  1. Don't underestimate how hard it was for a student to be a fan at Scottrade.....even though the tickets were free. The buses were nasty and inconvenient. Parking was expensive as were the concessions. The convenience of Chaifetz will be a plus, and the pride in "our" building will be amazing...it will transform school spirit. I hope most of those tickets were sold to freshmen, so they can "grow up" with this team. If the cynical upperclassmen want to join the fun, thats fine...but they are not needed to generate the atmosphere we need.
  2. THROW IN THE 10K FOR THE ANGIOPLASTY, ITS NOT SUCH A GOOD DEAL
  3. He played at UCLA and was the Head Strength Coach there before coming to St. Louis for family reasons. From SLU he became a big wheel with Velocity Sports Performance.... Neuhisel lured him back to UCLA when he took over in the spring.
  4. Most A-10 sunday games are TV games
  5. Here's the schedule: http://basketballtournamentsinc.com/Forms/...ic/Schedule.pdf the las vegas part of it will be pretty cool!
  6. I was just amazed that some program does so little homework where they waste a scholarship on this slug. He puts up a big number at a pick-up game against a 6-4 player...after a ridiculous season at Blinn JC! http://www.njcaa.org/schmain.cfm?sid=4&amp...mp;teamid=66014 it says he scored 25 pts in the whole last season!! he had more late night pizzas than he did points.....
  7. a link to what got him an offer: http://www.eteamz.com/HAAY/ Friday, August 1 RECAP UNSIGNED SENIOR & JUCO SHOWCASE! Now we understand how MLB All Star Lance Berkman must feel after striking out, or how probably goes through the mind of NBA trendsetter, LeBron James after a three pointer misses the entire rim. Well, after a string of very successful and boastful productive showcases (spanning over seven years), we finally shot an airball on Thursday. This was easily the worst event we’ve ever assembled. From the organizational staff, to the overall talent level of players which included ten no-shows, to the fact that there wasn’t even a hospitality or concession area provided. Still, there were approximately a dozen college coaches who turned up to evaluate the crop of prospects who played three games without having to set idle for more than an hour. The majority of the participants were more than a year removed from their high school careers. While this event won’t solve the sense of urgency that most of these young men desire to continue their collegiate careers, I’m pretty certain that several hearts will be filled with joy after receiving follow up phone calls (by college coaches) within the next day or so. After all, if just one of these players get a scholarship offer, we consider the reward well worth the risk, which is far less than a tank of gas. ELEVEN (11) PLAYERS WHO SHINED… (5) Obi Ikeakor 6’8 c (Blinn JC 2009) - Averaged 27ppg including an event high 37pts (4 treys). Although his body still isn’t where it needs to be, and he didn’t run the floor as hard as he should’ve, Obi capitalized on his strengths, and was by far the most productive big man in the building. Why is he still available? After signing with University of St Louis in 2005, Obi redshirted to recover from a leg injury. He enters his second season at Blinn JC, and is expected to return to the mid level D1 ranks next season. SOUNDS FAMILIAR....good luck to the Privateers (they'll need it)
  8. I wasn't saying he wasn't serious about winning, but I think he realized that he needed to clean house and he needed to develop the few guys he was going to keep around and if the results were mediocre, it didn't matter. It actually made it easier to justify cleaning house. I absolutely believe he is passionate about winning with HIS guys. I would not be surprised if Kevin and Tommie were featured more this year than last. Everyone else in the A-10 thinks they are outstanding players, we might as well ride them in this their last year. Having them as featured players will also take pressure off the new guys....
  9. Why is the problem about "Tommie"? What about the "system"? This gets back to the discussion about if RM SERIOUSLY cared about winning last year...he would've found ways to get them more involved. A mediocre season sure makes it easier to run off about half of your remaining scholarship kids.
  10. Wichita State Finally Joins the 21st Century Well, maybe they aren’t that far off, but an article in the Wichita Eagle talks about how Koch Arena is finally adding courtside seats for Shocker fans to purchase for a whopping $4260 per seat. The cost for one seat is a $4,000 donation to WSU’s athletic scholarship fund, plus $260 for the price of a season ticket. The seats will be at six of the 10 tables along the court with the middle four tables still reserved for media. There will be 24 courtside seats total. To compare to the Jays, Creighton has 136 courtside seats, but each one is $1,250 — $600 donation, $650 for a season ticket. Of course, I’m sure that the $600 donation is the low end and that there are higher donations with the Jaybackers. The rest of the Valley breaks down like this: Missouri State-With their new arena being built, 48 courtside seats for $5,000 a piece. Drake-12 seats at $1,000 apiece, the person must make a donation of at least $5,000 per year for five straight years to their Champions Club. I’m sure that will go up after their one-year wonder. Southern Illinois-48 seats at $2,500 each. I wouldn’t pay that kind of money in that building. Northern Iowa-44 seats on the floor at the going season-ticket rate of $290 each. However, those were assigned based on the level of giving by the season-ticket holder. If that level of giving drops, the fan is in danger of losing his seat. Very similar to Creighton season-ticket holders and any of the Jaybacker donations for any of the seats. Illinois St.–Have seats that come right up to the court, but they are not sold at a special price Valley schools not mentioned in the article and courtside seats: Bradley–They have seats that come up to the court, but not different from other areas of the arena and of course have their own donation requirements called “Ticket Maintenance” Indiana St–$285 per Season Ticket, $400 Varsity Club Donation per seat. They started their courtside seats last year, but according to their ticket information they also use some courtside seating for Corporate events. 2 courtside seats with complimentary game programs for VIP’s 98 non-priority lower level tickets (100 total tickets) Varsity Club Room access–$750 per game Evansville–Does not have courtside seating according to their ticket information.
  11. Last season's roster...where they are now and if they will be teammates with Hester next year... 0 Hope Elam GONE, NO 3 Theresa Lisch HERE, YES 5 Maggie Hennegan GONE, NO 11 Jackie Gilbert GRAD, NO 12 Hayley Leake GRAD, NO 13 Jameela Haynes HERE, NO 23 Katie Paganelli HERE, YES 30 Heather King HERE, NO 32 Amy Klotz GONE, NO 33 Lauren Woods HERE, YES 55 Amanda Kemezys HERE, YES So assuming no injuries........we have 6 returners that can play this year....the rest are freshmen.
  12. Hester won't be in the lineup until 09-10
  13. Daniel is a coachable athletic kid with decent size for a guard....I bet RM figured he could be a good practice player and he won't use up any eligibility if he doesn't play. Plus...he thinks Kevin is pretty special, so he gets to have his brother as a teammate for his senior season. I would bet that Daniel will be playing at a DII, DIII or NAIA for the 2009-2010 season, and the time spent at SLU will help him be a very productive player at that level.
  14. Here's an old article that gives us some perspective: http://www.youngsaintlouis.com/archive/Feb...ids/sports.html Brad is a devout catholic...I heard that he attended mass nearly every day while at SLU, including when he was on the road trips. He would find a church near the team hotel and go early in the morning.
  15. Maggie Hennegan leaves.... http://slubillikens.cstv.com/sports/w-bask.../072108aaa.html how many talented players stay 4 years in our program?
  16. GEEEZ.....send out your resume if its so bad....
  17. The catholic schools in St. Louis are primarily elitist academies that aren't as good in basketball as they think they are...very different from the catholic school Brad attended and his dad coached at in Stevens Point Wisconsin. When you ask someone that grew up in St. Louis "where they went to high school" you are not looking to find out what color letter jacket they have in their closet.
  18. Do you think BIONDI actually dictated the offices be made smaller? I think most of the SLU facility and design people were responsible for that.....Biondi probably told them the money figure they had to meet. My vote is that if they are getting tight on funds at the end of a project, which always happens everywhere, that they make an office smaller which affects 1 person instead of cutting corners on the practice gym, locker rooms, weight room, training room, etc. which affects all of our athlete and helps with recruiting. Many external observers have said that these parts of our facilities are first class. By the way.....who do we think we are? The way everyone is whining around here makes it look like we are dealing with an institution that has very deep pockets and a long hstory of NCAA appearances. Lets lighten up.... The last of the NCAA basketball money from 2000 went off the books a couple years ago, which has had a big effect on the budget. Up to this year our season ticket holders had no incentive to give extra because we played in a cavernous arena. The reality of raising booster money is tying that money to a high demand product, such as season tickets. Non-revenue sports playing in the main arena is expensive....you have to pay all of the extra people to work and clean up after the event and they all can't be students. There are alot of places were only the Men's Basketball team plays in the main arena. The women needs to win a few games or play alot of local teams, or the main arena at Chaifetz could be pretty empty for their games. I heard through the grapevine that the women scheduled a tad aggressively.
  19. Actually it is pretty typical of team to have this set-up.... Kansas: http://kuathletics.cstv.com/facilities/kan...jsi-center.html Purdue: http://purduesports.cstv.com/facilities/iaf.html At least its air-conditioned.....
  20. I heard the practice facility has seating for 900
  21. Romar lived in West County and his kids went to MICDS
  22. Mid-major assistants do not lead a very glamorous life. They have NO time for their family. Especially compared to the success he at coaching at the high school level....
  23. Its a great place for Brad right now....he will probably like it there and stay for a long time. fyi, Loras's president is married to Brad's sister.
  24. But thanks to Cheryl was conspicuously missing in all the hoopla surrounding Chaifetz..... Anyone with moderately inside scoop knows that this product would not serve the entire athletic department the way it does now if it wasn't for her vision, common sense and drive. Its kind of ironic, that Cheryl had the experience and leadership to get the project on the right track and Majerus had the clout to get the finishing touches at the end. As a Billiken fan, it was the best of the both worlds.
  25. Who could forget the win vs St. Bona at Rochester....DD with 2 late 3's and Sloan seals it at the line http://slubillikens.cstv.com/sports/m-bask.../113002aaa.html
