that reported all the degrees and programs that Mizzou have as well as SLU. Mizzou being a much larger school has three times as many programs. If you have many programs, chances are there are more easy programs to choose from. So, an athlete has a better chance of picking an easier degree path to take. That's not just at Mizzou, that's at a lot of big schools. When looking at the comparison between ACT scores and all that other stuff, you shoudl think about something. Clearly MU has a lot of programs that are better than SLU and vice-versa. It think the difference between SLU and a lot of big state schools is that out of the number of programs we do offer, they are higher caliber than a lot of the programs that a lot of big state schools offer. So, to put it other words if you were ranking programs on a scale from 1 to 10, a lot of big state schools have programs that are a 1 and also a lot there are 10's. And then of course all the ones in between. They do this so they can accomodate more people. A lot of private schools like SLU don't offer programs that might get a 1 or 2 in the ranking and have consistently more 7's or 8's. Does that make sense? So, in fact, an athlete that is academically challenged can fly their way through schools like MU or a lot of other larger schools. I agree with you though that a degree is better than no degree and a lot of companies higher off of that as long as it's on the resume, then great. I think where is comes back to haunt some people is when expectations are put on them in the working world and they can't meet up to those, because they weren't prepared. Also, off the top of my head, I can think of at least a dozen people who were rejected by SLU and got into Mizzou. Unless it was a very specialized program, I bet you would be hard pressed to find the reversal.
  9. But, then somebody would die. People have had life long paralysis even when the pads are worn. Skip, I bet you that if you or I were hit by Ray Lewis even with our pads on, we wouldn't get right up. But, if you or I were slide tackled or run in to by Alexi Lalas (forgive me if that is spelled wrong and also that I can't name too many players)we'd bounce right up. Then again, soccer is not a contact sport really and football is. Not a shot on soccer, just the way it is. If you talk to high school players who played football and then go on to college, they all say it's a rude awakening and that the hardest hitting guys in high school usually don't compare to the hits in college and then the college guys say the same for the pros. My soccer friends who have played both in college and in the pros never would say that. They would say that the game is completely played at a higher level. You can argue athleticism, stamina, and all that with soccer, but you'd have a hard time arguing pro soccer and pro football, also college soccer with college football in terms of toughness.
  10. MUFAN, you got to agree, that something doesn't add up here. If you look at this kid's academic history and his failure at SLU, it would seem odd that his academic ambition jumped up all of a sudden and he was able to take on the load he did and be successful at it, especially during the summer months. Regardless if it was correspondence classes or not. It would take an incredible amount of time, intelligence, discipline, etc. All of which this kid hasn't shown before.
  11. half of his transcript came this way? I would have to agree with you on this. It is very suspect that this went on and any justification or rationalizing of it is no more than emotions defending their team and their school.
  12. I have to admit, my friends would do the same thing and perhaps worse. They would have approached it differently, but nevertheless, wouldn't hesitate to screw with me. You have to understand, that posting is one-dimensional. I have run into problems before because things are taken the wrong way. There is no body language, there is no voice inflection, there is no history, etc. That being said, I can see it the other way as well.
  13. I can find out for you for sure. I will post on Monday how SLU regards this and handles this.
  14. Wow, that is sad! I guess some people never know how they have it and will eventually learn their lesson. Or, maybe not! Not as long as institutions like Mizzou say, "it's okay".
  15. No, actually YOU "originally" started posting here with a "sophomoric, immature bias against an institution". Am I not correct?
  16. Why would this surprise you, Roy? You know you and I could both go to the Virgin Islands and get our MD in six months and then you would be Dr. Roy.
  17. Why was it postponed???? I thought it was only postponed for lightning and stuff? This was a big game, why would they postpone it? Snow won't hurt anybody.
  18. How any Mizzou fan can sit back and act like no violation or any wrong doing in any of this ever happened is beyond me! As far as some teachers at Mizzou wanting Quin gone - that is probably true. I can see many teachers wanting him gone. More teachers than not care about the education of the students and when educational integrity is in question, they probably have a real problem with that as it now effects their credibility as well, if it happens at the institution where they reside. On the other hand, just because a student couldn't make it at SLU, doesn't mean they can't at Mizzou. I have several friends who couldn't hack it at SLU and went to Mizzou to excel. In terms of the comment about SLU versus Mizzou academically. It has nothing to do with private vs. a state school. There are programs that Mizzou offers SLU does not and there are programs that Mizzou offers that are better than what SLU offers. But, I can GUARANTEE you that overall from one end to the other, SLU is a better academic school and certainly holds it's athletes to higher standards. I think it was David Nark that shamed SLU for not keeping Pulley eligible. I agree with that 100%. If a student can qualify then we should be able to keep them or there is a flaw in the system. That's just my opinion and I know others will shun me for that and tell me that the athlete needs to be accountable, but that only goes so far. If you are offering an athlete a scholarship and a free education, housing, meals, etc - than you damn well better make sure he / she stays academically eligible. We don't hesitate to control these athletes in a lot of ways, so why not this. Yes, I know it will occasionally happen, but that should be a rarity. As far as NCAA sanctions, corrupt crap goes on everywhere and SLU is not immune from that. There are way too many outside resources and influences to control that stuff. So, it comes down to at what level and who was involved with it when it does happen and there should never be smoke surrounding a head coach. I had three very close friends on athletic scholarships at Mizzou and they will tell you today that the program was corrupt then. That was over 10 years ago, so who knows now. I guess we will all find out if any of this stuff holds true. But, just because no sanctions or punishments come from it, doesn't mean things didn't go on.
  19. Oh, everybody lighten up. It's when people get upset and seem uptight that the posts get interesting. We're not debating human life here. It's sports. If people relax it won't cause others to retaliate. The posts will go away without direction from others when things are lighthearted.
  20. Thank goodness, now I can sleep tonight! That really had me on edge wondering and caring who you were!
  21. Another witty comeback! And we thought just the Mizzou athletes were so brilliant!
  22. what did you just write? is that code? Wait a minute, I am figuring it out. Ohhhh, what a great comeback!
  23. Please tell me you're not thumping your chest about your football program? What is it, number 3? Wasn't this just your third winning season out of the past 20 or something like that? It's funny when you Mizzou fans try to bully school's like SLU as your are a laughing stock to rest of the college football nation. Come to think of it though, what have you ever achieved in basketball? Norm Stewart was a god in so many people's eyes, yet what did he ever win? I don't recall one national championship or was there ever even a final four? After all, such a high profile basketball program would certainly have several to talk about. Right? You are a joke to so many big state schools, yet you rarely get cocky with other state schools it's just schools like SLU. Are you really threatened by SLU or feel the need to compete with us? We don't have a football program and we are not a big state school, so what gives? As far as your new Coach, isn't it about time he come out of the closet? I know people in Columbia worship him, although what else is their to worship? After all the tallest buliding in Columbia is on your campus and you boast more oriental massage joints per capita than any other city in America. But hey, give Quinn his due as well. He'll live off Coach K's name for a while, and then before you know it, he'll be out of that inbred, mid-Missouri mecca of filth, and off to greener pastures. In the meantime, you Mizzou fans will continue to dream about the days of raising a National Championship banner to the rafters while all the frat boys scream with their finger in the air taunting other teams that you're number one. Number one in what, who knows? Possibly the most uneducated and criminal thugs to ever play for one baseketball program. Give your golden girl her shot, I'm sorry - I meant Golden Boy. After all, he has one of the most talented teams in the nation and arguably some of the most talented players, but like in traditional Mizzou fashion he will be either at home like the rest of us or in some Columbia watering hole being told what a god he is, while the final four is going on right before his eyes on television.
